Chapter 9: Meeting Again
The next day, Shen Yanjin woke up early and went to the hospital.
Listening over the phone, the doctor’s voice was clear and moist, his tone very gentle. So when Shen Yanjin saw the burly, towering man in the consultation room, he didn’t react for a long time.
He tentatively called out: “Dr. Li?”
The big man looked over, smiled and nodded, opening his mouth to speak with a voice exactly like on the phone: “Hello, you must be Mr. Shen who made an appointment yesterday.”
Alright.
As Shen Yanjin sat down, his mind was still wandering: No wonder they say not to date online; the gap between real person and voice is simply too big.
The doctor introduced by Yue Fengling was indeed very skilled. Running around the hospital for several tests, after they finished, Dr. Li held up the newly developed film to observe for a while and said: “Need surgery.”
Shen Yanjin was startled: “Surgery?”
When he went to the hospital last year, the examination result was just physical therapy. He didn’t expect it to have developed to surgery now.
Dr. Li frowned and said: “Your wrist condition is very serious; it has been inflamed inside for a long time. You…” He seemed to want to say don’t you feel pain, but glancing at Shen Yanjin, it changed to, “Have you not been to a hospital?”
Shen Yanjin sighed and told the truth: “I went, but that doctor told me to go for physical therapy for two hours every day. I didn’t have time back then, so…” He scratched his hair. “Doctor, if this surgery is done, what is the success rate, and will there be sequelae? Money is not a problem, just say it.”
Dr. Li looked at him: “I know you pro players don’t lack money. But this isn’t a matter of money. This inflammation has existed in your wrist for too long. A minor illness has been dragged into a major one.”
Saying this, he dug out a folder from the desk drawer and flipped through a few pages of documents: “This surgery, I’ll be honest with you, the success rate is very low. But if rehabilitation is proactive, there won’t be any sequelae.”
Shen Yanjin said: “If it fails?”
Dr. Li said: “If it fails, it won’t result in your right hand being unusable or anything, but things requiring micro-control like piano, painting, and esports will be impossible.”
He handed those few pages of documents to Shen Yanjin: “This isn’t a small matter. Go back and discuss it properly with your family.”
Shen Yanjin’s face stiffened, quickly returning to normal. He took the documents: “Okay.”
Dr. Li taught him a few hand exercises and massage tips to relieve fatigue, then let him go home to consider it properly.
Walking out the hospital gate, Shen Yanjin looked at the busy traffic on the street, looking up at the glittering high-rise buildings around him, and couldn’t help feeling a bit lost.
Gamble?
But he couldn’t afford to lose.
At this moment, Shen Yanjin sincerely wanted to confide in someone.
But if it were a small matter, it would be fine. This was an important choice concerning the rest of his life. Who could he tell about such a thing?
Thinking of the “family” Dr. Li mentioned just now, he rubbed his face and smiled bitterly.
Taking a taxi home, Shen Yanjin did the hand exercises twice according to the method taught by the doctor, feeling that the pressure on his wrist had indeed lessened quite a bit.
Although the doctor’s orders were to use his wrist less, he was idle all noon and really bored, so he opened the WL client again.
As everyone knew, solo queuing required courage, and low-ELO solo queuing required even more courage.
Shen Yanjin’s account was muddling along in the Diamond tier. In this tier, neither high nor low, there were those who could play and those who couldn’t. It could be said that ranking up depended more on luck than mechanics.
Entering the game, Shen Yanjin insta-picked Faerie Cat, emphasizing the word “leech.”
This character’s gameplay was very simple: choose a teammate to guard and follow, providing shields and healing, and casting slow/charm skills. However, having no displacement or damage reduction herself, and being very squishy, once she lost her teammate, she was a sitting duck.
But as the most popular support character among female players for several years, Faerie Cat had an advantage that other characters couldn’t compare with.
That was, during the process of guarding other players, Faerie Cat would automatically attach to that character, no longer requiring the player to perform any movement, completely freeing their hands.
Could eat snacks, could watch dramas. If lucky, and the guarded player was strong, one could win without doing anything this match.
AFK without receiving an AFK warning, super refreshing.
Although Shen Yanjin hadn’t muddled to that extent, if he wanted to slack off, he really slacked off.
However, fate seemed to favor Shen Yanjin exceptionally lately.
Just entering the map, he saw a teammate typing in the chat box.
[One Thought Killing Severed (Ascetic Monk): Holy sh*t, the enemy jungler ID is the National Server No. 1 Jungler!]
[Wuwu QAQ (Blue): So what, I’m still National Server No. 1 Mid Laner.]
[One Thought Killing Severed (Ascetic Monk): ? No.]
[One Thought Killing Severed (Ascetic Monk): He really is the National Server No. 1 Jungler.]
[One Thought Killing Severed (Ascetic Monk): This is Moon God’s smurf.]
Shen Yanjin’s brain went blank. He stared at the chat box for a long time before belatedly processing the meaning of these sentences.
Trance-like, he controlled the Faerie Cat to buy the starting support item, jumped into the ADC’s arms to start AFKing, while he tabbed out to open RedMoon’s player details page.
Scrolling twice, sure enough, the ID “National Server No. 1 Jungler” hung below a string of Duan Mingyue’s smurf accounts, with a green circle on the side indicating this account was currently in-game.
Shen Yanjin’s mood instantly became incredibly complex.
