Chapter 18: Do I Look Like Your Dad?
Birds chirped pleasantly in the woods. Ye Zhile opened his eyes, stretching lazily with a weary face.
Soon after, Lu Xingyan and Leng Xingtu also woke up. The three of them finished breakfast and continued walking east.
However, the journey was not smooth. Looking up, colorful venomous snakes were coiled around tree trunks. Lu Xingyan shielded the two Omegas behind him.
“Watch out for the ground!” Leng Xingtu was startled. Looking down, a venomous snake that had appeared out of nowhere stretched its head and slithered rapidly toward them.
Ye Zhile gripped his dagger, staring tightly at those venomous snakes. Just as a snake sprang up, Ye Zhile swung his knife without thinking. The dagger pierced into the snake’s body, but it slid slippery against Ye Zhile’s arm. Ye Zhile screamed in fright.
“Ye Zhile!” Leng Xingtu hurriedly flicked it away for him, pulling Ye Zhile behind him. Lu Xingyan asked him, “Are you okay?”
Ye Zhile was sweating profusely from nervousness. “N-No problem, don’t worry about me. You guys be careful.”
Ye Zhile held back his nausea. Seeing those slippery venomous snakes flickering their tongues, a chill ran through him.
Leng Xingtu took care of one with a knife and pulled Ye Zhile’s hand. “Let’s go quickly.”
“Brother Xingyan!” Being pulled by Leng Xingtu, Ye Zhile hurriedly turned back to call Lu Xingyan.
Lu Xingyan shook off the venomous snake in his hand and caught up with them.
The three ran forward aimlessly. Unknowingly, they ran to the edge of a cliff. Fortunately, Leng Xingtu stopped quickly, so they didn’t fall off.
Watching the kicked stones fall down without an echo, Leng Xingtu was greatly shocked. “F*ck! Why is there a cliff here!?”
Ye Zhile had lingering fears, looking at him thankfully. “Good thing you stopped fast.”
The three hurriedly retreated, turning to run, but by then it was too late. The group of venomous snakes had caught up and lined up in a row, blocking the path of the three.
“No way, are we going to die here today?” Leng Xingtu questioned.
Lu Xingyan blocked in front. He concentrated his energy. Soon, swarms of hedgehogs emerged from the ground, densely attacking the venomous snakes.
This scene was really a bit comical. Ye Zhile couldn’t help laughing out loud. “Brother Xingyan, these little hedgehogs summoned by your spiritual power are so cute.”
“…” Leng Xingtu.
“…” Lu Xingyan.
Is this the time to notice that?! We’re about to lose our lives!
Feeling the speechless gazes of the two, Ye Zhile immediately put away his smile and obediently shut his mouth.
Fortunately, the hedgehogs were useful. Their bodies full of spikes left the venomous snakes with nowhere to bite, pricking them until they crawled all over the ground. After a while, all the venomous snakes retreated.
The three breathed a sigh of relief, observed the direction of the sun again, and continued walking.
Along the way, they could also see traces of fires made by others.
Rumble—
“Is this intentional?” Leng Xingtu looked up, seeing dense dark clouds above their heads, thunder and lightning flashing.
“It’s over, we won’t be eliminated, right?” Ye Zhile was dejected.
“We won’t.” Lu Xingyan said, looking at Ye Zhile. “If you can’t walk anymore, I can carry you.”
Leng Xingtu turned his head. He looked at this Alpha claiming to be Ye Zhile’s good friend, staring at the Omega with a gaze that wasn’t exactly innocent, unable to hide his affectionate feelings.
He sneered. An overestimating brat; that’s the Leader’s Spouse, yet he dares to covet him.
Ye Zhile shook his head, refusing. “No need.”
“I say some people, their little thoughts are too obvious.” Leng Xingtu put his arm around Ye Zhile’s shoulder, glancing at Lu Xingyan, his words carrying hidden meaning.
Ye Zhile turned his head. “What?”
Leng Xingtu turned his head back. “Not talking about you.”
Ye Zhile pouted.
Lu Xingyan didn’t explain; he just smiled slightly.
To avoid getting soaked like drowned rats in the heavy rain, plus the difficulty of walking, the three trotted all the way. Not long after, a strong wind blew, and the surroundings became eerie and terrifying, seeming to have wolf howls.
The three became more careful. Fortunately, the exit became more and more obvious. The bushes gradually decreased, and the slope became steeper. Following the path down the mountain, they could find the exit.
The heavy rain behind them also followed closely. Ye Zhile glanced back inadvertently; three or four wolf cubs were also following them fiercely.
“Lele!” Lu Xingyan slowed down. “Be careful!”
Seeing the lead wolf about to catch up with Ye Zhile, Ye Zhile didn’t know where he got the strength. He climbed the tree branch in front of him with both hands, jumped up with all his might, and turned over to dodge that wolf.
And that wolf, due to inertia, rolled down headfirst.
“That was close…” Ye Zhile was sweating profusely. He hung on the branch in exhaustion, looking down. Two wolves under the tree stared at him, drooling.
“…” Ye Zhile’s mouth twitched. He threw down the backpack in his hand, hitting one of the wolves until it yelped.
“Lele, don’t move!” Lu Xingyan was about to come forward when another wolf bared its teeth at him.
“Don’t worry about me!” Ye Zhile raised his voice. He saw Leng Xingtu intending to go around the back, then his action was discovered by the wolves. One of them immediately ran towards him. “Xingtu, be careful!”
Leng Xingtu knew some kung fu and immediately wrestled with the wolf cub. His spiritual power directly made the wolf cub see him as a huge monster. The wolf cub’s legs trembled, daring not to advance.
“Do I look like your dad?” Ye Zhile stared straight into the little wolf cub’s eyes. He watched the little wolf cub’s eyes become dizzy and confused. A moment later, it howled to the sky and ran around the tree trunk excitedly.
It treated him as its wolf father…
Ye Zhile breathed a sigh of relief. He climbed down the tree trunk, staring vigilantly at the little wolf cub, afraid that the little wolf cub would see through his spiritual power and come up to swallow him in one bite.
Fortunately, this wolf cub was relatively silly. Ye Zhile sat leaning against the tree trunk. Seeing the wolf cub wanting to approach him with attachment, Ye Zhile was so scared his whole body tensed up. He stared closely at the little wolf cub’s eyes and said, “Go back now, or I won’t want you as a son anymore.”
The little wolf cub seemed to understand his words, gave an “awoo” to Ye Zhile, and led the other two to run away.
“You actually acted as a dad to it!” Leng Xingtu walked over and pulled him up from the ground. Ye Zhile smiled weakly. “No choice, one has to act as a father to others when outside.”
“Hahaha… Ye Zhile, when did you learn to tell jokes?” Leng Xingtu laughed loudly.
“Didn’t I learn from you…”
The heavy rain had already come down. The three had nowhere to avoid it, so they simply didn’t hide anymore, using backpacks to block their heads, preparing to wait for the rain to stop before leaving.
“Everything must be going wrong today. If not venomous snakes, then wolf cubs. Later, there won’t be a landslide… Mmph…” Before Leng Xingtu finished speaking, Ye Zhile covered his mouth first, looking at him with horror like Lu Xingyan.
“Do you know the phrase ‘a prophecy fulfilled’? Shh~” Ye Zhile told him to shut up.
Leng Xingtu was also scared, nodding obediently for the first time.
