Cold and Ruthless? That’s Nothing Compared to His Wife’s Broken Waist chapter 60

Chapter 60: The Fake Princess and His God of War Prince (17)

Seeing that Xiao Ji seemed quite taken with the fireworks, the pent-up frustration Xiang Yinnian had carried from the military camp instantly vanished. He walked over to Xiao Ji’s side and squeezed in next to him to sit down.

Feeling the icy chill of Xiang Yinnian’s palm, Xiao Ji immediately stuffed the hand warmer he was holding into Xiang Yinnian’s hands.

“It’s been hard on Wangye. Hold this for me for a moment.”

Xiang Yinnian looked at the small ring of fur lining Xiao Ji’s collar. “Why do you always wear so little? The Northern Border’s cold isn’t comparable to the Capital’s.”

Xiao Ji then fussed over moving the blanket covering his own legs entirely onto Xiang Yinnian. “I’ve preferred the cold since I was young; I actually fall ill if I get too hot. Don’t worry about me.”

The two leaned against each other, watching as fireworks from the residences of various Vice Generals joined the Prince’s Estate in lighting up the night sky.

When the watchman’s gong signaling midnight sounded from below the city walls, Xiang Yinnian fished a red brocade pouch from his bosom and stuffed it into Xiao Ji’s hand.

Xiao Ji opened the pouch, only to find a jade tablet inside. “Didn’t you give me the Prince’s Estate token on our wedding day?”

“This isn’t the estate’s command token,” Xiang Yinnian explained. “It’s the token for managing the household finances. From now on, the estate’s treasury is under Wangfei’s control. I ask that Wangfei exercise due diligence—don’t go squandering all of Ben Wang’s family fortune.”

Xiao Ji tucked the pouch into his robes.

“Based solely on Wangye’s trust, Qieshen will make sure to at least leave Wangye with two pairs of trousers.”

Xiang Yinnian laughed aloud. “Then Ben Wang thanks Wangfei for his deep affection.”

Having put away the gift, Xiao Ji also retrieved a brocade pouch embroidered with a colorful phoenix from his sleeve.

“Courtesy demands reciprocity.”

“I get a New Year’s gift too?” Xiang Yinnian hooted.

Just as he reached out to take it, Xiao Ji held the pouch up high.

Xiang Yinnian paused. “What is it? You took it out just to dangle it in front of me?”

Xiao Ji’s expression was bland. “I’ve heard that among the common folk, when young children receive New Year’s money, they are required to kowtow in thanks.”

Xiang Yinnian was stunned for a moment, then let out a scoff.

“How old is Ben Wang? If we’re counting, I should be older than you, yet you’re mocking me like this? Besides, you just accepted my gift—why didn’t you kowtow to me?”

Xiao Ji replied, “You didn’t ask.”

“Complete upheaval of the natural order,” Xiang Yinnian cursed under his breath. “Getting stuck with a piece of work like you… Does a dignified Prince of Beichen like me have to indulge you?”

Saying this, he reached out to snatch it, but Xiao Ji dodged again.

Now, Xiang Yinnian’s competitive streak was ignited; he stood up and lunged at Xiao Ji.

With a swift movement, Xiao Ji stood atop the chair, still holding the pouch high. Seeing this, Xiang Yinnian also stood tall. The two began a contest of chase and dodge, all over a single brocade pouch.

At first, Xiang Yinnian didn’t take Xiao Ji seriously at all. He even planned to grab Xiao Ji’s thighs, hoist him over his shoulder, and “sort him out” first. But unexpectedly, after snatching at him for quite a while, he hadn’t even grazed the hem of Xiao Ji’s clothes.

Thus, the nature of their play began to change.

After probing step by step and experiencing shock after shock, Xiang Yinnian finally let go of his restraints and started fighting Xiao Ji for real.

Amidst the struggle, every move and stance cut through the air with an audible whoosh. Soon, the soldiers garrisoned on the surrounding towers began to watch the spectacle.

Xiang Yinnian struck at Xiao Ji, but not only did Xiao Ji side-step to dodge, he leapt into the air, appearing behind Xiang Yinnian in the very next second.

