Chapter 44: Charming Atmosphere — Ah Yan is So Good part 1
[I really regret not kissing Wifey, or even just touching him once.]
[Is that your brother? He looks like a meal too.]
Jiang Yunian’s hand paused as he turned off the lights, his heart tightening instantly.
[Don’t you mess around. If you want something, come at me.]
[As long as Wifey obediently listens, I won’t do anything to him.]
The phone slipped from his palm and sank into the bedding. Jiang Yunian buried his face deeply into the pillow. The quilt wrapped around him, but the chill in his heart was hard to dispel.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the bedroom door from the outside, and then it was pushed open.
Jiang Yunian poked half his head out from the blankets. His face was flushed a light pink from being suffocated, and his fluffy hair was scattered, with a few stray strands sticking up (ahoge).
Before he could speak, Jiang Yan had already walked to the bedside. Without turning on the light, he reached out in the faint moonlight and touched Jiang Yunian’s face.
Meeting his confused gaze, Jiang Yan said he was afraid Jiang Yunian was still thinking about what happened in the alley and couldn’t sleep, so he came specially to check.
“Very scared?” His voice was very soft, as if afraid of startling him.
Jiang Yunian bit his lower lip and mumbled that he was okay. Jiang Yan’s palm was pressed against his cheek, the temperature noticeably high.
“No lying.”
Jiang Yunian closed his eyes and dodged slightly, admitting honestly, “Okay, I am a little unable to sleep.”
As soon as the words fell, the corner of the quilt was lifted. Jiang Yan climbed directly onto the bed and burrowed in. The mattress beside him sank significantly. A warm body pressed against him; an arm circled his waist, pulling him into an embrace.
Jiang Yunian’s soft flesh was squeezed, and he couldn’t help but let out a hum, nervously pressing down on the hand that was still applying force.
“Don’t move,” Jiang Yan didn’t let go; instead, he tightened his arms, encircling Jiang Yunian’s slender and soft body completely in his arms. “I’ll stay with Ge, and you’ll be able to sleep.”
Jiang Yunian: “…”
Although… well, Jiang Yan was never very well-behaved when sleeping. But that wasn’t the point. The point was… he, a straight man, was sleeping in the same bed as a gay man who was interested in him. No matter how obtuse he was, he was still a man; he understood that men always wanted to do something.
But it seemed Ah Yan was different.
The awkward relationship between them had long been precarious, separated only by a thin layer of gauze that could be easily pierced. Yet Jiang Yan didn’t do so. Instead, he was patient enough to wait for him to slowly adapt.
Jiang Yan pressed Jiang Yunian’s head into the hollow of his shoulder, his chin gently rubbing against the top of his hair, hinting with a low voice, “I won’t do anything.”
Jiang Yunian smelled the familiar scent on him. The tips of his ears quietly turned red, and his heart thumped along, giving him a faint feeling of losing control.
Since he said so, Jiang Yunian simply stopped overthinking and allowed himself to selfishly occupy this warm embrace. Under the covers, Jiang Yan’s body temperature was toasty. Being held by him was so comfortable; there was an inexplicable sense of security. Jiang Yunian unconsciously squinted his eyes, his heart turning into a soft puddle.
Ah Yan is truly good.
The haze gradually dissipated. Jiang Yunian snuggled in his arms, unconsciously comparing LG and Jiang Yan. One only knew how to threaten and harass for his own selfish desires, while the other was patient and respectful, saying he would protect him.
What was scary wasn’t homosexuality; it was people with malicious intent.
The anti-fraud publicity event was held in the square in front of the Third Canteen. Funds were limited, so they simply set up a few tables and a small podium. Jiang Yunian was distributing pamphlets to the students who arrived. Hao Meng and He Qing came along too—one representing the Student Union Propaganda Department as a supervisor, the other responsible for taking photos.
Seeing He Qing, Jiang Yunian finished distributing what was left in his hand and walked over.
“That time at the library… he didn’t give you a hard time, did he?”
