F4 High School Band Makeover chapter 43-44 part 2

Part 2

Bai Sinian slapped his forehead and grabbed Bian Rui’s wrist again, dragging him across the street. “Bian Rui, I know a place with really good Coconut Chicken. The flavor is light, and the soup is fresh. You’ll definitely like it! We’re eating there tonight!”

Bai Sinian knew Bian Rui’s tastes like the back of his hand. Bian Rui froze for a second. He just hadn’t expected that at a moment for family gathering, Bai Sinian would cater to the tastes of an outsider like him.

“Eh? Bian Rui is here too?” Bai Sinian’s mother rolled down the car window and asked.

“Hello, Auntie.” Bian Rui stood by the car, motionless.

Bai Sinian gave him a shove. “Don’t be a stranger, get in!”

The two sat in the back seat. Bai Sinian’s mother smiled. “Your parents are busy with work, right?”

“Mn.”

“It’s fine, you just eat with us. What do you like to eat? I’ll see if there’s a suitable place.” Bai Sinian’s mother started the engine and slowly drove the car away from the street.

“Mom, let’s go to that Coconut Chicken place at City Plaza. I guarantee he’ll like it.”

“Alright, let’s go!”

The Coconut Chicken restaurant was in a bustling corner of the city center. The decor inside was simple and elegant, with wooden tables and chairs arranged in an orderly fashion, and several paintings rich with tropical flair hung on the walls.

The restaurant was packed. Waiters shuttled between the tables, busy but organized.

They ordered a large pot of the restaurant’s best-selling Durian Coconut Chicken. Bai Sinian mixed the dipping sauce for Bian Rui and served him soup and cured meat claypot rice. His movements were so practiced it didn’t look like the first time he had taken care of him like this.

Bai Sinian’s mother stared at her son’s every move, feeling a bit strange.

Perhaps it was just the first time seeing her son take care of someone else. She didn’t think too much of it.

“Mom, we really have to thank Bian Rui. Living in the same dorm, he always takes care of me. Sometimes when I study too late and fall asleep from exhaustion, he even helps wash my clothes along with his,” Bai Sinian kept praising Bian Rui.

Bian Rui sat on pins and needles, the tips of his ears turning red.

Clearly, it was Bai Sinian who took care of him. Most of the time, Bian Rui was the tired one, and Bai Sinian would toss his dirty clothes into the washing machine along with his own.

He didn’t expect that to leave a good impression on the elder, Bai Sinian would give all the credit to him.

Bai Sinian’s mother finally let go of the strangeness in her heart. So that was it. Since Bian Rui took such good care of her son, it was only right for her son to take care of him during the meal.

“Bian Rui, eat more.” She put several pieces of chicken into Bian Rui’s bowl. “My Sinian has been treated like an emperor by us since he was little. It must be trouble for you to live in the same dorm as him.”

Bian Rui: “…”

Bian Rui’s face felt hot. This made him even more embarrassed. So Bai Sinian was a little emperor at home? Then how did he manage to be so thorough in taking care of others?!

“Thank you, Auntie.” Bian Rui squeezed out a few words.

“Mom, don’t talk nonsense. Emperors are tyrannical and unreasonable; I am polite and considerate. Don’t use random metaphors.” Bai Sinian served rice for his mother as he spoke.

To prevent Bian Rui from feeling awkward, Bai Sinian shifted the topic to studies, talking about many things that happened at school, occasionally tossing a topic to Bian Rui. This way, it became a conversation between two kids, with the mother listening on the side.

Seeing the two children chatting happily, and primarily seeing how happy Bai Sinian was, his mother suggested, “Why doesn’t Bian Rui stay at our house tonight? Since no one is home at your place anyway, you two can go estimate scores together tomorrow.”

“Really?! Mom, you’re the best! Bian Rui, stay at my house!” Bai Sinian’s brain heated up, and he issued the invitation excitedly.

He could see his idol’s handsome face the moment he opened his eyes in the morning again!

Who wouldn’t be dazed by that!

