Chapter 108: “Kill Me, Do You Dare?”
Before this lifetime, Du Xun probably never thought to connect the Insect Mother to a human being.
Or perhaps, even if he did, he wouldn’t point the finger at his own Omega mother who had been dead for nearly twenty years.
No one questions the dead.
That was why there were so many cross-outs above that line of text.
In this life, Du Xun must have discovered some clue earlier on.
So, his plan for this life had changed.
“Madam…”
Shen Zhuo saw the silk handkerchief An offered and shook his head.
“I was just thinking, on the day Du Xun reached this conclusion, what must he have felt?”
His deceased mother had been made into a vessel for the Insect Mother, a tool to control the Zerg.
And the instigator was his other mother.
The supreme Queen of the Empire.
Did Du Xun feel disgusted?
Or did he feel that everything was ridiculous and absurd?
“The Master, apart from you, has no other wish.”
An had been by Du Xun’s side for many years, after all.
Even through observation, he could discern some of Du Xun’s thoughts.
“In my opinion, everything the Master is doing now, whether it’s war or opposing the Royal Family, has only one purpose.”
An looked at Shen Zhuo, his gaze gentle yet firm:
“That is to create a beautiful future for you.”
“A peaceful future where there is no more fighting.”
Shen Zhuo lowered his eyes and gently turned the ring on his finger.
After a long while, he said, “I know.”
Shen Zhuo: “But I won’t let him bear all of this alone.”
The boy raised his head, his gaze resilient with a touch of arrogance deep in his bones:
“I am not a canary; I am a six-winged eagle.”
If Du Xun was fleeing outside with no one to help, then he could deal with the Insect Mother.
At the very least, he could ensure no new Zerg appeared in this country.
Ensure no more bugs that evolved to look like humans appeared.
At least he could help Du Xun eliminate future trouble.
An’s gaze shifted slightly. He bowed his head, placing his hand over his heart again:
“I await your command, Madam.”
Shen Zhuo glanced out the window.
The night was quiet and starry, the chirping of insects fading.
The originally peaceful manor remained quiet, like the dead silence before a storm.
It was already nine o’clock.
“Twelve o’clock. We go to the palace in secret. Bring weapons.”
An nodded: “Yes, I will prepare immediately. But…”
An looked troubled, but finally asked, “May I know Madam’s plan?”
The boy’s calm, pitch-black eyes shone no less brightly than any star in the night.
Standing with his back to the silent garden, he put away the architectural map and didn’t say much, only stating:
“Let the dead rest in peace.”
.
However, plans couldn’t keep up with changes.
Around ten o’clock, blinding lights appeared outside the garden.
Shen Zhuo put on a combat uniform for ease of movement, tucked the knife Du Xun gave him into his lower back, and took the gun An handed him.
“You all provide support from the outside when the time comes.”
An originally wanted to say something.
At least he wanted to act together with Madam.
But he wasn’t an S5, or even an S4.
He was afraid he would be a burden.
“Yes, Madam.”
Just as the voice fell, blinding searchlights swept across their pupils, accompanied by the sound of arguing below.
“Shen Zhuo!” It was a shrill female voice.
Shen Zhuo looked down through the window and saw Feng Mu Ya in combat gear standing in front of rows of palace guards.
And in front of Feng Mu Ya, giving not a single step, was Ai Li.
“What, you want to resist a military order? This matter has nothing to do with you. If you dare block this Princess again, don’t think about staying in Ares anymore.”
Feng Mu Ya was as arrogant and domineering as ever.
Ai Li, however, didn’t show even a hint of wavering.
“Impossible.”
Feng Mu Ya looked at Ai Li with pity, then shouted towards the window:
“I give you one minute to come down here, Shen Zhuo, or else I will destroy this place.”
Shen Zhuo shook his head at An, who was hurriedly trying to stop him.
“Play it by ear. The original plan stands.”
He adjusted his collar and turned to go down the stairs.
The moment the manor gates opened, all lights and gun muzzles aimed at the boy.
Shen Zhuo’s face was rippleless; even under the searchlights that made it almost impossible to open one’s eyes, his expression remained cold.
“Shen Zhuo, killing people comes with a price. Come back with this Princess, and perhaps Mother’s anger will subside a little.”
Feng Mu Ya’s eyes were full of mockery as she looked Shen Zhuo up and down.
The exquisite pistol in her hand pointed at Shen Zhuo’s brow:
“Who knows, maybe you can even keep one of your arms or legs?”
Seeing him come out, Ai Li was both angry and anxious:
“What are you doing! I’m here, Fu Qi Shang is outside, and Liang Ye Ta went to the military to mediate. Why did you come down!”
Shen Zhuo exchanged a look with him.
Since childhood, Ai Li was the friend who understood him best.
A single look could decide whether they were skipping class together or fighting together.
Ai Li frowned, unwilling, but ultimately he shut his mouth and stood his ground.
Shen Zhuo turned to look into Feng Mu Ya’s eyes, walking down the wide steps in front of the manor, step by step.
“What are you doing? Don’t move!” Feng Mu Ya raised her gun repeatedly.
But Shen Zhuo was unmoved.
Not until his forehead, hair blown by the wind, pressed against the muzzle of Feng Mu Ya’s gun.
The boy lowered his eyes, the corners of his mouth curving up just a fraction.
“Shoot. Do you dare?”
The light from the searchlights shone from below. Under such lighting, those pitch-black eyes were clearly not friendly.
Shen Zhuo’s disdain and the curve of his lips gave him a touch of ruthlessness never before seen in such light.
He was never one to sit and wait for death.
The girl looked unhappy.
“You don’t dare,” the boy said softly.
