Chapter 11 part 1
Luo Shizhen was a person with a one-track mind.
This manifested specifically in the fact that he really did toss his previous worries about how to interact with male classmates to the back of his mind just because the school had washing machines and dryers.
Anyway, with washers and dryers, even if someone bullies me, helping them wash clothes isn’t a difficult task.
—Luo Shizhen comforted himself very simply.
His attention was now completely captivated by the Awakener School before him.
A school with only twenty-seven students occupied an extremely vast area. Walking along, they could even see a huge artificial lake, as well as soccer fields, basketball courts, badminton courts, etc.
Chen He’an led them along, introducing as they walked:
“This is the Strength Training Hall.”
“Speed Training Hall.”
“Perception Training Hall.”
“See that forest in the back? That’s the Combat Center. During combat training, we release some Anomalies in there.”
“This is the dormitory building. The cafeteria is right behind it.”
“The scenery at the artificial lake is nice, right?”
Luo Shizhen was overwhelmed by everything he saw, his face full of awe.
Although Eternal Day was also high-end, visiting it only felt like a tour.
But this place was different. This would be his school from now on. He was going to study here for at least three years!
“It’s so beautiful.”
The lake surface glistened, surrounded by green trees, so large one could hardly see the edge.
Luo Shizhen sighed with emotion again, his face written with delight. “It’s so big!”
Qin Yinian chimed in from behind, “Big, right? Like it?”
“Wait until swimming class; you won’t like it anymore. One requirement for passing swimming is to hold your breath without lifting your head and swim from one end of the lake to the other.”
Luo Shizhen, admiring the lake scenery, looked blank. He knew how to swim. He estimated the distance of the lake surface and immediately looked terrified.
“That would take at least an hour to swim. Won’t people die?”
Qin Yinian crossed his arms. “You won’t die. Precisely because Awakeners are hard to kill, the school trains us to the brink of death.”
Luo Shizhen breathed a sigh of relief. “As long as we don’t die.”
He was still young; he didn’t want to die yet.
Qin Yinian: “? What does that relieved expression mean? You don’t think that ‘not dying’ means ‘no pain’, do you? Holding your breath for an hour—that is suffering.”
He seemed to recall some unbearable memories, and his expression became gloomy and unhappy.
“That’s because you are Fire Element, so it’s harder for you than others,” Chu Xiao’s cold tone interjected. “With enough practice, the body will naturally adapt.”
Qin Yinian spoke sarcastically:
“Oh? Is that so? Respected Water Element Awakener, by ‘body naturally adapts,’ do you mean the time you lost control practicing in the lake and froze half of it?”
Now Chu Xiao’s eyes turned gloomy too. What he hated most was people mentioning that period of uncontrolled experience.
For him, being unable to control himself, going mad like a beast, was no different from killing him.
Ice crystals rotated in his palm. Qin Yinian, feeling the mobilization of ice elements in the air, was not afraid at all, even showing a provocative expression as flames began to condense in his palm.
Cold ice elements and arrogant fire elements accumulated against each other, ready to collide in the next second.
Witnessing this familiar scene, Chen He’an: …Sigh, fighting again.
This was why the Awakener School was built in deep mountain forests.
A bunch of young, aggressive Awakeners gathered together, not having fully learned self-control yet, fighting once, twice, or three-four-five-six-seven-eight-nine times every couple of days.
Since he fought just as frequently when he was young, Chen He’an didn’t plan to stop them.
After all, it wasn’t easy for these two to endure the whole journey outside. Remembering to fight only after returning to school could be considered progress.
Look at how tortured I’ve been by these little cubs.
Moreover, based on experience, stopping them at this moment was impossible. No one could stop two ice and fire users with battle intent.
Chen He’an reached out to shield Luo Shizhen and pull him back, but his hand grasped empty air.
He looked at his empty hand in surprise.
Although he was a Support type, he was Rank 6. His physical reaction speed should definitely be faster than Luo Shizhen, who was newly awakened and likely only Rank 1.
Yet he failed to grab Luo Shizhen.
This child has strong talent.
