I don’t like your scales CHAPTER 8

Chapter 8: The Broken Appointment

Bai Xuci lay in bed, his mind a complete mess.

(Image: A rabbit suffering from insomnia)

What is going on?

Ever since he’d been transported to this world, it felt like he was living in a horror movie.

Half-demon creatures were everywhere, people spoke in distorted tones, and the palace was bizarre and fantastical.

And…

He springs up from the bed, his face full of resentment.

And there were strange and bizarre demons.

“Ah—” Bai Xuci painfully scratched his head, his soft white hair becoming disheveled, his eyes vacant.

Who would save him? What kind of broken place was this? They’d thrown him here without a word.

He couldn’t do anything, he’d been gnawing on carrots for almost a year.

(His eyes welled up with tears.)

He’d finally made friends with humans and was gradually learning to get along with demons.

Why was he suddenly dragged here again?

(He hung his head, banging it softly against the headboard, his face full of resentment.)

“One carrot, two carrots, three carrots…”

He muttered to himself, a self-soothing method he’d come up with.

Slowly, he felt a bit drowsy, hugging a pillar and closing his eyes.

(His forehead was red.)

He’d probably knocked himself unconscious.

When he woke up, Bai Xuci realized he’d somehow turned back into a rabbit.

Lying in bed, he stretched out his rabbit legs.

He comfortably changed back to human form and sat up.

What was the demon thinking? What did that female demon mean?

Serve? What could he possibly serve?

Bai Xuci patted his clothes, finding a carrot that had fallen to the ground earlier.

He took a bite, feeling a little bored.

He couldn’t return to his rabbit burrow, and he was confined here, with no clear indication of life or death.

As the saying goes, strange things happen for a reason.

Could it be that he wasn’t an ordinary rabbit?!

Bai Xuci seemed to have found another line of thought, and he formally used his cultivation to examine his demon core.

In the void, there lay a perfectly round core.

He poked it, but nothing happened.

Bai Xuci thought that shouldn’t there be a golden crack, and then he would upgrade from a white demon core to a golden demon core?

Wow, golden legend!

But the reality was—

After poking for a long time, there was no reaction, it was still a plain white shell.

Bai Xuci opened his eyes, feeling a bit discouraged.

(He rested his chin in his hand, lost in thought.)

In that case, he couldn’t guess the demon’s intentions.

He was completely worthless, not some world-renowned genius… no, world-renowned demon.

So, was the demon keeping him as a food reserve?

He couldn’t figure it out.

Bai Xuci saw that no one seemed to be taking care of him, so he carefully examined his surroundings.

Apart from the unusual darkness, there was nothing new.

Ghostly flames, which were actually quite ordinary after getting used to them.

He had planned to wait for the female demon named “Fuling” to call for him, but there was no movement.

It seemed she’d completely forgotten about him.

Bai Xuci thought for a moment, stepped out of the room, and decided to observe for himself.

He couldn’t just sit around and wait to die.

There was a pond in the courtyard. He went to look at it and saw a small turtle swimming.

He was amazed.

“There are still such ordinary creatures. Perhaps the demon isn’t a cold-blooded killer?” He muttered to himself.

Bai Xuci lifted a lotus leaf from the pond and gazed at the bottom, lost in thought.

“Bold, you insignificant demon, how dare you use such a disrespectful term for the Lord!” A very old and furious voice boomed.

Bai Xuci immediately straightened up, looking around to find out who was speaking.

But—

“You insolent wretch, you dare to ignore me, how audacious!” The voice was now filled with indignant anger, apparently even more angered by Bai Xuci’s behavior.

After a second or two, Bai Xuci slowly turned around, his eyes widening.

This demon world… really, anything could become a spirit.

“Y-you… hello.”

Seeing that the little demon had finally looked over, the turtle at the bottom of the pond calmed down a little.

“Where did you come from? I’ve never seen you before,” the turtle said in a very elderly tone, clearly positioning itself as a superior being.

Bai Xuci looked down at the turtle stretching its neck, its eyes like green beans, and his eyes went wide again.

It was completely unexpected.

He should have been wary of carrots turning into spirits.

“I came yesterday, I was brought here,” Bai Xuci said sullenly.

He was carried by the scruff of his neck, all four rabbit legs dangling in the air.

Bai Xuci figured it wasn’t a big deal, so he picked up a small pebble and threw it into the pond.

Ripples spread…

The turtle swam closer, thinking that it hadn’t seen any new demons in three hundred years, and feeling a little lonely, so it wanted to talk more.

But as soon as it stretched its neck,

Almost instantly, with a “plop,” it dived into the depths of the pond.

Bai Xuci: “??”

Why did it suddenly disappear without a word?

So impolite!

(He muttered under his breath.)

But at that moment, Bai Xuci frowned slightly and suddenly remembered—

Hadn’t he forgotten something?

“How come you’re still here?” A somewhat indifferent voice came from above.

Bai Xuci’s train of thought was suddenly interrupted, so startled that he almost fell into the pond. He turned around nervously.

Sure enough, the demon was standing behind him.

“L-Lord…” Bai Xuci almost forgot to bow, hurriedly throwing the pebble in his hand.

Some water splashed from the pond, along with a barely audible cry of pain.

After hearing it, Bai Xuci frowned unconsciously and wanted to look back, but—

“Fuling brought you here?”

The voice drew his attention back.

“Ah…”

He nodded in agreement.

Silence returned.

Bai Xuci inexplicably felt that this scene was like running into an old classmate—awkwardly looking for a topic of conversation, yet both remaining silent.

No, the demon didn’t know him.

“Brought here…” the other party repeated.

Then began to examine Bai Xuci from head to toe, with a playful glint in his eyes.

