【18】A Qualified Ex Should Be Like a Dead Person
Wen Ran’s phone vibrated. It was a message from Jiang Yan.
Asking him to help bring over the USB drive he had left at home.
Since Jiang Yan came to find him last time, Wen Ran thought the matter had been turned over. But unexpectedly, Jiang Yan actually moved back home. He spoke so nicely in front of Song Zixuan: “Brother thinks it’s convenient here too. Sometimes I need to stay up late, and it affects my roommates.”
But as soon as Song Zixuan went back to his room, he looked at Wen Ran with hooked lips: “If I don’t stay with you, how do I cultivate feelings?”
Who wants to cultivate feelings with him?
Wen Ran looked at that message indignantly and swiped left, pretending not to see it.
Ten minutes later, he pushed open the door to Jiang Yan’s room and found the silver USB drive on the desk.
Forget it. Delivering it once counts as repaying him for buying stomach medicine last time.
Wen Ran had always had stomach problems. His stomach was very fragile, and he hadn’t gone to the hospital to check it. Stomach aches were a frequent occurrence.
A few nights ago, it flared up suddenly again. It wasn’t severe, but the dense, twisting pain made Wen Ran unable to straighten up. He clutched his stomach and went to the living room to look for painkillers, his forehead covered in cold sweat.
Jiang Yan came out to get water and happened to see this scene.
“What’s wrong? Stomach uncomfortable?” Jiang Yan said. “There doesn’t seem to be stomach medicine at home.”
Wen Ran gritted his teeth, one hand covering his abdomen. “Can you help me find some painkillers?”
Jiang Yan’s tone instantly turned cold. “You took painkillers before?”
Wen Ran gave a vague “Mmhmm.” Painkillers were cheap. He basically slept after taking them, and when he woke up, the pain was mostly gone.
“Simply nonsense.” Jiang Yan reached out and wrapped his arm around Wen Ran’s waist, lifting him onto the sofa. “Medicine can’t be taken randomly, don’t you know that?”
Wen Ran clutched his stomach, curled up on the sofa looking tiny and extremely aggrieved.
Jiang Yan poured a cup of hot water and handed it to Wen Ran, then started putting on his coat. “Stay here obediently and wait for Brother to come back.”
He was out for about fifteen minutes. When he returned, he had stomach medicine in his hand.
“Drink this.” Jiang Yan fished out a box of medicine and placed it in front of Wen Ran. “One pill at a time is enough.”
“If it doesn’t hurt too much and is just uncomfortable, drink the granules. Granules are traditional medicine and have no side effects.”
Wen Ran held the medicine in his hands, his legs pressed tightly together in constraint. “…Thank you.”
Curse words came almost instantly to his mouth, but saying benevolent words like thank you was always a bit strange.
Mainly because there had been too few instances where he needed help from others. Jiang Yan was probably the person he had said thank you to the most.
“No sincerity at all.” Jiang Yan smiled at him, thinking, How is this sharp-tongued kid so cute? Clearly, his heart is grateful and soft, but his mouth is awkward.
The more he was like this, the more one wanted to tease him.
“How about you call me ‘Good Brother’ for me to hear?”
Wen Ran’s “I’ll treat you to a meal next time” hadn’t even come out before it was abruptly stuffed back by these shameless words.
Wen Ran followed the navigation to the university town. It was bustling inside. Girls, likely from the same dorm going out together, were dressed beautifully, arms linked. The students coming and going all had vibrant faces.
Wen Ran heard them discussing professional terms he couldn’t understand. It was like a chasm separating him from these peers.
Although the university campus was open, Wen Ran didn’t go in. He took out his phone to message Jiang Yan.
[Your Daddy has arrived at the North Gate]
Just as he clicked send, he heard a voice.
“Yo, isn’t this Ran Ran?”
Li Hao looked at him with an appraising look. “Why are you here?”
“None of your business.” Wen Ran didn’t want to see him at all and turned his face away.
Li Hao, however, relentlessly walked up to his side. “Are you here to find me?”
Wen Ran felt nauseous just seeing his face now. “Did you not wake up before going out today, or did you leave your brain behind?”
“Ran Ran, stop being stubborn.” Li Hao reached out and grabbed his wrist, his tone full of mockery. “Besides me, who else do you know who goes to a top-tier university? Now you’re even squatting at our school gate.”
“Such a hot day, how many hours have you been standing?”
“Who came to find you? If you’re sick, go get treated!”
“Still being tsundere,” Li Hao was now convinced Wen Ran had been dumped. “I told you earlier, how could a rich second generation look at you? He just played with you for two days. Only I am willing to pity you. If you’re here to ask for reconciliation this time, buy me a pair of shoes and I’ll agree to forgive the past.”
Wen Ran chuckled. “Sure, then you buy me a cup of taro macchiato first.”
Li Hao was a bit surprised. “You want to drink it?”
“Want your mother.” (Taro/Yu Ni sounds like ‘You’, Macchiato/Ma Qi Duo sounds like ‘Mother’ + Qi Duo. Essentially: Go f*ck your mother).
Li Hao got angry. “Why… why are you cursing?”
Wen Ran glared at him. “Your Daddy is cursing you! If you don’t have water, don’t you have piss? Why don’t you look at yourself and see if you’re worthy!”
He didn’t want to stay with Li Hao for a single second longer. He turned to leave, only to have his wrist grabbed by someone.
His back pressed against a warm chest. Jiang Yan came over and embraced his shoulders. “Who is bullying my kid?”
Li Hao naturally remembered Jiang Yan. After all, this person’s appearance was too outstanding; one couldn’t forget him after seeing him once.
Moreover, having come out in a hurry, he was still wearing his school badge.
Li Hao looked closely—Liqing University?
Liqing University was only a street away from the Yuecai University he attended, but Liqing was a genuine famous school, a gathering of elites, the institution with the highest gold content in the country. Yuecai was just an ordinary first-tier university, completely not on the same level as Liqing.
Wen Ran’s rich second-generation boyfriend was also a straight-A student?
Li Hao was insanely jealous. On what basis could a person like him climb such a high branch?
Intimately nuzzling Wen Ran’s neck, Jiang Yan said, “Sorry Ran Ran, I got delayed by something just now and made you wait so long.”
His somewhat warm breath sprayed on Wen Ran’s neck, making him itch a little.
Why is Jiang Yan getting so into the act now? Like it’s real.
Wen Ran was certain that with a performance like this, absolutely no one would suspect they weren’t a couple.
“Last time was the first meeting, and because of Ran Ran, I gave you face.” Jiang Yan was taller than Li Hao and carried an innate noble temperament; the oppressive force made Li Hao dare not even breathe. “My relationship with Ran Ran is very good. If I hear you speculating randomly again next time, or perhaps, sowing discord between us—”
“Brother doesn’t mind taking the trouble to teach you how to be a human.”
Li Hao lowered his head, submissive and afraid to breathe loudly.
Jiang Yan gently brushed Wen Ran’s hair, his tone icy towards Li Hao: “A qualified ex should be like a dead person.”