It was fine until he mentioned it. The moment it was brought up, He Qing couldn’t stay calm. That day, Zhou Shu had carried him away in broad daylight and taken him to a hotel to… even he himself had muddledly went along with it. It reached a point where things got out of hand, and it was too late to regret.
“Why is your face red?”
“Who’s blushing?” He Qing touched his face. “Oh, sweating.”
This… the weather wasn’t even hot.
Seeing this reaction, Jiang Yunian’s expression turned peculiar. Could it really be what he thought?
He asked tactfully, “Did he break off the engagement?”
He Qing’s face turned even redder. He looked up at the sky, his mouth stubborn: “Who knows about him.”
Judging by this, the fiancée thing must have been a misunderstanding. Otherwise, He Qing wouldn’t be acting like this. Even Jiang Yunian could detect a trace of… “shyness”?
Jiang Yunian blinked and secretly glanced at the blush on He Qing’s face again. It was no different from ordinary little couples in love. Surprisingly, he didn’t feel any dissonance or repulsion in his heart.
So, two men dating wasn’t really any different. Out of nowhere, he thought of Jiang Yan’s kiss that night, and unexpectedly, he started to feel embarrassed too.
He Qing suddenly turned his head, eyeing him suspiciously, as if to say: What are you blushing for?
Truly, the wheel of fortune turns. Jiang Yunian’s eyes darted around. Hearing a team member call him, he quickly used it as an excuse to slip away.
He Qing looked at his retreating back, baffled.
Jiang Yunian patted his face as he walked, thinking he must be possessed. Why did thinking of Ah Yan make him blush? He slapped his cheeks for a good while before he slowly cooled down.
Several police officers were specially invited to explain things at this event. He stood aside, listening until he was drowsy. Finally enduring until the end, Hao Meng walked over and grabbed him, informing him that the Volunteer Association and the Propaganda Department were preparing a joint mixer party, set for Saturday night, and he had to come.
Jiang Yunian shook his head without thinking. “I won’t go. Ah Yan is home alone.”
“He’s such a big lad, will he get lost? Does he need his brother to accompany him specifically?” Hao Meng pouted. “Is your brother clingy to an excessive degree? Those who don’t know would think you’re keeping a girlfriend company.”
Jiang Yunian lowered his head to organize the things on the table and didn’t reply. He Qing walked over carrying the camera. Hao Meng, sharp-eyed, caught him. “You’ve become an unofficial member of our department; you have to come.”
He Qing had no interest in crowded places and had to work part-time at night. “You guys go.”
Rejected by two handsome guys in a row, Hao Meng puffed up angrily. “What is wrong with you one by one? Did you all go off to fall in love?”
Jiang Yunian buried his head, acting like a mushroom, but Hao Meng didn’t let him off, throwing him a sharp look. “Speaking of which, how are things going with you and Xuanxuan?”
Uh…
It was awkward to say. He and Tao Jingxuan hadn’t been in contact for a while. Even when they did communicate, it was lukewarm. Neither of them had that kind of interest; Tao Jingxuan simply treated him as a senior.
Seeing him like this, Hao Meng knew it was a hopeless case and stuck out her tongue. “Straight man.” She then asked He Qing, “And you? Is your boyfriend strict and won’t let you show your face?”
He Qing wasn’t provoked by her goading and retorted, “How did you know?” After speaking, he left calmly.
Hao Meng was left speechless. She pointed at his back, then pointed at Jiang Yunian. “One by one, you’ve really made progress.”
Lu Yuanbai came over and happened to bring up the party. Hao Meng said, “He’s not going.”
He turned his head to cast an inquiring look at Jiang Yunian. Thinking that Jiang Yunian hadn’t come to the last team building either, he said, “Go. It’s all acquaintances this time.”
Since the busy President personally invited him, Jiang Yunian hesitated. It wasn’t good not to fit in with the team. In the end, he agreed. Hao Meng pretended to be melancholy: “I, this old classmate, am really old news. My words aren’t as effective as the President’s.”
Jiang Yunian scratched his face; he hadn’t thought that much. Lu Yuanbai chuckled softly and asked him, “Has everything been distributed?”