Bai Xuci felt uncomfortable all over, feeling like a young maiden being harassed by a ruffian.

After thinking it over.

“Bang!”

Fan Yue’s face turned black. He’d never seen such a demon.

“What are you doing?”

The originally handsome white-haired “little demon” was gone, replaced by a plain white rabbit.

Sitting quietly.

Very well-behaved.

“Lord, I’ve lost my magical power, so…” Bai Xuci explained perfunctorily.

“Eh!”

His two rabbit ears were unceremoniously grabbed, and Bai Xuci swung in the air.

“…”

A flashback to yesterday.

“Not very pretty.” A bland assessment was delivered.

Bai Xuci’s rabbit head turned incredulously, not understanding the demon’s meaning.

This early in the morning, was he here just to humiliate him??

However, Bai Xuci soon realized that the demon probably hadn’t expected him to still be here.

Because it seemed like he was just passing by.

The place where Fuling, the female demon, had brought him was called “Chen Yuan Dian”—it seemed to be a place for beautiful women.

Why?

Because when the demon took him out, he happened to see Fuling.

When she saw the Lord, her eyes were full of allure, and her figure seemed even more graceful.

Besides Fuling, there were various other female demons, each with a beautiful figure, trying to attract the great demon’s attention.

But when they looked down, they saw the rabbit in the Lord’s hand, and their expressions changed.

Extremely, extremely… envious.

Bai Xuci felt utterly ashamed and struggled again.

“What are you doing again?”

A warning tone.

Bai Xuci obediently stayed in the other’s hand, almost in tears.

His ears were about to be pulled red!

He shouldn’t have transformed, making it so easy to be picked up.

It was just too convenient.

Fan Yue really didn’t expect to see this little rabbit again.

Once on the mountain, and now in the hall. Could this be what humans call fate?

Looking down, his eyes changed.

Between his two fingers, at the base of the ears, several hairs had fallen out.

Bai Xuci was looking at the pebbles on the road, noticing the stiffening of the hand on his ears, and felt a little strange.

So he lifted his rabbit head.

“Lord, is something wrong with my ears?” Bai Xuci’s expression was sincere.

“…”

“Nothing.”

Fan Yue’s expression didn’t change, then he watched as the rabbit suspiciously turned its head.

Had he pulled too hard?

Why had so much fur fallen out…

Although Bai Xuci was very dissatisfied with his appearance, he dared not act up.

After all, he had transformed himself, so he had to put on a brave face through his tears.

“Lord, the Qingyun Sect’s power is growing, and they are even going to hold a Lingyun Grand Ceremony, at which powerful cultivators from the cultivation world will gather. This is a great threat to our demon world.” A demon with a beard said worriedly.

“We, the demon world, should take action!”

“Yes, yes!”

“Humans are indeed despicable and shameless. What are they planning with such a large-scale event?”

Bai Xuci had originally planned to fall asleep, but hearing this discussion, his ears perked up.

He suddenly became energetic.

Although he didn’t understand why the demon had brought him here, this was a rare opportunity to gather information!

The Qingyun Sect, that was Xiao Yunyi’s sect, the protagonist.

In the end, he would attack Linshan and eliminate the great demon, so it couldn’t be ignored.

Oh, speaking of Xiao Yunyi, what was the great demon’s name?

Fan… Fan…

“It’s nothing to worry about.” A calm voice interrupted Bai Xuci’s thoughts.

Fan Yue didn’t care about the actions of those cultivators, but he was more curious about the rabbit on his body.

These ears, they could actually stand up on their own.

Weren’t they always droopy before?

His golden eyes showed no emotion, and he even felt this meeting was unnecessary.

But the great demons below were still discussing, seeming to attach great importance to the Qingyun Sect’s grand ceremony.

Everyone was very concerned and had even thought up a hundred ways to attack the Qingyun Sect.

And on the stage—

Fan Yue looked down at the upright ears and touched one.

But as soon as he touched the soft fur, the left ear automatically flipped and shook, then stood upright again.

His eyebrows slightly raised, his interest piqued.

He simply used his fingers to press down the upright ear.

Bai Xuci was listening attentively, feeling nothing uncomfortable, but the ear, as if it had its own mind, slowly slid out from under the pressing fingers.

It stood upright again.

Fan Yue found the voices of the great demons below very noisy and slightly irritating, but seeing these ears…

He casually used his fingertip to press down the upright ear again.

Bai Xuci found it difficult to hear what was being said, the information was too complex, and he unconsciously took a small step forward, then stretched his rabbit legs and lay on Fan Yue’s lap.

This should be better.

However, the ears popped up again.

Xuanli below: “…”

This little demon had such great ability!

Could it be that the Lord didn’t like him because he didn’t have ears?!

The demons around had been chattering and hadn’t noticed the rabbit the Lord had brought.

But seeing Xuanli staring at one spot, they unconsciously shifted their gaze…

Bai Xuci had been listening attentively, but it suddenly stopped.

Feeling strange, he shrank back, quietly drooping his ears to cover his face.

Hiding himself.

Fan Yue saw that his ears could actually automatically cover his eyes, and he found it even more amazing.

He used his hand to move them away.

They were covered again…

He moved them away again.

They were covered again…

Xuanli looked back, and the demons around had red eyes.

Jealousy filled their hearts.

“…”

It was truly absurd.

Meanwhile, the Jiaoma brothers were resting on their iron forks, and ripples appeared on the boundary gate they were guarding.

Linshan was lush and green, the treetops almost covering the sky.

Some beams of light broke through.

These lights shone on a hidden stream in the woods, and the sound of flowing water could be heard.

In the shadows.

A little fish swam restlessly…
