Chapter 16: Truly an Ingrate
The Urs Forest was vast and deep, with rugged roads that were difficult to walk. In the group of four, Cheng Tingyan and Xie Ning complained all the way, making Leng Xingtu irritable. He turned his head. “Are you two dogs? Why are you barking so much?”
Cheng Tingyan shut his mouth instantly, muttering softly, “Urs Forest isn’t your home; can’t even let people talk.”
“If you want to talk, go aside to talk. It’s noisy to death.” Leng Xingtu said impatiently.
“Xingtu.” Ye Zhile pulled him, and the two walked ahead first.
Cheng Tingyan stared at Ye Zhile’s back, almost staring fire out of his eyes. Just now Ye Zhile made him lose face in front of the Supreme Leader and caused him to lose a semester of quality credits!
A poor ghost who pretends to be noble but hooks up with everyone! What qualification does he have for the Supreme Leader to protect him so much?
Ye Zhile turned his head, meeting that unkind gaze directly. He glanced lightly and continued to walk forward with Leng Xingtu.
“Do you think we’ll encounter any beasts on our first day?” Leng Xingtu pushed aside the bushes. The bushes in this forest grew in clusters, blocking the road directly. Leng Xingtu reminded him, “Be careful, in case there are pits or ridges.”
“Okay, you be careful too.”
Fortunately, they wore field survival uniforms, which could blend in with nature, and wore gloves and helmets, making it much more convenient.
At noon, the sun got bigger and bigger, and they went deeper as they walked. The two sat under a tree to finish lunch. Ye Zhile suddenly stood up. He held the compass and turned it a few times, his tone frustrated. “It’s over, the compass is malfunctioning.”
“Ah?” Leng Xingtu also stood up. He held a slice of bread in his mouth, took the compass from Ye Zhile’s hand to look, and it really was.
“F*ck! This is too unlucky!” Leng Xingtu took a few bites. “Then how do we distinguish the direction?”
Ye Zhile looked up. “We can judge by the position of sunrise and sunset, but these trees are too tall, we can’t see at all. We can only see if there is a slightly lower place.”
Leng Xingtu took a swig of water. Suddenly he glimpsed something expanding and contracting behind Ye Zhile. His eyes widened. Seeing Ye Zhile about to turn his head, he immediately ordered him, “Don’t move!”
Ye Zhile stiffened. “What’s wrong?”
“There’s a snake…” Leng Xingtu said. Ye Zhile’s eyes widened, a chill rushing up. “Crawled on me?”
“On the branch behind you.” Saying that, Leng Xingtu walked quietly towards Ye Zhile. With quick hands and eyes, he grabbed the snake by its seven inches.
Ye Zhile turned around and saw a rat snake hanging limply in Leng Xingtu’s hand. He couldn’t help but turn his head and go “Wa”.
“Disgusting to death!” Leng Xingtu looked disgusted and hurriedly threw it far away.
Ye Zhile covered his mouth and gave a thumbs up. “Good thing I have you.”
“Small matter, this is nothing. If we encounter a big one later, that would be the end.” Leng Xingtu clapped his hands.
The two were just about to move forward when they suddenly heard a scream. Ye Zhile and Leng Xingtu ran back in a hurry, only to find a huge pit in the bushes on the other side, like a big bowl.
Ye Zhile and Leng Xingtu almost couldn’t brake. Fortunately, they pulled each other. Looking closely, Cheng Tingyan and Xie Ning had fallen down somehow. Beside the two of them was a pile of animal bones.
Cheng Tingyan crawled out in fear, crying for help. “Save me!”
Leng Xingtu pursed his lips. “Suddenly don’t want to save them, what to do?”
Ye Zhile scratched his head. “Saving a life is better than building a seven-story pagoda. Just treat it as blocking disasters for the two of us in this forest?”
Leng Xingtu smiled. “You really know how to talk.”
This pit was more than ten meters in diameter and six or seven meters high, with a vertical ninety-degree surrounding. The walls were loose. It was hard to climb up after falling down. Probably those animals fell down and couldn’t climb up, starving to death.
“Hey!” Leng Xingtu squatted. “Beg me. If you beg me, I’ll pull you up.”
Hearing this, Cheng Tingyan bit his lip and looked at him with resentment. Leng Xingtu sneered. “Still arrogant? Did you see those animal carcasses? The next ones will be you two!”
“Student Leng, please save us.” Xie Ning said. He quickly pulled Cheng Tingyan, signaling him not to be stubborn.
Cheng Tingyan looked at Ye Zhile, looking unhappy. Ye Zhile smiled. “What are you looking at me for? If you want to come up, you have to apologize to me!”
“Why should I!” Cheng Tingyan trembled with anger. Asking him to apologize to Ye Zhile, don’t even think about it.
“Because you are in the pit now, and only Xingtu and I can save you.” Ye Zhile said, “Since you don’t want to, then we’ll leave first.”
After speaking, the two turned and left. Cheng Tingyan panicked. The Urs Forest was too big. If these two left, no one would find them. Cheng Tingyan gritted his teeth, looking aggrieved. “Sorry!”
Ye Zhile turned around. “Spreading rumors ultimately comes with a price.”
Cheng Tingyan held back and didn’t speak.
Ye Zhile took out a hemp rope from his bag. Leng Xingtu tied it to a tree and threw it down.
Cheng Tingyan and Xie Ning climbed up pulling the rope. Cheng Tingyan, who climbed up, didn’t say a word of thanks, even giving Ye Zhile cold looks. Ye Zhile didn’t look at him either. After Xie Ning also climbed up, he retracted the rope.
“Truly an ingrate.” Leng Xingtu said, “If it weren’t for your soft heart, I would have waited for him to send a distress signal and be eliminated.”
“Aiya, just treat it as blocking disasters for the two of us.” Ye Zhile was open-minded. He hugged Leng Xingtu. “Don’t be angry, it’s not worth it.”
Leng Xingtu suddenly laughed. “You aren’t thinking that getting angry causes wrinkles easily, right?”
Ye Zhile laughed out loud. “You still remember?”
“Of course.” Leng Xingtu gave a hmph. “Was angered to death by your sentence the first time we met.”
Ye Zhile was amused. After packing up, the two set off again.
The sky gradually darkened. The two didn’t continue down. It was a bit cold at night. The two found a pile of wood and started a fire, sitting by the fire with coats draped over them. Ye Zhile rested his arms on his knees. “Say, tigers or lions won’t jump out later, right?”
“I think it’s very possible.” Leng Xingtu replied to him.
Ye Zhile cupped his face. “So sleepy. How long have we been walking? How long will it take us to get out?”
“Don’t know…”
Bang—
Ye Zhile looked up. Someone fired a signal flare.
Ye Zhile’s estrus period wasn’t over yet, and his physical condition wasn’t very good. Not long after, he leaned against the tree trunk and fell asleep.
The bright moon climbed up, the fire crackled. After everything quieted down, one or two heavy breaths were heard. Ye Zhile opened his eyes in a daze. Sparks from the fire dotted the air, moonlight shone down, a gray expanse.
Leng Xingtu was already asleep; he seemed unaware that a huge saber-toothed tiger was walking towards him from behind.
Ye Zhile woke up with a start. His eyes widened, reflecting the sparks and that huge blurry thing.
