You Claimed You Didn’t Love Me, So Why Cry Now That I’m Engaged? Chapter 51

Chapter 51: Can You Take Me In?

“Didn’t you say you only wanted to be responsible for him?” Chen Zirui stared at his side profile, probing cautiously. “I think financial aid is quite good. The relationship stays clean, there’s no excessive entanglement, and it’ll be easier to cut ties later.”

Gu Huaiye remained silent, his long eyelashes concealing the emotions in his eyes, his thoughts unreadable.

“Unless…” Chen Zirui paused. “Unless you never planned to cut ties with him cleanly. The longer this drags on, the deeper you’ll fall.”

Gu Huaiye finally spoke, “I won’t fall for him.”

Chen Zirui didn’t believe him for a second. “If you didn’t care, how could you be willing to offend my dad for him? Brother Gu, you really need to wake up. I’m not saying this for my brother’s sake. Even if you don’t marry my brother in the end and choose another Omega with high compatibility, I would still give you my blessings.”

Gu Huaiye knew Chen Zirui was sincere.

In his previous life, despite the ugly falling out with the Chen family, Chen Zirui still came to his wedding and even served as his best man.

Rumor had it that after returning home, Chen Zirui got beaten up by Father Chen for it.

As a friend, Chen Zirui was truly loyal.

“I know. I’ll consider your suggestion.” Gu Huaiye recalled how, in his past life, Chen Zirui had emptied his pockets to pay for his hospitalization fees. His heart warmed, and he smiled at Chen Zirui. “Thanks.”

Staring at that smile, Chen Zirui suddenly felt a bit embarrassed and raised a hand to rub his nose.

“Well, you’re my friend.”

After parting ways with Chen Zirui, Gu Huaiye returned to the dorm to pack his luggage.

For the winter break, he planned to rent an apartment near the company.

There was a transnational cooperation project that his Little Uncle, Gu Yuannian, was responsible for.

After being reborn, many grievances had dissipated.

He was working alongside Gu Yuannian. Although Gu Yuannian was a bit too ambitious, he did possess some working capability, and Gu Huaiye could still learn a lot from him.

seeing his nephew join in, Gu Yuannian didn’t show any rejection; instead, he sincerely taught Gu Huaiye everything he knew.

Gu Huaiye reflected that if it weren’t for Xie Miaohan’s instigation in the past life, Gu Yuannian wouldn’t have entertained thoughts of buying shares or dumping all the money into that garbage project.

In the end, the main problem still lay with Xie Miaohan.

Gu Huaiye thought of Chen Zirui’s suggestion again.

Dragging his suitcase out of the school dormitory, he looked up and saw Xie Miaohan.

His footsteps paused, and a sudden urge to flee rose in his heart.

Xie Miaohan strode towards him, his voice sounding aggrieved. “You’ve been avoiding me for days. Did I make you unhappy again?”

To be honest, Gu Huaiye still couldn’t quite adapt to this version of Xie Miaohan.

In his memory, Xie Miaohan was always cold and distant, stingy with even a single smile.

After rebirth, however, he frequently saw Xie Miaohan’s softer side.

If he weren’t so familiar with Xie Miaohan, he might have truly fallen into this false trap of tenderness.

“I’ve been busy with exams recently; I didn’t have time to contact you.” Gu Huaiye feigned indifference. “Didn’t we agree that you could only appear in front of me when I contacted you?”

“But I missed you too much,” Xie Miaohan said. “Missed you to the point of going crazy.”

Gu Huaiye’s heart skipped a beat.

So Xie Miaohan could express his feelings this directly.

Did he need money?

Gu Huaiye dug his fingernails into his palm; the pain sobered him up a little.

“Now that you’ve seen me, I can go, right?”

He intended to leave directly, but Xie Miaohan suddenly took his hand and rubbed the palm marked with nail indentations.

“Why are you so hard on yourself? Doesn’t it hurt?” Xie Miaohan spread Gu Huaiye’s hand open and blew gently on the palm. ” did you miss me too? Why pretend not to care about me?”

Gu Huaiye frowned and tried to pull his hand back, but his strength was no match for Xie Miaohan’s, and he couldn’t pull it free at all.