Both being pro players, meeting Duan Mingyue wasn’t actually anything rare.
But this time was different from before.
He was currently not using the ID Sliver, but UOOW.
The support “Missy” who had just hit the trending topics with Duan Mingyue and made Moon God “break his vow.”
Shen Yanjin didn’t quite know what to do. Fortunately, Duan Mingyue was playing Jungle this game, not in the same lane, so the chance of meeting was greatly reduced, which relieved his awkward mood at the moment.
However, this gladness didn’t last more than three minutes.
Three minutes later, Shen Yanjin looked at the jungler Blade Master leaping out from his own jungle bush, and didn’t react for a moment.
His hands were faster than his brain. Long-term awareness and habit made him shield the AD the instant he saw the Blade Master, throwing a slow back at the Blade Master to ensure his AD could retreat safely under the tower.
Who knew that while he was fast, Duan Mingyue was faster.
Almost the instant the slow skill was thrown, the Blade Master raised his blade, blocking it lightly with the back of the blade, then with a light leap, slashed straight over.
Shen Yanjin originally wanted to struggle a bit, but looking at the minimap, the enemy support appeared in the bush Duan Mingyue had just flashed out of.
No need to think now; he sold his teammate very decisively.
With a meow, the little kitty jumped from the AD’s arms to the ground and ran without looking back.
The Blade Master raised his hand and the blade fell. The AD turned gray—First Blood.
Shen Yanjin hid in the bush behind the tier 2 tower, his mood a bit complex for a moment.
At this timing, Duan Mingyue obviously came to bot lane right after clearing Red and Blue buff.
What kind of deep hatred was this? Was it because of the previous matter?
The little kitty squatting in the bush licked its paws. When the AD respawned, it leisurely climbed onto his shoulder again.
Who knew Duan Mingyue didn’t leave at all, bringing his support with him.
Just returning to the lane in bot, the Blade Master slashed over again. With the support’s control, Shen Yanjin couldn’t save the situation and could only watch the AD fall to the ground again.
Just when he thought he was going to feed here too, the Blade Master unhurriedly wiped his blade and actually turned to leave.
Not killing him?
Why?
Shen Yanjin froze for quite a while before belatedly pressing the recall key.
By the time Duan Mingyue appeared in the bot lane with his support for the third time, he was already a bit numb.
Their jungler was beaten by the enemy’s jungle-support roam strat to the point where he could barely enter his own jungle. He was even more fragile than the bot lane right now and couldn’t be counted on at all.
Watching the AD turn gray again, Shen Yanjin thought about it and wisely changed his guarded target.
He really couldn’t protect this one anymore.
So crossing the jungle, he jumped into the Mid Laner’s arms.
Surprisingly, once Shen Yanjin left, the bot lane instantly returned to peace. Neither support was in the bot lane, and the two ADs farmed against each other, surprisingly harmonious.
Shen Yanjin looked at the minimap, sensing something wrong.
His intuition was always accurate for bad things. The instant the system announced the dragon was taken by the enemy, the mid-lane bush moved, and the Blade Master calmly jumped out.
Duan Mingyue was very fat now, the daddy of the whole field. Having eaten several heads and four jungle quadrants, his equipment led everyone by a full two major items. At this point in time, he was no different from a monster.
Jumping out, one slash, and the Mid Laner’s health almost bottomed out.
This was even with Shen Yanjin already giving a shield.
Shen Yanjin didn’t dare to delay, hurriedly healing once, covering the Mid Laner’s retreat under the tower.
The Mid Laner, having narrowly escaped, gasped for breath. The first sentence he spoke was—
[Wuwu QAQ (Blue): Sister, please don’t follow me, I can’t handle Moon God’s favor.]
Shen Yanjin refused to believe in heresy, turning his head and running to the top lane.
Sure enough, this time Duan Mingyue also followed to the top lane.
[One Thought Killing Severed (Ascetic Monk): The feng shui in top lane is bad, really, you go.]
Bot lane also quickly stated their position.
[Fish Fish Fish (Thorn): I’m living very well alone, don’t miss me.]
Fine.
Being treated as a plague god, Shen Yanjin was both angry and amused.
He silently recalled.
The jungler, who had been caught miserably since the start, suddenly asked a question at this time.
[whyyyyy (Soul Reaper): This support and Moon God are duo-queueing, right?]
Shen Yanjin reacted for a while before realizing this “support” didn’t refer to him, but the support player on the opposite side who had been inseparable from Duan Mingyue.
Since no one wanted him anyway, Shen Yanjin randomly found a bush to AFK in, using his phone to click into Duan Mingyue’s stream.
The situation had developed to a point where there was no room for a comeback. Watching the stream now didn’t count as stream sniping.
Just as he entered, he heard a delicate and sweet female voice from inside.
“Brother Moon,” Lu Yuan called out coquettishly, “Still killing?”
After a while, he heard Duan Mingyue’s slightly low, steady voice, giving a light “En.”
Shen Yanjin trembled.
Duan Mingyue was duo-queueing with Lu Yuan.
At the same time, the chat box in the match also confirmed this fact.
[One Thought Killing Severed (Ascetic Monk): Yeah, it’s Lucida.]
The slight joy generated just now because the Blade Master showed mercy instantly turned into foam. The little kitty curled up in the bush, its tail angrily hitting the ground.