Under the warm invitation of the mother and son across from him, Bian Rui finally nodded.

Bai Sinian was immersed in joy until he returned home and entered the door. Only then did he suddenly realize—the traces of his idol-chasing in his bedroom hadn’t been removed!!

“Wait a sec!” As soon as he entered, Bai Sinian kicked off his shoes so hard they flew. “My room is messy! Let me tidy up!”

Bang!

Bai Sinian locked his bedroom door and jumped around inside. Thankfully, he had printed photos less frequently this year, having thrown himself into his studies.

There were just a few solo photos hanging secretly in the corner of his desk. He shoved them into the bookshelf.

He checked the whole room once. After confirming there were no errors, he opened the door.

Fortunately, his parents didn’t easily enter his room usually, so his privacy was protected.

“It’s quite tidy.” Bian Rui stood at the doorway, looking in.

“That’s because I tidy up fast!”

Bai Sinian’s mother shouted from the other end, “Who’s showering first?”

“Bian Rui first!”

Bai Sinian hurriedly found a set of clean clothes for him, took him to the bathroom, and explained how to use some things.

Back in his room, he lay comfortably on the bed. Phew, so nice. Exams are over, and I can share a bed with my idol.

This time, he absolutely had to take a “bed photo”!

He even wrote down “bed photo” in his phone’s memo.

Bian Rui came out of the bathroom quickly. A man carrying the scent of shower gel had a fatal allure. Bai Sinian sniffed secretly—Bian Rui smelled so good.

“Aren’t you going to wash?” Bian Rui looked at the person lying on the bed with arms spread, legs crossed comfortably.

“Going in a bit. So tired, resting for a while.” Bai Sinian took another secret breath. How could he let go of the fragrant Bian Rui? Smell a bit more before leaving, hehe.

There was nowhere to sit on the bed, so Bian Rui sat at his desk. Randomly flipping through the books on the shelf, he saw a copy of A Global History. Interested, he pulled it out. “I’ve always wanted to read this…”

Suddenly, a photo fell out along with the book. Bian Rui picked up the photo, looked at it, and froze.

Hearing him stop mid-sentence, Bai Sinian made a questioning sound. “Hmm?”

Bian Rui: “You still like Fan Hongyi?”

“What?!”

Bai Sinian sprang up from the bed like a carp, looking in horror at the photo in Bian Rui’s hand. It was exactly the photo he had snapped of Fan Hongyi running during PE class last time.

In the photo, Fan Hongyi was wearing a short-sleeved school uniform. His thick, sturdy arms were full of the masculine flavor of a boy transitioning into a man.

Fan Hongyi in motion had a unique kind of handsomeness.

Bian Rui waved the photo in his hand at Bai Sinian. Bai Sinian turned pale with shock. What kind of luck was this!

Unbelievable!

Last time he was discovered with Cui Yeyi’s photo and couldn’t explain himself. This time he was found with Fan Hongyi’s. How was he supposed to explain?!

Seeing Bai Sinian’s face look unwell, likely thinking he didn’t want his pride hurt, Bian Rui acted understanding. “It’s okay, I won’t tell.”

“No…”

Just as Bai Sinian’s brain was spinning fast, thinking of how to explain, Bian Rui’s phone rang.

“Mom.”

“Okay.”

From answering to hanging up, it took less than five seconds. Bian Rui put away his phone and stood up. “My mom is back. I have to go home.”

“Ah, then you… aren’t staying here?”

Bai Sinian was reluctant. He had looked forward to Bian Rui staying the night, and now it was ruined.

Bian Rui: “Mn. My mom wants me to go over and help her move some things.”

Bai Sinian: “I’ll help you guys.”

“Mn.”

It felt like there were unfinished topics, but after stepping out together, they couldn’t continue them.

They walked along the bridge they had to cross. On the bridge, lights dazzled, echoing the starlight in the sky. In the distance, the riverside buildings appeared indistinct in the night, the lights dim, giving a hazy sense of beauty.