“Let go.”

Xie Miaohan held on tighter, took a chain out of his pocket, and put it on Gu Huaiye’s wrist.

Gu Huaiye froze, staring at the gold bracelet with a complex expression.

“This is a gift from me. I bought it with the money you gave me for financial aid earlier, to celebrate us spending half a month together safely.” Xie Miaohan’s eyes were gentle. “Now you’re tied to me; you have to support me for a lifetime.”

This wasn’t just a simple bracelet.

It was a keepsake from Xie Miaohan’s mother.

In his previous life, when they got married, Gu Huaiye saw this chain in a drawer. He wanted to try it on, but Xie Miaohan lost his temper, forced him to take it off, and coldly warned him never to touch it again.

Gu Huaiye had assumed it was a gift from one of Xie Miaohan’s exes. His face had turned dark immediately, and he dragged Xie Miaohan to bed, f*cking him until he trembled all over and shed tears, unable to bear it.

That was followed by a month-long cold war, until he stayed out for a week straight, partying wildly.

Xie Miaohan came to catch him with red eyes. When Gu Huaiye refused to go back, Xie Miaohan finally told him the origin of the bracelet.

It was the only relic he had related to his parents.

Hearing that, Gu Huaiye had felt incredibly remorseful and obediently went home with him.

But now… why was such an important item given to him so casually?

“I don’t want it.”

Gu Huaiye immediately tried to take it off, but Xie Miaohan held his hand down.

“I gave it to you, so it’s yours. If you really don’t want it, just throw it away.”

“How can you be so casual…” Gu Huaiye was a bit angry. “This is your…”

He stopped abruptly halfway through.

He almost slipped up.

Xie Miaohan didn’t pursue the unfinished sentence, his gentle eyes almost drowning Gu Huaiye.

“Can you see my sincerity now? I want to be with you a little longer.”

Gu Huaiye felt stifled.

He had wanted to propose switching to a financial aid relationship, but at this moment, he couldn’t get the words out.

“I’m going back now.” Gu Huaiye chose to escape.

“I’ll send you.”

“No need, my driver is already waiting at the gate.”

Xie Miaohan looked regretful. “Alright then. Have a pleasant holiday.”

Gu Huaiye dragged his suitcase and left hurriedly, as if a beast were chasing him.

Once in the car, he stroked the gold chain on his wrist, his heart filled with mixed flavors.

“I really understand you less and less,” Gu Huaiye murmured.

A week later, Gu Huaiye moved into the new apartment and started a routine life between home and the office.

On this day, heavy snow was falling outside. Traffic was inconvenient, so Gu Huaiye chose to work from home.

The phone on the table suddenly vibrated.

Thinking it was his Little Uncle, he answered without looking.

“Hello?”

The wind on the other end was loud, making it hard to hear clearly.

Gu Huaiye frowned, looked at the screen, and saw Xie Miaohan’s name.

“Is it Xie Miaohan? What’s wrong?”

“I’m downstairs at your apartment. Can you come down and pick me up?” Xie Miaohan’s voice trembled slightly. “I have nowhere else to go.”

Gu Huaiye stood up immediately and walked to the window to look down.

In the vast expanse of white snow, Xie Miaohan’s figure looked tiny and lifeless, as if he could be buried by the drifting snow at any moment, erasing any trace of his existence.

Gu Huaiye’s heart twitched with pain. He immediately threw on an overcoat.

When he reached the door, he turned back, took the warmest jacket from the walk-in closet, and rushed out of the apartment.

Arriving at the main gate, he saw Xie Miaohan squatting on the ground, his face terrifyingly pale. Anger surged out of nowhere.

“Are you an idiot? Couldn’t you find a warmer place to wait for me?”

While scolding, Gu Huaiye draped the jacket over Xie Miaohan.

Xie Miaohan stood up, hugged Gu Huaiye’s waist, and buried his face in his neck.

A chill hit him, and Gu Huaiye couldn’t help but shiver.

“You’re so warm.” Xie Miaohan whispered, “I have nowhere to go. Can you take me in?”

  1. I don’t know what to feel. Gong and Shou are garbage, but they’re a garbage couple that fits together well. I can’t feel sorry for either of them.
