Chapter 118: Making Acquaintance
Gu Wanrong accepted Liu Xiu’s meeting gift, then handed the return gift prepared by Butler Liu to Liu Xiu as well.
Then, Yu Yingying and Liu Ji enthusiastically and excitedly introduced everyone in the private room one by one.
From the Xie family, only Xie Xian and Yu Yingying came; Gu Wanrong knew them both and didn’t need a special introduction. The one who didn’t come was Xie Ying, Yu Yingying’s biological brother, the eldest child of this generation in the Xie family, who was still in the army and couldn’t come out.
There were only two people from the Su family in this generation. One was Su Min’an, whom Gu Wanrong had known early on. The other was Su Huaijing, who was even younger than Gu Wanrong and Yu Yingying, currently a sophomore in high school.
The Liu family was the same as the Xie family; the youngest two, Liu Xiu and Liu Ji, came. They also had two older brothers, Liu Ji (different character) and Liu Bing. One stayed in the laboratory losing track of time, and the other was stationed abroad, waiting for a promotion opportunity to return and be stationed in China.
The Yan, Zhong, and Yu families each had only one child: Yan Shen, Zhong Wenyi, and Yu Wenjin, and they all came today.
When Gu Wanrong handed the return gift to Zhong Wenyi, he smiled sweetly.
“Sister Gu, can I call you that? You are really beautiful.” Zhong Wenyi, like Su Huaijing, was still a high school sophomore, and his mouth was quite sweet for his young age.
“Me too, me too, Sister Gu.” Su Huaijing was right beside him and hurriedly chimed in, as if afraid of being left out.
Zhong Wenyi held the gift box in one hand and nudged Su Huaijing’s lower abdomen with his other empty elbow, muttering, “Copying me again, take my elbow strike.”
Su Huaijing smiled and didn’t show weakness, countering nimbly.
The two immediately started play-fighting. It was obvious that the two boys of the same age were very close friends.
From the Li family came Li Du. His sister, Li She, was the eldest of this generation. Her ambition since childhood was to become a woman like Yu Yingying’s mother, Xie Xun. Now she had become the first secretary beside Xie Xun, so naturally, she didn’t have time to attend today’s gathering.
The Song and Zhou families each had one person come, Song Bingqing and Zhou Yinci. They had quite a few brothers and sisters, but they didn’t introduce their absent siblings like the others did. Gu Wanrong understood immediately and didn’t press further.
Although not everyone arrived, those absent still entrusted their siblings to bring meeting gifts.
Gu Wanrong returned gifts one by one, not leaving out the few she already knew, giving each person a gift as well.
It had to be said, none of the members of these top families had ordinary looks; both their appearance and temperament were first-class. In this first meeting, other things couldn’t be seen, but just this point made Gu Wanrong sigh secretly.
How to put it? The existence of these people seemed to prove what innate superiority meant. Although everyone in the private room dressed quite low-key, placing them in a crowd would immediately highlight the gap between them and ordinary people.
After her rebirth, Gu Wanrong’s horizons had broadened day by day. Naturally, she could see the value beneath their low profile—custom-made clothes, rare jewelry…
Fortunately, she had dressed up specifically. It wasn’t too formal, but it didn’t appear casual or rude either.
It was just that she preferred bright colors, seemingly different from Liu Xiu, Song Bingqing, and Zhou Yinci. Although they each had their preferences, they all leaned more towards choosing low-saturation colors.
Gu Wanrong noticed this.
However, standing here now, she wouldn’t feel inferior.
As for their respective attitudes toward her, Gu Wanrong didn’t care. She wasn’t a banknote loved by everyone, let alone the existence of people who viewed money as dirt.
For those who sincerely wanted to be friends with her, she would maintain a sincere heart toward them. As for those who perfunctorily dealt with her, she wouldn’t take it to heart and just wouldn’t interact with them in the future.
After everyone had met each other, they scattered to sit down, chatting and playing separately.
Liu Ji didn’t want to catch his sister Liu Xiu’s eye, so he sat next to Gu Wanrong. Thinking that Gu Wanrong had helped Liu Ji a lot, Liu Xiu also sat near Gu Wanrong, and Yan Shen naturally followed his wife.
Yu Yingying and Gu Wanrong were already close, and Xie Xian harbored his own little thoughts, so both of them occupied the positions on Gu Wanrong’s left and right.
Su Huaijing and Zhong Wenyi were just two kids. Having been led by Yu Yingying to cause trouble since childhood, they were practically three siblings from different parents.
Although Gu Wanrong felt Li Du lacked sincerity, for some unknown reason, he also sat next to Su Min’an, closer to them.
As for Song Bingqing and Zhou Yinci, seeing everyone gathered together, they also sat on the periphery, appearing neither unsociable nor involved.
Gu Wanrong took a look; although they were said to be playing separately, they actually gathered in a pile, chatting and playing.
“Brother Yan Shen, did you meet Sister Gu at the auction?” Su Huaijing, who was playing with Zhong Wenyi, suddenly leaned his head close, his eyes flashing with curiosity, and asked.
“En, yes. I happened to see Gu Wanrong when the auction ended, so we came together,” Yan Shen answered while holding a fork, gently picking up a strawberry and feeding it to Liu Xiu’s lips.
Getting the answer, Su Huaijing and Zhong Wenyi looked at each other, then turned their heads together to look at Liu Ji, bursting into laughter.
“What are you looking at me for?” Liu Ji was confused by their gaze and laughter. “You guys are smiling so weirdly.”
Yu Yingying rolled her eyes and immediately understood the reason. She leaned close to Gu Wanrong’s ear and said, “Didn’t Liu Ji say in the group earlier that he wanted to be the first person to see you today? He endured the cold and hunger outside acting as a stone lion, but Brother Yan Shen beat him to it.”
Although she said it in Gu Wanrong’s ear, everyone was sitting close, so everyone heard her words clearly.
Liu Ji was naturally no exception. However, he had always been thick-skinned. He didn’t care about everyone’s ridicule at all and even laughed along with them.
Everyone chatted happily, and people who were unfamiliar before gradually became familiar.
Gu Wanrong spoke more than usual tonight, much more than usual, and her mouth was dry. Just as she was looking for water to drink, a glass of water appeared by her hand.
She looked in the direction the water came from and found it was handed over by Xie Xian.
“Drink,” Xie Xian shook the glass slightly in front of Gu Wanrong’s eyes, indicating that this glass of water was specifically for her.
Gu Wanrong said thank you and took the glass. The warmth from Xie Xian’s fingers still remained on the cup wall. Gu Wanrong moved her fingers up a bit to avoid it; the cup was warm.
She drank a few mouthfuls slowly, looking at Xie Xian with a smile in her eyes.
Their natural interaction didn’t attract too much attention in the atmospheric private room. Even if seen, it would be casually forgotten.
Instead, Li Du, whose attitude towards Gu Wanrong had been perfunctory from the beginning, took all this into his eyes and began to slowly pay attention to the interaction between Gu Wanrong and Xie Xian.
