Chapter 42: Unsealing? Part 1
Ning Yunyi watched as the expressions of the two men opposite him, who had been calm and collected just a moment ago, simultaneously changed.
He was in an excellent mood, finding the scene before him quite pleasing to the eye.
Why should Mu Jiayi be allowed to enjoy everything the Zong family brought himâfame, power, and statusâafter he and his accomplice had killed the original host?
Even if he couldn’t eliminate them right now, he could certainly make them turn on each other.
Even if Zong Ling eventually chose to bury the truth for the sake of the alliance between their two families, a “dead” beloved would become a thorn lodged deep in their hearts.
Unable to be pulled out, it would only sink deeper.
Moreover, Ning Yunyi wasn’t entirely wrong; the original host had died, killed on the Garbage Star by Mu Jiayi and Ji Hao’s conspiracy.
Mu Jiayi had no idea that anyone else knew about that incident; otherwise, he never would have dared to provoke this Mr. Bai.
Snapping back to reality, he quickly moved to hang up the call.
Zong Ling, however, pressed down firmly on his hand, his eyes staring straight at the screen. “What did you just say… who died? Who told you to spout such nonsense?”
Ning Yunyi replied calmly, “Nonsense? Whether it’s nonsense or not, I’m sure the fiancĂ© beside you knows perfectly well. Not long ago, didn’t Ji Hao send him a message after completing his orders to kill the Second Young Master of the Ning family? Or perhaps, Mr. Mu… you didn’t receive it?”
Zong Ling didn’t believe it at first. Despite his shock and rage, he felt that a stranger couldn’t possibly know about Ning Yunyi’s situation.
But hearing the name “Ji Hao,” the blood in his veins ran cold, and his fingertips turned icy.
He had told Mu Jiayi many times that he no longer cared about Ning Yunyi, but that was, after all, the first person he had ever loved.
He was as confident when he confessed as he was wretched when he was rejected.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been swayed by Mu Jiayi’s rhetoric time and again.
Did he care about the Ning family? Did he care about Ning Yunyi coming to beg him?
No, he only wanted Ning Yunyi to come see him and regret his initial choice.
But now, this redhead in front of him was telling him… Ning Yunyi was dead?
And that Mu Jiayi had conspired with Ji Hao to kill him?
Mu Jiayi suppressed the unease in his heart as quickly as possible. He feigned anger and looked at the person on the screen. “Mr. Bai, I don’t know where you heard these specious rumors to destroy our relationship as a couple. Or perhaps, you’re doing this on purpose? Trying to ruin this marriage at such a critical juncture? Who sent you?”
These words were meant more for Zong Ling’s ears.
Subtext: Don’t believe him. He’s sent by the Zong family’s enemies specifically to ruin the alliance between our two families and destroy our good reputation.
Zong Ling barely listened, but he didn’t fully trust Mu Jiayi’s words either. He continued to stare at Ning Yunyi. “What evidence do you have for saying this? How do I know this isn’t just your one-sided story?”
Since Ning Yunyi spoke this way, he naturally didn’t have physical evidence on hand; otherwise, he would have stormed the Mu family already.
But while he didn’t have it, Mu Jiayi certainly did.
Ning Yunyi smiled. “Speaking of which, I just happen to be the type who can’t stand seeing bad people go unpunished. As for who I heard this from… outsiders naturally wouldn’t know. Such a secretive matter, the parties involved would hide it at all costs. The reason I know… is because Ji Hao told me.”
Mu Jiayi’s eyes lit up, and he immediately retorted, “You’re lying! Ji Hao rescued Second Young Master Ning months ago. If he really conspired with me to kill him, why would he reveal such secret matters to a stranger for no reason?”
He grew more agitated as he spoke. He realized that this person was merely guessing and didn’t know the details; he was just bluffing.
How could Ji Hao tell an outsider about such things? Did he have a death wish?
Ning Yunyi, however, laughed softly. “Under normal circumstances, Ji Hao naturally wouldn’t. But what if… I accidentally saved him when he was on the brink of death?”
Ning Yunyi looked at the two stunned men and spun a tale that was half-truth and half-lie, making it sound incredibly convincing. “At the time, he was in a miserable state. I kindly saved him when he had only one breath left. Perhaps out of guilt or regret, or fear of dying on a strange planet without an identity or ID, he revealed his identity and his purpose for being thereâand, of course, his regrets.”
“He said the biggest regret of his life was harming his childhood friend. To cling to a noble family, he followed someone’s promise, feigned a rescue, and took his friend away to the Garbage Star. Once he gained his friend’s trust, he swindled all the star coins in his friend’s accountâa total of ten thousandâand bribed a local thug leader to force his friend to become that man’s lover. In the end… naturally, he completely killed him.”
“He thought completing the mission would ensure his survival, but who knew that the mastermind never intended for him to return to the First Star? He was tricked into spending millions of star coins to buy a 3S-level energy crystal, only to have the crystal snatched and his wristband stolen. He managed to escape to Planet C, but he was still dying.”
“He said this might be karma. He asked me to remember that his name was Ji Hao, from the Ji family of the First Star. And the childhood friend he killed was the Second Young Master of the Ning family, Ning Yunyi. And the one who made him kill Ning Yunyi… was none other than Mr. Mu.”
“Mr. Mu, why is your expression so ugly? You’re not going to say I’m lying again, are you? If Mr. Zong doesn’t believe it, you can check your fiancĂ©’s account transfers. Wasn’t there an incoming transfer of ten thousand star coins a while ago? And wasn’t there soon an outgoing transfer of several million? And wasn’t the other party in these transfers… Ji Hao?”
Zong Ling believed it completely. A stranger couldn’t possibly know so much detail.
Unless the person involved told him.
Zong Ling’s eyes turned cold and deep as he stared deathly at Mu Jiayi, clenching his back teeth. “Why?”
Mu Jiayi felt a chill run through his body. He hadn’t expected Ji Hao to be dead.
No wonder the man disappeared after the energy crystal incident; he thought Ji Hao had run off with his crystal.
Who knew… he was dead?
And he even thought Mu Jiayi had hired someone to kill him? And thus, before dying, he deliberately told this Mr. Bai about their affairs?
That idiot! It was fine if he died, but why did he have to bury such a huge landmine for him!
Mu Jiayi was frightened by Zong Ling’s murderous look. “I-I can explain. I did transfer money to him, but it really had nothing to do with Second Young Master Ning’s death.”
He didn’t want to admit it, but if Zong Ling insisted on checking his wristband, the past records would be found instantly.
It was better to admit half and deny half.
Zong Ling didn’t buy it, gritting his teeth. “And aside from that? Did Ji Hao transfer ten thousand star coins to you? Was that Ning Yunyi’s money?”
Ning Yunyi fanned the flames from the screen. “Exactly, Mr. Mu, your heart is too vicious. You didn’t have any grudge against him, did you? I checked after arriving at the First Star these past few days, and you two didn’t have any connection, right? Yet, you had him swindled of all his money on a place like the Garbage Star. Without spiritual power, plus his good looks, that fate… You didn’t just want him dead; you wanted him to suffer a fate worse than death.”
“Shut up!” Mu Jiayi was thoroughly enraged. Gritting his teeth, he looked at Zong Ling, planning to deny everything to the death. “I know Ji Hao, but I really never thought of harming Ning Yunyi… Why would I harm him? I have no grievances with him.”
In his anger, Zong Ling roared in a low voice, “Because I liked him! Because you were jealous of him! If it weren’t for…”
