Chapter 7: Setting Up a Divination Stall Under the Overpass
Lin Yuan lay on the large bed in the room for a while.
He was exhausted.
From descending the mountain yesterday evening until now, his body and mind hadn’t had a moment of peace.
First, he was inexplicably poisoned with Yin poison, then he encountered that demon, Shen Yanzhou.
After a night of torture, he was now dragged back and imprisoned here.
Lin Yuan sighed deeply.
Staring at the ceiling, his expression was sorrowful, and his beautiful black eyes were full of grievance.
He missed his Master.
If Master were still here, he wouldn’t have had to come down the mountain, and he wouldn’t have to endure so much pain that he shouldn’t have to bear.
Master would have protected him well.
Master was gone, and he didn’t know where his parents were.
He could only rely on himself for everything.
What he had to do now was escape quickly and ensure he wouldn’t be caught by Shen Yanzhou again.
Then, find his biological parents as soon as possible.
Once he had a home, Shen Yanzhou wouldn’t dare bully him anymore, right?
Escaping wasn’t hard; he could just command a few ghosts to knock out the bodyguards outside.
The key was that his phone and ID card were held by Shen Yanzhou. Once he got out, how would he survive?
Lin Yuan thought for a while and had an idea.
He could go set up a stall under the overpass and tell fortunes for people!
First, the money earned from divination could fill his stomach; at worst, he could stay in a 24-hour fast-food restaurant.
Second, Master said that divining for others could accumulate Yin virtue and increase cultivation. He needed to improve his cultivation quickly so he could command fierce ghosts to protect himself.
Lin Yuan sat up.
He walked toward the door.
Opening the door, commanding the ghosts, and subduing the bodyguards—it was all done in one smooth motion.
His mood improved.
That damned mad dog Shen Yanzhou told him not to use ghost manipulation?
He was going to use it!
Lin Yuan swaggered into the elevator and left the club.
The feeling of regaining freedom was great, but it also made him slightly uneasy.
He absolutely could not be caught by Shen Yanzhou again this time.
Otherwise…
He dared not think of the consequences.
Asking passersby for directions along the way, he learned that on the outskirts of the downtown commercial district, there was a small business circle famous for folk culture.
Under the overpass there, people were telling fortunes and reading signs.
Lin Yuan hurried along and finally found the place.
Under the overpass, it was indeed lively.
There were stalls selling various small items, and groups of twos and threes telling fortunes.
Lin Yuan looked around; others had banners, small tables, and chairs, but he had no equipment at all.
He picked up a small stone from a nearby green belt and wrote “Fortune Telling and Divination, Guaranteed Accuracy” on the ground.
He also picked up a small styrofoam box next to a trash can to use as a stool and sat by the roadside under the overpass.
People passing by would more or less linger on his face for a moment. But not a single person actually stopped to have their fortune told.
Lin Yuan sat for over an hour without a single customer.
He twirled a fluffy foxtail grass in his hand, his stomach growling.
Tired and hungry.
Just then, an elderly man with white hair attracted Lin Yuan’s attention in front of a stall not far away with a banner that read “Iron Mouth Zhang.”
The old man was thin and small, his clothes somewhat crude.
At this moment, he was bowing repeatedly to Iron Mouth Zhang, looking nervous and panicked.
Curious, Lin Yuan stood up and walked over.
Getting closer, he could hear their conversation clearly.
“Master Zhang, please, you must save my little granddaughter! It doesn’t matter if I live or die, but the child is only two years old!”
As the old man spoke, he wiped the corners of his eyes.
At this time, several onlookers gathered around to watch the excitement.
“Master, what happened to this old gentleman?” A nosy, enthusiastic citizen asked.
A look of smugness appeared on Iron Mouth Zhang’s face.
Naturally, he had to seize this opportunity for a hard advertisement.
“The old man has had a sore neck recently, and his little granddaughter at home has had a high fever that won’t go down, yet no cause can be found. He came to me to see what’s going on.”
The enthusiastic citizen asked again, “Then, Master, did you see anything?”
Iron Mouth Zhang curled his lip. “Naturally. I saw that there is an evil ghost riding on his neck!”
Hearing this, the onlookers were so scared they shuffled back several steps.
Iron Mouth Zhang waved his hand. “Don’t be afraid. Ghosts, foxes, immortals, and monsters entangling the living all have their own causes. That evil ghost is coming for him; it has nothing to do with you!”
As he spoke, he put the prayer beads he was holding onto his wrist.
He nodded slightly to the old man. “Old sir, it’s manageable! Although this evil ghost is fierce, it is not completely unsolvable.”
“It has some karma with you and wants to kill your beloved granddaughter for revenge. As long as I help you untie the entanglement with it, it will naturally retreat!”
The old man nodded like a chicken pecking at rice. “Okay, okay! Thank you for saving our lives, Master!”
Iron Mouth Zhang: “But having said that, personal karma shouldn’t be forcibly interfered with by outsiders. For me to resolve this sinful fate for you will cost me a lot of Yin virtue and cultivation!”
The enthusiastic citizen on the side cooperated very well: “Then you definitely have to give the Master more merit money!”
The old man quickly responded, “I understand this, I understand!”
Saying that, he reached into his pocket and took out a small cloth bundle.
Trembling, he opened it. Inside was a thin stack of pink banknotes.
He pulled out a few and handed them to Iron Mouth Zhang.
“Master, will this do?”
Iron Mouth Zhang touched the beads on his wrist, gave a dry laugh, and didn’t answer.
The old man understood; he thought it was too little.
He looked at the remaining money in his hand. “This is money for my wife’s medical treatment… how about I give it all to you, Master!”
He handed it forward again.
Only then did Iron Mouth Zhang nod with a smile. “Manageable, manageable!”
Just as he was about to reach out and take the money, the stack of cash was suddenly held down by a fair hand that appeared out of nowhere.
Iron Mouth Zhang looked up and saw a strikingly handsome young man staring at him with a look full of amusement.
“What are you doing?” Iron Mouth Zhang frowned.
Lin Yuan looked at him and spoke, “Master, you said there’s a ghost riding on this old gentleman’s neck. Do you have Yin-Yang eyes?”
Iron Mouth Zhang glanced at him sideways. “Naturally! I have practiced for decades; my Heaven’s Eye has long been opened!”
Lin Yuan pursed his lips. “Then take a look. Are there any ghosts on me?”
Iron Mouth Zhang furrowed his brows. “What ghosts would be on you? Don’t make trouble. Go, go, go play somewhere else!”
Lin Yuan could now be certain that this Iron Mouth Master was a charlatan.
There was no ghost on the old man at all.
Because he could command ghosts, although Lin Yuan hadn’t opened his Yin-Yang eyes, he could sense the presence of ghostly entities.
He didn’t feel any cold Yin energy from the old man.
To test him, he had detained two wandering ghosts, which were right beside him at this moment.
Sure enough, Iron Mouth Zhang saw nothing.
It was confirmed that he was spouting nonsense to cheat money.
Lin Yuan pushed the money back into the old man’s hand. “Old sir, the streets are full of swindlers these days. Don’t trust others easily. Not only will you lose your money, but the problem won’t be solved either.”
The enthusiastic citizen next to him was unhappy. “Hey, don’t talk nonsense. The Master saw at a glance that his neck has been sore recently! Can that be fake?”
The old man also looked full of disbelief. “Yes, young man! I didn’t say anything, but the Master saw it!”
