Chapter 24: The Mastermind Behind the Scenes
Hotel Presidential Suite.
Finally finishing the online meeting, Fu Jingchen loosened his tie a bit, his movements carrying a near-violent irritability.
Three consecutive hours of video conferencing; the rising and falling English arguments in his earphones made his ear canals hurt.
He swallowed a mouthful of espresso tiredly. The bitterness spreading in his mouth actually made him relax a bit.
The assistant knocked and entered, seemingly with some joy on his face. “President Fu, you are simply godlike!”
“Found it so easily?” The man pressed his temples slightly with his fingers, unable to hide his exhausted state.
“The foreign investigation yielded nothing. Domestically, we locked onto the opponent’s anonymous account through tracing and cross-comparison. However, investigation showed it was a random fake IP.”
“So?” Not finding the main point at all, the man’s tone already carried anger.
The assistant hurriedly took out a document. “The key lies in the fact that we investigated another anonymous account. Through comparison, we confirmed it had the same behavioral operation trajectory. The target of the opponent’s operation is Ruan Corporation’s senior executive, Ruan Jianming.”
The man’s eyes, usually carrying sharp scrutiny, flashed with a rare stagnation. He took the document from the assistant’s hand and quickly read the investigation content.
Reading the gist of it, he understood the opponent’s intent.
This behavior was obviously the opponent setting a trap for Ruan Jianming, and it was a deadly trap that would make Ruan Jianming lose everything.
Moreover, that person seemed to understand Ruan Jianming very well, calculating that he would be blinded by greed and make the greediest choice. And barring any accidents, the opponent was already at the stage of closing the net.
“Follow-up investigations will continue. Currently, it seems this matter concerns the Ruan Corporation. Do we need to remind Mr. Ruan Jianming?” The assistant observed Fu Jingchen’s expression and asked cautiously.
“No need. Schedule a convenient time for a video call between me and President Ruan.”
His purpose was to assist Ruan Ying’s faction in bringing down Ruan Jianming. Who knew someone had already made a move in the dark, and the methods were even more vicious, leaving Ruan Jianming no way to live.
It seemed the Ruan Corporation’s share structure was going to have a blood exchange.
He didn’t know if the opponent was friend or foe to Ruan Ying, but to him, these underhanded methods targeting NovaVoy undoubtedly came from a malicious competitor.
He was never a busybody, but the Ruan Corporation would be Ruan Yi’s in the future. No mistakes could be made.
Otherwise, she would be sad.
Fu Jingchen explained Ruan Jianming’s current general situation to Ruan Ying in the video call, naturally omitting parts of the truth. After all, not many people knew the identity of NovaVoy’s person in power yet.
“To think it would be like this. Ruan Jianming, this useless thing, actually used shares to gamble on his daydreams.” Ruan Ying’s voice trembled slightly with uncontrollable anger.
After ending the video call, Ruan Ying immediately conducted an in-depth investigation.
Unsurprisingly, there had been a tendency for Ruan Corporation’s scattered shares to be concentratedly acquired more than a few months ago. Multiple shareholders conducted acquisitions, but coincidentally never exceeded the maximum share limit defined in written reports, obviously wanting to operate quietly in the dark.
These shares plus Ruan Jianming’s shares—the conclusion was self-evident.
A mastermind with ulterior motives, stepping on Ruan Jianming’s flesh and blood, would logically become one of the Ruan family’s core shareholders.
Ruan Ying was so angry at this idiot Ruan Jianming that her head hurt. She slammed the investigation report onto the rosewood table, causing papers to fly instantly.
Even this seemed unable to alleviate her anger. She picked up the exquisite tea set she usually cherished and smashed it onto the ground.
The porcelain cup cracked with twisted patterns, fragments splashing everywhere. Amidst ragged breathing, Ruan Ying suddenly froze.
Looking at the mess on the floor, bitterness rose in her throat. The last time she lost control was on the day she learned of Cheng Huaiyuan’s cheating.
“What madness am I suffering from?” She was never someone who couldn’t control her emotions. The frequency of her recent irritability was a bit too high, but the last physical examination showed nothing serious.
Ruan Ying thought it was just her age catching up, making her temper bigger.
The phone screen suddenly lit up on the desktop. The bright wallpaper occupying the entire interface was young Ruan Yi sitting in her arms.
She suddenly remembered her daughter coquettishly caring about her health, throwing herself into her arms to act spoiled. Dense softness rose in her heart.
Ruan Ying took a deep breath and carefully picked up the scattered reports. When the secretary knocked to inquire, her voice had returned to its usual calmness.
“Contact the cleaning staff. Clean it up in ten minutes.”
She seemed to have returned to her previous dignified posture, as if everything just now had never happened. But the blood vessels at the bottom of her eyes were increasingly obvious and terrifying under the light.
The man in the hotel was also in a bad mood. Clearly already very tired, yet he still hadn’t fallen asleep.
Fu Jingchen looked at the chat box on his phone that hadn’t been updated for a long time, his lying body somewhat stiff.
[What are you doing?] The man clicked send.
The contact being messaged didn’t have any text remark, only two very cute emojis: a kitten emoji followed by a heart.
The slightly vibrating phone wasn’t in its owner’s hand.
The mute button was pressed. Distinct long fingers skillfully entered the password belonging to the girl’s phone. Without any hesitation, the received message was deleted in a second.
Ruan Yi stopped halfway through eating. For some reason, her chest suddenly felt a bit tight, and her pink ear tips felt inexplicably hot.
“Can’t eat anymore, Sister? Then give it to me.”
The speaker’s tone was soothing, seemingly carrying bottomless indulgence, comforting Ruan Yi’s somewhat agitated thoughts.
Gu Zhi naturally took the sushi that stopped at the girl’s lips. He lowered his eyes to look at the place bitten by the girl and put the sushi into his mouth.
“I’m a bit uncomfortable.” Ruan Yi never shied away from speaking her mind when with him, nor was she afraid of spoiling his mood.
After all, in her eyes, her brother was always her most loyal servant.
The girl’s voice sounded a bit choked. Gu Zhi’s slender fingers steadily supported the bottom of the grapefruit juice cup, gently delivering the straw to her lips.
When the straw touched the tip of her tongue, Ruan Yi subconsciously pursed her lips, but the back of her neck was gently supported by a hand. “Open your mouth, Sister.” She had to let herself be fed a few sips.
His palm covered Ruan Yi’s forehead to check her temperature, then explored toward her lower abdomen. Very flat. If it were Sister’s period, her tummy would be slightly bulging.
“Today isn’t the period. Where is it uncomfortable? Headache or stomach ache? I’ll rub it for Sister, okay?” His voice was full of worry.
“Not that exaggerated, just a bit of chest tightness.” Ruan Yi removed his paws that were checking everywhere.
Chest tightness? He actually wanted to help rub that too, but if he said it out loud, he would be slapped by Sister.
“Ah Zhi, you even keep track of my period? Really impressive. I’m often delayed; I can’t even remember clearly myself.” Ruan Yi was a bit surprised.
“Delayed with a pattern, very easy to remember.”
Not just the period. He could completely remember and distinguish Sister’s ovulation phase and luteal phase, and very clearly at that.
He could even distinguish clearly which days Ruan Yi’s scent would become more humid and alluring.
If there were a “Who Knows Ruan Yi’s Body Best” competition in this world…
The one getting first place definitely wouldn’t be Ruan Yi herself.
T/n: OMG, this is crazy. This man is insane… damn it. I’m happy that this is just fiction. Ladies and gents, avoid red flags at all costs!!!
