Part 3
Afterward, Luo Wenshu took Luo Xingyu to a milk tea shop. They happened to be running a promotion: First Prize was two super beautiful ceramic mugs, Second Prize was a free order, Third Prize was 50% off, and the Participation Prize was a two-yuan discount.
Luo Wenshu ordered and said to Luo Xingyu before paying, “Guess what prize we’ll win?”
Luo Xingyu looked at all the prizes. “I want the cups.”
He used to have a pale blue cup with a cartoon whale pattern at home that was very pretty, but before Luo Wenshu arrived, he had accidentally dropped and broken it.
“Then First Prize it is,” Luo Wenshu said, her tone as if she were buying something rather than playing a low-probability lottery.
The cashier was a tall, sunny, handsome male college student working a summer job with a choppy haircut. Hearing her words, he didn’t think much of it. Watching the info on the register screen, he habitually said, “Congratulations, you won the Sunshine… eh, First Prize!”
The shop was quite busy with the event. Until now, all he had heard were Sunshine Participation Prizes. Although not much, two yuan was still money, and everyone was happy enough.
Catching a First Prize unexpectedly, people couldn’t help but look over curiously.
The male student smiled apologetically. “Sorry, I read it wrong just now!”
As he spoke, he took a beautifully packaged box from under the counter. It had a small window on the front sealed with transparent plastic, revealing the cups displayed in the store. “This is your gift!”
Luo Xingyu temporarily hoisted his excavator toy onto his shoulder while reaching out to take the gift box.
He didn’t forget to cheer, “Mom is so amazing!”
Luo Wenshu smiled, roughly understanding what was happening in her heart.
Not only had she not suffered karmic backlash for interfering in the Tang and Yu family affairs, but her luck had actually experienced a small burst. She could get small, inexpensive things just by wanting them.
What was this?
Having exposed a conspiracy that had deceived the world for twenty years, did the laws of this realm suddenly find her pleasing to the eye and give her a reward?
When it was displeased with her, it wished she would die on the spot. Now that it thought she was okay, it gave these small favors…
Was it treating her like a beggar?
Luo Wenshu felt disdain in her heart.
The milk tea was ready soon. Luo Wenshu took it from the staff, took Luo Xingyu to store the toys and cup gift box, and then began shopping in the mall while drinking milk tea.
They went to the toy section first, letting Luo Xingyu pick whatever he liked to buy.
Children’s items were expensive to begin with, and in a large mall, the prices were even higher.
Luo Xingyu was probably used to being frugal. He initially fancied a go-kart, but upon asking the price and hearing it was nearly three thousand, his little head shook like a rattle drum, and he turned to pull Luo Wenshu away.
“Do you like it?” Luo Wenshu took him to sit on a rest bench outside and asked softly.
Luo Xingyu shook his head.
“Do you not like it, or do you think it’s too expensive?” Luo Wenshu asked more specifically. “Tell the truth.”
Luo Xingyu was silent for a moment before whispering, “Too expensive.”
“If we didn’t have money, this price would indeed be expensive. But we have money now. Your WeChat has over two hundred thousand in it, including money you earned yourself. Buying a toy you like that you can play with for a long time isn’t expensive at this price.”
Luo Xingyu seemed swayed by her words. Looking at the go-kart in the store not far away, he hesitated for a long while before whispering, “Then I’ll just buy this one…”
Luo Wenshu patted his head. “Let’s buy it first.”
Subsequently, Luo Xingyu bought a few more toys. He thought each one was expensive but quickly gritted his teeth and paid under Luo Wenshu’s persuasion.
It was soon noon. Seeing that Luo Wenshu intended to continue browsing the toy section, Luo Xingyu grabbed her hand and refused to budge.
In one morning, he had already spent over ten thousand. He couldn’t continue!
Seeing him looking a bit anxious, Luo Wenshu relented. “Alright, let’s get something to eat, then buy clothes.”
It was the end of August, almost September. It was time to buy autumn clothes. She needed to buy some too. Afterward, the things left by the original owner of this body would basically be sealed in that room.
Luo Xingyu breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.
But soon, he knew he was wrong.
For the first time, he learned that children’s clothes could be sold so expensively!!
Were they made of gold?
Why not just rob people?!
This time, Luo Xingyu refused to compromise no matter what. He stated that they should go to the place where he used to buy clothes in a few days. It was cheaper there; the price of one item here could buy two sets there!
Luo Wenshu didn’t force him. They left the children’s clothing section to look at clothes for her.
Unexpectedly, Luo Xingyu, who had been excessively frugal to the point of stingingness just now, suddenly changed his character.
Luo Wenshu tried three outfits, and he said two looked good. The prices were two thousand eight and three thousand six respectively, yet he didn’t think they were expensive. He had already taken out the phone, ready to pay as soon as Luo Wenshu nodded.
He even recommended a floral dress costing six thousand eight to Luo Wenshu.
Luo Wenshu tried it on. It matched the original temperament of this body quite well, but it didn’t suit the current her.
In the end, she took the two thousand eight and three thousand six ones and went to the next store.
After a round of shopping, Luo Wenshu casually spent over thirty thousand.
Luo Xingyu didn’t blink an eye the whole time. He would point out what didn’t fit and praise what looked good. But because he was so young, the sales assistants lacked experience dealing with him and could only repeatedly praise, ‘Your child is so smart, he has such good taste,’ and so on.
Just as they were preparing to leave, Luo Xingyu suddenly stopped and stared blankly at a store opposite.
Luo Wenshu followed his gaze and immediately realized what he was looking at.
It was a gentle-style floral dress, knee-length, worn by a mannequin. Luo Wenshu could imagine the original owner of this body wearing it.
Because two years ago, the original owner had tried a dress of a similar style, though the quality was somewhat inferior to this one.
At that time, the original owner really liked that dress and looked in the mirror for a long time, but in the end, she didn’t buy it.
Because Luo Xingyu was about to start kindergarten, and a semester’s tuition was a lot of money for the original owner, she had to be frugal.
Later, when the original owner had a bit more money and wanted to buy that dress, the store had already closed.
That probably counted as a small regret for the original owner.
What Luo Wenshu hadn’t expected was that Luo Xingyu, who was only three years old at the time, remembered that incident and vaguely understood that regret.
“Do you want to buy it for Mom?” Luo Wenshu walked to his side and asked softly.
Luo Xingyu stared at it for a while longer, then shook his head. “Never mind, it’s very expensive.”
After walking around here, Luo Xingyu had a general idea of the prices of goods. After hesitating, he decided to give up.
Hearing this, Luo Wenshu touched his head. “It’s okay. You’re going to see her soon. Consider it a meeting gift for her. How about buying it with the money you earned before?”
“But I already bought toys…” As Luo Xingyu spoke, he suddenly regretted buying the toys.
“I bought those for you,” Luo Wenshu told him, taking his hand and walking into the store. She asked the sales assistant to take the dress down. Without trying it on, she just held it up for size. Seeing it looked about right, she had the sales assistant wrap it up.
When paying, Luo Xingyu showed a rare hesitation.
“Next, we’ll buy other things, then eat and go home…”
“Okay…”
