Chapter 56
Shen Shuyu and Shen Xili walked for a while, stopping only when they heard no movement behind them. Shen Shuyu simply plopped down on the ground and said, “Rest, rest for a bit.”
He had walked non-stop with Shen Xili all the way, and his knee hurt terribly. Standing beside him, Shen Xili was also gasping for breath, sweat dripping continuously down the contours of his face.
Shen Shuyu raised his eyes slightly and glanced at his sleeve. The sleeve on his forearm had been torn, and the blood had dried, sticking to the clothes and arm, looking quite scary.
Shen Shuyu swallowed and asked, “Your arm, is it okay?”
Shen Xili looked down and glanced at it. “It’s fine.”
As soon as his voice fell, his whole body suddenly collapsed toward Shen Shuyu. Shen Shuyu looked bewildered, but his body moved faster to prop him up and hug him tightly.
Don’t understand, why are my movements so practiced?
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on this. Shen Shuyu struggled to position Shen Xili’s body so he could lean against him. He reached out with his other hand to feel his forehead, but shrank back as soon as he touched it.
Why is it so hot?
Shen Shuyu frowned and reached out again to touch his forehead. The body temperature was scorching hot; it could cook food.
“Why didn’t you say you had a fever?” Shen Shuyu asked him.
Shen Xili just frowned in discomfort and didn’t respond.
This was tricky. Shen Shuyu felt his head swelling. Their medicine was mostly with Lin Xuyi; he only had some painkillers on him for emergencies.
He shook Shen Xili, but Shen Xili wouldn’t wake up no matter what. If he couldn’t still feel his breathing and body temperature, Shen Shuyu would have thought he was almost gone.
Shen Shuyu looked around. He didn’t know where they had run to. There were no buildings around, only deep forest.
Shen Shuyu laid him on the ground and climbed up, enduring the pain in his knee. He looked around and started calling the System.
This time the System wasn’t blocked; it appeared as soon as he called.
[Master~ I’m here~] Little One’s tone was still cheerful.
Shen Shuyu asked: [Why were you blocked just now?]
The System being blockedāit usually couldn’t be summoned when they entered a level, but today, it seemed to malfunction frequently.
[Because there were irresistible factors in the survival station that blocked me.] Little One sounded aggrieved: [But I don’t know the specific factors either.]
Shen Shuyu exhaled a long breath. [Forget it, let’s not talk about this. Check Shen Xili for me first. How did he suddenly faint and develop a fever?]
[Okay Master, entering detection modeādetectingādetection complete.] Little One was very fast. It said: [Master~ Shen Xili is in a coma with a high fever because of snake venom. He will be fine once the fever goes down.]
Easier said than done, but I don’t have medicine right now!
Shen Shuyu had a headache. He asked again: [Is there a place to hide around here?]
The two of them couldn’t just lie carelessly on the road like this. If a Zerg or another team came, they would both be eliminated directly.
[Yes.] Little One said: [Five hundred meters forward, turn left. There is a small cave, very hidden.]
Shen Shuyu looked forward, then looked down at Shen Xili lying on the ground. Who understands! Can’t escape the fate of carrying people!
Shen Shuyu squatted down again, helped Shen Xili up, and hoisted him onto his back in one breath. His shattered knee went soft, and he almost planted face-first into the ground.
Shen Shuyu hurried to stabilize himself, staggering as he half-carried, half-dragged Shen Xili into the cave. This cave was indeed hidden. After entering and smoothing out the weeds outside, no traces could be seen at all.
Shen Shuyu placed him leaning against a rock. He propped his leg up and crawled a bit to the side, then lay directly on the ground. Let him rest, it’s simply too exhausting.
He rolled over and asked the System in his mind: [There’s no medicine now. How can I make him sober up a bit?]
Little One said: [Can only rely on endurance, letting his own self-healing ability kill the snake venom.]
Shen Shuyu thought for a moment: [Besides high fever and coma, there shouldn’t be other problems, right?]
[No, Master~ This is a Survival War; at most, it makes students feel uncomfortable. There won’t be life-threatening danger~ But if Master encounters it outside, better run for your life immediately.]
After all, snake venom outside and snake venom inside here were two different things.
Shen Shuyu shuddered. He rolled over and stared at the cave for a while. The System asked again: [Master, what about the plot later?]
Shen Xili was already like this; it was impossible for him to follow Shen Shuyu to the edge of a pit and be pushed in. Moreover, during their escape just now, Shen Xili must have realized something was wrong with his body long ago but endured the discomfort. He only fainted after they were temporarily safe. Anyone seeing this would say: He’s in love.
Shen Shuyu sighed. He climbed up and rolled up his pant leg to look. The knee that had scabbed over had cracked open again, leaving a trail of blood all the way.
He asked: [Do you have anything to clean wounds for me?]
[No.] Little One said: [The anesthetic I gave you last time was because it was too urgent, so I gave it to you in advance. If you want other things, I have to report to the Master Mind now, or it will scold me again.]
[Forget it.] Shen Shuyu said: [Then help me see where there is a water source? I’ll wash Shen Xili’s wound.]
[Exit the cave, walk a little bit to the left and you’ll see it.] Little One blamed itself: [Really sorry Master, Little One is useless.]
[It’s okay.] Shen Shuyu comforted it: [You’ve already helped me a lot. Thank you.]
Little One set off a firework in his brain. It watched Shen Shuyu fish out a half-finished bottle of mineral water from his bag, drink a mouthful himself, and feed the rest to Shen Xili.
After the bottle was empty, he limped out of the cave.
With the System present, he didn’t have to worry about being besieged by Zerg or other teams. He quickly returned with water, rolled up Shen Xili’s sleeve, and rinsed the wound clean with clear water. He rummaged through his bag again and found a small roll of gauze and disinfectant. This was what Shen Xili hadn’t finished using when bandaging him; he had stuffed it into his bag smoothly. He just remembered it when fetching water.
Fortunately, when they left the Safe House, considering they might get separated, he and Wen Jiafei each took a bag.
He poured the disinfectant on. When the wound touched the disinfectant, the pain made the unconscious Shen Xili groan involuntarily. Shen Shuyu muttered, “Bear with it, these are the conditions.”
He threw the empty medicine bottle aside and wrapped the wound with gauze.
After doing all this, he looked at the watch on his wrist. 3:45 AM. It was time to follow the plot.
Shen Shuyu asked: [Little One, check where Chi Yanxun is?]
[Quite far from here.] Little One was puzzled: [Master, are you planning to do something?]
Shen Shuyu put on his backpack and turned to look at Shen Xili, who was still lying flat resting. He replied in his mind: [Of course, I’m going to follow the plot!]
