Chapter 25: Deep Confession
Of course, Guo Duoyu refused to call President Shou “Daddy,” and President Shou couldn’t be bothered to pursue the messy trouble caused by his earlier stupidity.
On the surface, the two reconciled, but the distance between them when interacting had unknowingly widened.
Before closing up, Uncle Guo sent Guo Duoyu to a nearby barbecue shop to buy meat skewers and beer. The three closed the shop door and ate a late-night snack around the empty counter.
Uncle Guo warned Guo Duoyu again to just focus on his studies and not mess around with his and Little President Shou’s business; he and Shou Jiaxun could take care of themselves, everyone should stick to their own business and not drag each other down.
Guo Duoyu nodded obediently, glancing sideways at Shou Jiaxun multiple times, but Shou Jiaxun just smiled along without speaking.
President Shou wasn’t being petty; he just felt there was no need to spoil a child too much, especially since Guo Duoyu wasn’t that young.
If “Daddy” was always expected to understand him unilaterally, but he couldn’t understand “Daddy,” then being his dad was too tiring.
The key was that Uncle Guo was too tired.
Calmly facing and dealing with every bad thing is hard, but everyone has to learn to do it. This isn’t a civilized principle, it’s a survival rule. To live a bit better, one must follow the rules.
Shou Jiaxun downed two cups of beer with the skewers, ran to the door to squat and smoke a cigarette, and upon returning, shook out the folding bed to sleep immediately.
After turning off the lights, Guo Duoyu quietly got up and ran to sit by the iron shutter, like standing guard, or like facing the wall to reflect.
He and his dad had been lying at the bottom for eighteen years. Aside from letting his old dad worry less about his studies, he had never practically done a single thing to improve their current living situation.
Not only was he not ashamed, but today he used this laziness that had remained unchanged for over a decade to criticize the efforts Shou Jiaxun and his dad put in.
Simply stupid to the point of being laughable.
Because the shop was too quiet, soon both Uncle Guo and Shou Jiaxun heard faint sniffing sounds.
Uncle Guo sighed faintly in the dark, “Cry. Crying leads to growing up.”
Shou Jiaxun reached out and patted Uncle Guo’s arm lightly twice.
He didn’t know what he was expressing, maybe just wanting to remind the other that there was someone beside him accompanying him in pursuing the ideal of a brand-new life.
The next morning, a few minutes after waking up, Shou Jiaxun received a call from the police station asking him to come over to handle the follow-up issue of “Old Six” attempting to molest him in the tea house.
Uncle Guo told Guo Duoyu to go with him while he went to the wholesale market to stock up.
President Shou waved his hand with a smile to refuse. “Let Guo Duoyu go with you to stock up. I’ll ask Liang Bo to go to the police station with me. He’s my witness. Today is Sunday, he definitely has time.”
But in reality, he didn’t find Liang Bo. He just pretended to call Liang Bo when going out to reassure Uncle Guo and Guo Duoyu.
It was a bit funny to say, but President Shou had saved the numbers of all of Student Liang’s ball buddies in his phone, except for Liang Bo’s number.
Didn’t know if Student Liang was shy or intentionally hiding it.
President Shou arrived at the police station at the agreed time and was received by an Omega officer specifically.
This officer was mainly there to mediate the dispute between him and Manager Liu.
Defining it as a “dispute” wasn’t quite fair to Shou Jiaxun, but the Omega officer showed President Shou a video taken by the enforcement officers at the Cantonese tea house while collecting evidence.
When Liang Bo and his classmates had a physical conflict with Manager Liu in the private room, they knocked into tables and chairs multiple times. Although the table didn’t flip, more than half of the cups, plates, and bowls were swept to the floor.
The liquid residue extracted by police from the teacup fragments was insufficient for drug testing.
Which meant there was no evidence proving Manager Liu added an inducing agent to President Shou’s drink.
Shou Jiaxun’s frequent “fevers” could also be due to endocrine disorders.
So this matter was hard to clear up. Even if a case was filed against Manager Liu, the maximum penalty would be a two hundred yuan fine and three days detention.
He had already been detained for two days. Whether President Shou wanted to reconcile or not, Old Six would regain his freedom within 24 hours.
The Omega officer said, “You still have a shop in that area, and he works there too. If you form a grudge, there’s no guarantee he won’t trouble you in the future.
Why don’t we scare him a bit, you do him a favor, and let this pass?
Best to shake hands and make peace, let him stay away from you in the future. Try not to make enemies over small cases, otherwise, in the long run, it’s really disadvantageous to you.
I know this result is hard for you to accept, but this is the social reality we Omegas are facing.”
Shou Jiaxun looked calm, smiling and nodding. “I accept. Reconciliation is possible, no problem.”
The Omega officer also nodded. “Okay, then I’ll ask my colleague to bring him over. You guys talk?”
“No need. I have a lot of things to do at the shop. If there’s anywhere I need to sign, I’ll sign. If not, I’ll go back first.”
President Shou amiably took the pen and dashingly signed his name on the reconciliation agreement.
The Omega officer praised with a smile, “You write beautifully.”
“Only know how to write these three characters,” President Shou said modestly, taking the initiative to shake hands with the officer to thank him and say goodbye.
Leaving the police station, he turned left and walked fast for fifty meters, entering a pharmacy to buy a box of gland scent-blocking patches, tearing one open on the spot to paste on the back of his neck.
From now on, he would learn from Uncle Guo: never leave the patch off.
When setting up the stall that night, Guo Duoyu had already returned to school. Liang Bo didn’t come, but one of Liang Bo’s classmates did.
Actually, Shou Jiaxun didn’t have much impression of this classmate, but this group of school basketball team guys were too conspicuous in height; it was hard not to recognize them.
So while waving hello, he picked up a ready-made fruit cup and handed it over to treat the other to fruit.
The unknown athlete stood grinning in front of the fruit stall. “Where’s your boyfriend? Not coming to help on the weekend?”
“He came!” Shou Jiaxun looked innocent. “He came Friday night and left this afternoon. His school is relatively far, you see, has to return early.”
Saying this, he raised his hand to point at the patch on the back of his neck. “Bit me until it bled last night, want to see?”
The basketball boy’s brilliant smile froze on his face instantly. His eyes looked desolate. He stared silently at President Shou for two minutes, and finally turned silently and left in a huff.
Uncle Guo stole a moment to come over and touch the blocking patch on the back of his neck. “Why copy me? We’re different; you have many good choices.”
“Picking,” President Shou nodded solemnly, pursing his lips towards the fruit on the stall. “Uncle, look, people shop around for a few peaches, what’s the rush for me?”
“Can’t out-talk you.” Uncle Guo patted his thin shoulder with a doting smile. “Don’t set up the stall tomorrow. Spend some time tidying up the shop, grand opening the day after tomorrow.”
Shou Jiaxun smiled and nodded, then turned and lifted his face vigorously, taking the shop signboard fully into his eyes. “Uncle, turn on the light sign, warm it up.”
Accompanying a faint electric current sound, the blue-background gold-lettered signboard lit up suddenly in the twilight.
Radiant and dazzling.
The LED baseboard matched with retro neon fonts was striking and unique.
Behind the two characters for “Guo Ran” (Indeed/Uncle’s name), there was a small decoration in the shape of a tall wine glass, which looked a bit like an exclamation mark from a distance.
So this signboard… at first glance, really looked a bit like a deep confession full of love!