Xiang Yinnian turned and raised his leg, executing a crisp, clean side kick aimed at the side of Xiao Ji’s neck. Xiao Ji leaned his entire body backward, flying in retreat to once again evade Xiang Yinnian’s attack.

As they traded blows, they neared the edge of the city tower.

Xiang Yinnian had spent years on the battlefield; he trained in killing moves—ruthless and sharp. Initially, he held back for fear of hurting Xiao Ji, but having fought to this point, he now had a clear understanding of Xiao Ji’s capabilities.

Beyond the astonishment, there was the exhilarating thrill of meeting a worthy opponent.

The lingering discomfort in his waist and hips that had been bothering Xiang Yinnian was completely ignored in this moment. He pressed forward step by step until he backed Xiao Ji onto the parapet wall. Seeing Xiao Ji lose his footing and nearly fall off the wall, Xiang Yinnian grabbed Xiao Ji’s wrist, his heart pounding in lingering fear.

“Let’s stop this nonsense…”

Unexpectedly, before he could finish his sentence, Xiao Ji exerted force with his hand, pulling Xiang Yinnian straight down off the city wall with him.

When Xiang Yinnian rode his horse and wielded his blade, even the King of Hell had to give him a wide berth. His internal energy was profound, and naturally, his Qinggong was excellent. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have escaped capture so easily in the Imperial Palace that day.

However, that didn’t mean he could land unharmed from a tower of this height while carrying Xiao Ji without borrowing any leverage.

Xiang Yinnian’s heart leapt to his throat, and he subconsciously moved to protect Xiao Ji.

Yet, Xiao Ji rotated their positions. Just as the fall neared its end, he pulled Xiang Yinnian into his embrace. Without borrowing a single point of leverage for his feet, he landed beneath the city tower as lightly as a feather.

Afterward, without even gasping for breath, he said to Xiang Yinnian, “You knew full well your Qinggong is lacking, yet you dared to pull at me. If I harbored malicious intent, how would today have ended?”

Xiang Yinnian’s suspended heart hadn’t yet settled back into his chest. Amidst the wild thumping, he inhaled a large gulp of cold air and coughed for a good while before replying:

Laozi’s Qinggong is superb! On such a high tower, why did you have to feign a fall to trick me? I only saw that you were about to fall; how could I care about anything else?!”

Xiao Ji spoke indifferently, “There can never be too much deception in war. I won’t harm you, but that doesn’t mean others won’t. Even with your closest kin, you should remain vigilant.”

This scene was fully captured by the eyes of Lin Heng and Yu Qing, who had just finished deploying the troops and hurried over to join the fun.

Everyone only saw that Xiao Ji had lost his footing atop the tower, and Xiang Yinnian had grabbed him, but somehow they both tumbled down. It happened in the blink of an eye; no one clearly saw the instant before impact or who had actually carried whom to a safe landing.

Lin Heng and Yu Qing were badly frightened. Regarding this Northern Border tower, one could count on one hand the people in the entire Great Yue who could disregard it so casually.

The two rushed to the base of the tower with their hearts in their throats, only to hear the words Xiao Ji had just spoken.

“Master! Are you alright?!” Lin Heng circled Xiang Yinnian several times, asking anxiously.

Xiang Yinnian glanced at Xiao Ji, who imperceptibly shook his head.

Xiang Yinnian’s Adam’s apple bobbed. His fingertips were still trembling, and he couldn’t resist punching Lin Heng to dissipate his own lingering unease.

“Quit your damn wobbling around! My Qinggong has simply improved recently, and I was just taking Wangfei for a spin. What are you panicking for!”

Seeing that Xiang Yinnian was indeed unharmed, Lin Heng’s heart finally settled. He gave Xiang Yinnian a shove that was neither light nor heavy. “You scared the life out of me!”

Standing to the side, Yu Qing said nothing. She only silently scrutinized Xiao Ji for a few moments before retracting her gaze. After steadying her breathing, she clasped her fists toward Xiang Yinnian.

“It is good that Wangye is unharmed. This subordinate will take her leave.”

With that, she turned and left without looking back.

Xiang Yinnian noticed that Yu Qing was acting a bit strange, but he didn’t take it to heart. He simply asked Lin Heng, “What fit is she throwing now? Did you provoke her again?”
