Chapter 84: Who Is Your Husband?
“Wait.” Gu Huaiye called out to Xiang Wanxing. “I have something to ask of you.”
Xiang Wanxing raised an eyebrow and turned to look at Gu Huaiye.
“How rare. To think you would actually ask me for help.”
Afraid Xiang Wanxing would make things difficult for his Brother Gu, Chen Zirui feigned displeasure and pinched Xiang Wanxing’s arm.
“If he asks for your help, just help him. Why so much nonsense?”
Xiang Wanxing laughed in exasperation. “Who exactly is your husband?”
No wonder Xie Miaohan was always wary of Chen Zirui getting too close to Gu Huaiye.
Seeing these two this close, how could he not be jealous?
“What ‘husband’ or not? Isn’t that tacky?”
Xiang Wanxing gritted his teeth. “Next time you beg me to buy something, make sure you don’t call me that.”
Chen Zirui: “…”
Damn it, he was losing all face in front of his best friend.
“Speak. What is it?” Xiang Wanxing didn’t actually intend to make things difficult for Gu Huaiye.
Gu Huaiye hesitated, unsure how to begin.
Xiang Wanxing seemed to realize something. He turned to Chen Zirui.
“Go out and wait for me first. There’s a gift prepared for you in the trunk; go take a look yourself.”
“Alright!”
Once Chen Zirui had left, Gu Huaiye felt less burdened and spoke directly, “Can you help delete all the negative news about Xie Miaohan?”
Yesterday, he had seen more dark rumors about Xie Miaohan online.
This time, it was much more serious.
They were actually spreading rumors that Xie Miaohan had been a gigolo in a bar.
The descriptions were vivid and colorful, as if the writers had truly enjoyed Xie Miaohan’s services.
He didn’t dare ask about it in front of Xie Miaohan, but fearing it would affect Xie Miaohan’s career, he had no choice but to ask Xiang Wanxing for help.
“Is that all?” Xiang Wanxing smiled. “Understood. I’ll help delete the relevant smear campaigns and drag out the people spreading the rumors.”
Gu Huaiye looked grateful. “Thank you, really.”
“No need to thank me. If I didn’t help you, that guy would definitely make a scene with me.”
Gu Huaiye now believed that Xiang Wanxing truly liked Chen Zirui.
For someone in such a high position to do so much for someone whose conditions weren’t anything special—he couldn’t think of any reason other than love.
“I hope you two will be well and stay happy forever.”
Xiang Wanxing put away his casual expression and flashed a sincere smile at Gu Huaiye for the first time.
“Mhm, we will.”
After Xiang Wanxing and Chen Zirui left, Gu Huaiye stared at their wedding invitation, lost in thought.
In his previous life, Chen Zirui had remained single into his thirties, but in this life, not long after graduating from university, he was stepping into marriage.
It seemed that slight changes really could affect many things.
But why was it that he and Xie Miaohan couldn’t change?
Why did it have to become so ugly, leaving both of them aggrieved and covered in wounds?
Xie Miaohan finished his work and came to Gu Huaiye’s room.
He also saw the wedding invitation on the table. It was very similar to the one he had prepared before, and his heart gave a sudden, stinging throb.
But he quickly recovered his cold expression and walked up behind Gu Huaiye.
“Are you going to attend the wedding?”
Gu Huaiye was startled and turned to look at Xie Miaohan.
“Why didn’t you knock? You scared me.”
Xie Miaohan rubbed his hair. “Sorry, I’ll pay attention next time.”
“Mhm, I’m going to the wedding. He’s my best brother; I can’t not go.”
“I’ll go with you. I happen to be Xiang Wanxing’s best man.”
A look of surprise appeared on Gu Huaiye’s face.
He thought Xiang Wanxing’s best man would be someone else.
It seemed their relationship was actually quite good. This way, after he left District B, he wouldn’t have to worry about Xie Miaohan having no one behind him.
At the wedding, Gu Huaiye ran into Chen Xialin, whom he hadn’t seen in a long time.
Chen Xialin and Chen Zirui had been close since childhood. Seeing his older brother exchange rings with Xiang Wanxing, he cried until his eyes were swollen, his face full of reluctance.
Xie Miaohan’s gaze followed Gu Huaiye the entire time.
Following Gu Huaiye’s line of sight, he saw Chen Xialin not far away.
His eyes dimmed. He left the banquet hall and stood alone outside to smoke.
By the time a pile of cigarette butts had accumulated around his expensive handmade leather shoes, Xiang Wanxing appeared beside him, loosening his tie with a weary expression.
“I didn’t expect getting married to be so tiring. Good thing I only have to go through this once.”
Xie Miaohan’s eyelashes trembled, and he said softly, “Congratulations on marrying the person you like.”
Xiang Wanxing looked slightly stunned, his tone somewhat helpless.
“Actually, that Omega is quite nice. I’ve met him a few times. His personality is gentle and considerate, unlike Gu Huaiye, who is covered in thorns—holding on tight hurts my hand, letting go makes my heart ache.”
Xie Miaohan finished the cigarette in his hand, his expression unreadable.
“We’ll see.”
Xie Miaohan stepped on the cigarette butt to extinguish it, preparing to return to the banquet hall to find Gu Huaiye.
Xiang Wanxing frowned and grabbed Xie Miaohan’s arm.
“You’ve been very passive on the battlefield lately.” Xiang Wanxing’s expression turned solemn. “I heard people say you often zone out during battle. That’s a place where swords and guns have no eyes, yet you dare to let your mind wander.”
Xie Miaohan pulled his arm out of Xiang Wanxing’s grip.
“Didn’t we win anyway?” Xie Miaohan said dismissively. “Even if something really happened to me, you’ve cultivated people ready to replace me at any time. It wouldn’t affect you at all.”
“So…” Xiang Wanxing probed, “You want to end your life?”
“No,” Xie Miaohan said. “The one-year term isn’t up yet. I won’t die.”