Shen Zhuo pulled the dagger from his equipment belt, pushed aside the gun muzzle, and stuffed the handle into Feng Mu Ya’s hand.
Then, gripping her wrist, he placed the dagger against his own neck.
The cold blade pressed against his pale, delicate skin. Just a little force would sever the veins and arteries.
Feng Mu Ya looked terrified and hurriedly let go.
The dagger fell to Shen Zhuo’s feet, bouncing a few times.
“You don’t even dare to let me get hurt.”
Shen Zhuo bent down, approached Feng Mu Ya’s paling face, and spoke softly, without emotion:
“Right, Princess?”
Feng Mu Ya was speechless for a moment.
The Queen’s task was indeed to bring Shen Zhuo back to the palace intact.
He could not have a single injury.
Feng Mu Ya’s face turned green and white. She gritted her teeth:
“Bring the collar. I don’t believe you can resist once you’re chained.”
“Shen Zhuo!” Ai Li thought Shen Zhuo would handle it.
He had waited on the side holding onto the thought that Shen Zhuo would send these people running away with their tails between their legs.
But seeing the boy actually put on the collar without struggling, Ai Li couldn’t sit still anymore.
“What are you doing!” Ai Li wanted to step forward but was immediately targeted by dozens of guns.
Shen Zhuo turned his head slightly and looked at An.
An immediately understood, bowed slightly, and used his pheromones to stop Ai Li’s next move.
An S3 Alpha could still easily stop an S1 Omega’s actions.
Moreover, An’s ability itself was [Imprisonment].
Ai Li’s foot, having just stepped into the air, was instantly frozen in place along with his whole body.
“Let go of me! Are you crazy! Your master is being taken away!!”
An, however, winked.
Ai Li didn’t care about this outsider; his heart was entirely focused on Shen Zhuo: “Shen Zhuo! You are not allowed to go! Come back!!”
His voice, terrified to the extreme, became hysterical. Ai Li wanted to chase but was fixed in place.
His screams slowly turned into sobbing murmurs.
“Don’t go… Shen Zhuo…”
“You can’t…”
“Come back…”
Ai Li thought Shen Zhuo would definitely be taken away and had already prepared himself to storm the palace.
But the boy, surrounded by soldiers and about to leave Bai Meng, suddenly raised his hand.
In the air, he snapped his fingers.
In the next second, fire was thrown from every corner of the manor onto the pine trees in the garden.
The flames made contact with the resin in the pines, making a crackling sound.
Almost instantly, the firelight shot straight into the night sky, illuminating a large swathe of stars.
A fire large enough to sweep away everything pressed directly from both sides toward Feng Mu Ya and the soldiers.
In that thick notebook of Du Xun’s, there was such an entry—
[The pine trees in the flower beds contain high amounts of resin/oil. Use as escape cover. Need to be extra careful during maintenance.]
Feng Mu Ya obviously hadn’t expected such a turn of events. Too busy to care about anything else, she screamed and fled out of the manor in a panic.
And the “soldiers” all around, after having their clothes and flesh burned away, revealed skeletons that only belonged to insectoids.
The crackling and bursting sounds were endless.
Pine trees burned together with insect bodies.
The scene was chaotic and grotesque.
The fire spread quickly, soon reaching the steps.
No one was escorting Shen Zhuo anymore. The boy immediately headed towards Ai Li and An.
He took out a key card:
“The fire here needs to be bigger. We are leaving.”
Create confusion, burn the enemy, make a feint to the east while attacking the west.
From the very beginning of its construction, Bai Meng was prepared to be sacrificed.
And right now, it would serve its greatest purpose.
“With so many bugs outside, the Insect Mother must be nearby. Only the Insect Mother can control so many humanoid Zerg.”
“Only a massive fire will make her think the mission failed and return to the palace.”
Actually, when Shen Zhuo made the plan to go to the palace basement at midnight to find the Insect Mother, he had considered the question of whether she would be there.
It had been four days since his escape. The Insect Mother might be directing Zerg actions elsewhere.
He hadn’t figured out how to deal with the Insect Mother’s absence initially.
But now, everything was solved.
“The fire at Bai Meng needs to be bigger.” Shen Zhuo lifted his chin, asking An to unlock the collar.
An’s lock-picking skills were maxed out; he removed the collar in less than a minute.
“How did you know they were bugs?!” Ai Li followed behind Shen Zhuo with a shocked face, running towards the escape tunnel.
He hadn’t noticed at all.
They looked too human.
“Palace soldiers all have tattoos on their necks. They didn’t.”
“And do you think Her Majesty would let Feng Mu Ya lead the soldiers?”
Feng Mu Ya was deliberately raised by the Queen to be arrogant and domineering, all to disrupt their rhythm.
An insolent princess who didn’t know the immensity of heaven and earth was an existence no one dared, nor wanted, to easily provoke.
She just needed to stall him or Du Xun at critical moments.
Just like when Du Xun was in his susceptibility period at the military headquarters.
The order Feng Mu Ya received was probably to stall Shen Zhuo.
As long as Du Xun hurt someone during his susceptibility period, he would receive the corresponding punishment.
If he killed someone, it would play right into the Queen’s hands.
Killing a son who could overthrow her royal family at any time was more important than anything.
And a daughter who achieved nothing naturally couldn’t be entrusted with important tasks.
Ai Li suddenly realized:
“Then where are we going now?”
Shen Zhuo stopped before a hidden door at the end of the underground garage.
He raised his hand and pressed the key card against the sensor on the side.
The door lit up with a green light and opened in response, carving out a slice of cool shade amidst the scorching heat behind them.
“To the palace,” Shen Zhuo said softly. “I have a hunch.”
“Du Xun is there too.”