Two long-legged boys walked fast. A few minutes later, they arrived at Bian Rui’s residential complex. Bian Rui led him straight to the underground parking lot.

Zhou Yingzi was leaning against the car door smoking. She wore heavy makeup and a tight black dress covered in glittering sequins. It looked like she had just finished a performance or a banquet.

Seeing Bian Rui and Bai Sinian, she immediately threw down the cigarette butt and ground out the sparks with the sole of her high heel. She flusteredly waved away the smoke in front of her. “Rui Rui.”

“Mom, when did you start smoking?” Bian Rui’s face was solemn as he walked up to his mother, his tone questioning.

Zhou Yingzi looked slightly awkward. “Just occasionally, not often. Sinian, you’re here too!”

“Hello, Auntie.”

Before Bian Rui could say the next sentence, Zhou Yingzi immediately changed the subject. “Sinian, have you had dinner? How did the exam go today?”

Bai Sinian grinned. “Ate already. Had Coconut Chicken with Bian Rui. The exam was okay, estimating scores with him tomorrow.”

“Mom…”

Zhou Yingzi turned and opened the trunk. “Then help me move some things!”

Bai Sinian trotted over. Looking into the trunk, he saw it was stuffed with cardboard boxes. “What is this?”

Zhou Yingzi: “Just my personal items. Just finished recording a seven-day variety show. The schedule is over, so I’ll be resting for a while and living at home.”

“Oh, oh, okay.” Bai Sinian hurriedly went to hug the biggest cardboard box. It was quite heavy; probably skincare and makeup products.

“Bian Rui, hurry and help!” Bai Sinian shouted.

Bian Rui, with a gloomy face, had to shuffle over to help his mom move things, temporarily stopping his questioning about her smoking.

Zhou Yingzi still felt a bit guilty and kept finding topics to chat with Bai Sinian, afraid Bian Rui would scold her.

The three of them took the elevator and moved the boxes home. They had to make two return trips to finish moving everything.

“Rui Rui, pour Sinian a glass of water. Rest a bit. Thank you, Sinian.” Zhou Yingzi instructed with a smile.

She didn’t stay idle for a moment, unpacking boxes, organizing the clothes inside and hanging them in the closet, along with the hairdryer, shower gel, and so on. She was so busy she was almost a blur.

“Here, thanks.”

Bian Rui took a bottle of mineral water from the fridge and handed it to Bai Sinian. Bai Sinian lifted his collar to wipe the sweat from his forehead, inadvertently revealing his flat abs, then sat on the sofa to rest.

Bian Rui glanced at it and sat down next to him.

“Rui Rui, do you want to go anywhere for summer vacation? Mom happens to have time.” Zhou Yingzi’s voice came from the bedroom.

“Not going.”

Zhou Yingzi: “You’ve never traveled with Mom. Don’t you want to try?”

Zhou Yingzi poked her head out of the room. “Or do you want to hang out with your classmates? Sinian, do you want to come along?”

Suddenly cued, Bai Sinian was drinking water and almost choked. “Ah, no no, I… I haven’t planned yet!”

Bian Rui turned his head to look at Bai Sinian. “Do you not have a place you want to go?”

Stared at by Bian Rui’s serious eyes, Bai Sinian became inexplicably nervous. Could he really go on a trip with Bian Rui? That… that would be too exciting!

“I… I heard the scenery in the Northwest is pretty good…” Bai Sinian’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed.

“That works!” Zhou Yingzi returned to the living room to get clothes. “When do you fill out your college applications? Just make sure we’re back before then!”

Bai Sinian: “Applications are in about twenty days.”

Zhou Yingzi stood still holding two pieces of clothing and asked Bian Rui, “By the way, Rui Rui, you’ve never told me what major you want to study?”

Bian Rui didn’t answer immediately. Bai Sinian turned to look at him, also waiting for his answer.

He lowered his eyes and said softly, “Zhoucheng Music Academy, Vocal Performance major.”

The moment the words fell, Zhou Yingzi forcefully threw the clothes in her hands back into the box and shouted sternly, “No!”
