Chapter 100: I Won’t Go With You
Xie Miaohan initially thought he had heard wrong and looked up.
Seeing Gu Huaiye’s angry face, he froze. The bottle of mineral water in his hand, which was only one-third full, dropped back into the trash can.
He hadn’t expected Gu Huaiye to be here.
To prevent Gu Huaiye from finding him, Xie Miaohan had run in one direction for a long time, reaching a completely unfamiliar environment.
He remembered the location of their home clearly.
He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to resist going back, so he only dared to stop once he had run to a place where he couldn’t find the way home.
Gu Huaiye thoroughly hated him and was going to give him away to someone else.
He didn’t have a home anymore. Going back would only cause trouble for his brother.
“Xie Miaohan, get the fuck over here.” Filled with rage, Gu Huaiye gritted his teeth. “Did I bring you to District A to be a beggar?”
Since adopting Xie Miaohan, Gu Huaiye had tried hard to break the habit of swearing.
But right now, he really couldn’t hold it back.
He had brought Xie Miaohan to District A hoping that Xie Miaohan could live well and have a complete and happy childhood.
But now Xie Miaohan was eating other people’s leftover food, living even worse than he had in District H.
When Gu Huaiye saw it, his heart hurt so much he could hardly breathe.
Xie Miaohan lowered his head, daring neither to speak nor to approach Gu Huaiye.
“Come here,” Gu Huaiye said. “We’ll talk when we get back.”
Xie Miaohan didn’t move, so Gu Huaiye stepped forward to pull him.
But then, Xie Miaohan turned and ran again.
Gu Huaiye clenched his teeth and chased after him.
He hadn’t eaten for two days and had no strength. Suddenly, someone came riding a bicycle. Gu Huaiye didn’t dodge in time and was knocked to the ground.
Hearing the noise behind him, Xie Miaohan quickly stopped and looked back.
“Brother!” Xie Miaohan ran back and supported Gu Huaiye’s arm. “Brother, are you okay?”
Gu Huaiye felt dizzy and couldn’t answer immediately.
Xie Miaohan looked up, glaring with red eyes at the man riding the bicycle, then lunged at him, punching him.
“How do you ride a bike? Are you blind?” Xie Miaohan cursed while crying. “You hurt my brother! I won’t let you get away with this! You’re dead!”
The smell on Xie Miaohan was really bad. The man dodged backward, but Xie Miaohan chased after him and continued hitting him.
He was young, but his hits really hurt.
Gu Huaiye had recovered by now. He stood up and hugged Xie Miaohan.
“Alright, he didn’t mean to. I wasn’t watching where I was going.” Gu Huaiye looked at the man with an apologetic expression. “Sorry to have caused you trouble.”
“Do you want to go to the hospital to check it out? I’ll pay for the medical expenses.”
Gu Huaiye shook his head. “It’s just a scrape. It’s fine. Don’t worry, I won’t scam you.”
Only after the man confirmed repeatedly that Gu Huaiye was fine did he pick up his bicycle and leave.
“Let’s go. Let’s go home,” Gu Huaiye said, his voice exhausted.
Xie Miaohan suddenly squatted down and blew on the wound on Gu Huaiye’s knee.
“Brother, I’m sorry.” Tears fell from Xie Miaohan’s eyes, his voice choked with sobs. “I always cause you trouble.”
Gu Huaiye smiled. “Next time, don’t run away as soon as you get emotional. I can’t catch you at all. Let’s go home; you need a bath.”
“Brother, go back by yourself. I won’t go with you. I can take care of myself.”
The smile on Gu Huaiye’s face froze. His expression darkened, and he said angrily, “Picking up trash to eat counts as taking care of yourself? Do you like being a beggar that much?”
This sentence provoked Xie Miaohan.
He looked up, tear streaks on his face, and shouted emotionally, “I just like being a beggar! I like being a thief too! That way, not only can I feed myself, but I also don’t have to worry about being abandoned!”
Gu Huaiye was stunned.
Remembering what he had said two days ago, a trace of panic crossed his face, and he hurriedly explained to Xie Miaohan.
“I didn’t mean to abandon you. I wanted to give you a better living environment. That uncle is a very nice person. If you get adopted by him, you can eat whatever you want, and you’ll have the toys everyone envies.”
“You just don’t want me!” Xie Miaohan cried. “You just hate me, so you want to drive me away. Brother, you’re a big liar. You clearly promised me you wouldn’t abandon me. We even pinky-swore. You don’t keep your word. You’re a bad guy.”
“I didn’t want to abandon you, really! And it’s not like we’d never see each other again. If you missed me, you could come find me to play anytime.”
Xie Miaohan turned his face away, refusing to make eye contact with Gu Huaiye.
“Brother, go. I don’t want to go to that uncle’s house. I can support myself.” Xie Miaohan pointed to the trash can not far away. “There’s lots of delicious food in there. I’ve been away from home for two days and haven’t gone hungry at all.”
Gu Huaiye didn’t dare look at the trash can he pointed to.
Just looking at it brought the image of Xie Miaohan eating trash to his mind.
“Miaomiao, Brother was wrong.” Gu Huaiye took the initiative to hold Xie Miaohan’s hand. “I won’t send you away. I promise you. Let’s go home, okay?”
“You’re lying.” Xie Miaohan choked back a sob and whispered, “You don’t want me at all.”
“I don’t.” Gu Huaiye squatted down, his tone gentle. “How could I not want Miaomiao? I only have Miaomiao as family. I just want to stay with you forever.”
Xie Miaohan seemed convinced by Gu Huaiye and finally agreed to look at him.
“Really?” Xie Miaohan asked uneasily. “What if Brother is lying to me?”
Gu Huaiye frowned, thinking about how to answer.
“Brother, if you’re unhappy, just hit me or scold me,” Xie Miaohan said. “I’ll listen to you and work hard to become someone you’re proud of.”
Hearing this, Gu Huaiye felt a bitter taste in his heart.
He hugged Xie Miaohan. “I’m sorry.”
He shouldn’t have had such high expectations for Xie Miaohan.
Bad habits could be corrected slowly. He only prayed for Xie Miaohan to live happily.
Xie Miaohan followed Gu Huaiye back.
Originally, the bus driver refused to take them because Xie Miaohan smelled too bad, but he couldn’t resist Gu Huaiye’s good attitude as he kept bowing and apologizing.
After getting on the bus, Gu Huaiye held Xie Miaohan’s hand and stood by the door. He didn’t dare sit on the seats, afraid of causing trouble for others.
“Brother, do I smell really bad? Am I embarrassing you?”
Gu Huaiye smiled at him.
“No. I like Miaomiao the most. I won’t feel embarrassed.”
Xie Miaohan was very happy and responded, “I like Brother the most too.”
That night, Xie Miaohan sneaked into Gu Huaiye’s room while he was asleep.
He lifted the quilt, found Gu Huaiye’s left hand, and put the gold bracelet on it.
Mom said, you can give the bracelet to the most important person.