Luo Shizhen actually hadn’t noticed Mr. Chen trying to grab him. He stepped forward in a flash, looking at Chu Xiao with a face full of worship:
“Chu Xiao! You can freeze half a lake?! You froze half of such a big lake? You’re so amazing!”
Chu Xiao, praised by Luo Shizhen’s worshipful gaze, paused. The coldness on his face melted away by half.
Qin Yinian, watching Luo Shizhen’s “calling a deer a horse” style of praise, couldn’t control his arrogant smile from freezing.
Did Luo Shizhen not hear that his sentence was mocking Chu Xiao?
Or did he hear it but was deliberately comforting Chu Xiao?
Qin Yinian observed Luo Shizhen’s expression suspiciously, realizing with a bit of speechlessness that this kid really thought freezing half the lake was amazing.
What’s so amazing about freezing half an artificial lake?
I burned down my whole family home, and I didn’t see Luo Shizhen praise me for being amazing.
While Qin Yinian felt increasingly unwilling, Luo Shizhen continued with envy:
“Chu Xiao, your grades are so good, and you’re so powerful as an Awakener. You’ll definitely become a Guardian in the future.”
The coldness on Chu Xiao’s face had completely faded. Being young, Chen He’an could see at a glance that compared to just now, his mood was practically sunny.
Qin Yinian lost the will to compete with Chu Xiao, staring straight at Luo Shizhen, his face written with confusion and unwillingness.
Chen He’an was amazed.
Two people as incompatible as fire and water actually ceased fire just like that.
And Luo Shizhen, who accomplished all this, had no idea what happened. After praising Chu Xiao, he leaned curiously over the lake edge, looking down at the rippling water.
The lake rippled slightly, then the waves grew, as if a big fish was rolling underneath.
Luo Shizhen had caught fish before but never encountered such a big one.
Instinctively, he felt a bit greedy.
In his mind, grilled fish, steamed fish, and sour-spicy fish flashed by.
—Splash!
The next second, something actually broke the surface.
Luo Shizhen instinctively reached out and grabbed.
He grabbed a human head.
Luo Shizhen froze, meeting the head’s gaze.
It was a boy with wet hair, delicate features, lake-blue eyes, and a small red mole under his right eye, adding a touch of innocence.
His eyes widened slightly. His dewy, pale face cupped by Luo Shizhen looked somewhat startled.
Luo Shizhen was startled too.
His mind went blank, but suddenly he smelled a soul-capturing fragrance. Thus, his already blank expression became even blanker.
“Y-you smell so good…”
Clearly, he had eaten snacks in the car, yet at this moment, Luo Shizhen felt so hungry, so hungry.
He couldn’t help leaning a bit closer. The boy didn’t dodge, his expression still timid, but his eyes held a hint of satisfaction awaiting the prey to take the bait.
The next second, dozens of ice crystals carrying sharp killing intent shot mercilessly toward the boy’s head.
The boy dodged agilely, but to avoid the ice crystals, he had to retreat a significant distance. A fish tail, beautiful enough not to belong in the mortal world, drew a graceful arc in mid-air.
The tail, blending into light blue, was gorgeous, smooth, light, yet full of power. After a brief flash, the boy’s exquisite face appeared on the lake surface again.
“Why so fierce?”
He looked very aggrieved. “We’re classmates after all; how can you use killing moves on me right away?”
Chu Xiao waved his hand, shooting out another dozen ice blades. The boy dodged hastily and looked at Chen He’an.
“Mr. Chen, look at Chu Xiao!”
While complaining, the boy raised his hand. A wave suddenly rose from the lake, coiled together, and surged toward Chu Xiao’s face.
A huge ice shield blocked Chu Xiao’s front, and backhand, he froze the lake surface where the boy was.
The boy raised an eyebrow. “Oh~ You went to Eternal Day to fix your leg? Thought I could beat a drowning dog.”
The two fought back and forth, water and ice attacking each other. Qin Yinian’s face was full of the look of a spectator, practically taking out a bag of sunflower seeds to eat while shouting “Fight! Fight!”
While enjoying the show, he suddenly thought of something and nudged Luo Shizhen, who was still in a daze.
“Hey! Wake up, hurry up and watch the fun!”
