Part 3
When the grown-up protagonist Gong mentioned this past event, he referenced another matter: the day after their spaceship accident, a very major event also occurred on the Capital Star.
After long-term oppression, the Half-Beasts had privately organized a Half-Beast Alliance.
But in recent months, rumors had spread from somewhere that the abilities of half-beasts could enhance spiritual power. This made the situation of half-beasts increasingly difficult; many were auctioned off or kept in private captivity.
So, the Leader and Vice-Leader of the Half-Beast Alliance decided to launch a protest to win a chance of respite for the half-beasts.
Ultimately, this resistance ended in a disastrous defeat for the half-beasts.
There were fifty members in the Half-Beast Alliance. In the end, more than half died. The Leader died tragically. Apart from the Vice-Leader who managed to escape by luck, the rest were captured.
The protagonist Gong didn’t say what happened to them, but it presumably wasn’t good.
The reason the protagonist Gong mentioned it specifically was that when he grew up, the Half-Beast Alliance rose again, and the person serving as the Leader was that very Vice-Leader who had escaped back then.
Not only that, the Half-Beast Alliance later saved Ning Xingyao from danger several times.
In the end, it was this Leader who collected the bodies of him and Elias.
Ning Xingyao and Elias also became members of the Half-Beast Alliance later on.
The protagonist Shou sympathized with these half-beasts at the bottom of society, so when he heard this, he lamented that if the Half-Beast Alliance hadn’t been wiped out back then, perhaps they would have achieved success ten years earlier.
Because it involved Ning Xingyao, Ning Yunyi remembered it very clearly.
So, looking at the timeline, was tomorrow night the night the Half-Beast Alliance would be wiped out?
Ning Yunyi recalled Big Brother Ning mentioning that when he saved Elias and his brother, those people used special nets specifically designed for half-beasts.
Once a half-beast was netted, it was very difficult to escape, leaving them at the mercy of others.
Ning Yunyi’s expression was grave. He didn’t know the specific time tomorrow night, but fortunately, he knew it was in District A of the Capital Star.
He could only look around after dark. Since it was such a big operation, it was impossible for there to be no commotion at all.
After figuring this out, Ning Yunyi exhaled lightly, closed his wristband, and measured the Big Cat’s temperature again. It had dropped a tiny bitānot much, but at least it was dropping.
When Ning Yunyi approached, the Big Cat opened its eyes alertly. Seeing it was Ning Yunyi, it relaxed again and even actively rubbed against Ning Yunyi’s palm.
Perhaps because he was truly uncomfortable, he was unusually listless and wanted comfort.
Ning Yunyi thought for a moment, pinched the pointed ears with pity, bent down, and simply picked the Big Cat up.
Zong Hao had been drowsy, his mind foggy from the medicine. Suddenly being suspended in the air gave him a fright, but the next moment, he was lying on the soft bed again.
Zong Hao: ??
The next moment, the quilt was pulled over him. He opened his eyes to see the little milk cat sleeping on its back with limbs sprawled in the middle, and opposite him was Ning Yunyi with his eyes closed.
Ning Yunyi spoke with his eyes closed, “Sleep.”
Zong Hao instinctively closed his eyes. Belatedly and dazedly, he realizedāhow did I end up up here again?
And… carried up like that.
Another reason was added to his little notebook on why his identity absolutely could not be known by Ning Yunyi.
When Ning Yunyi woke up the next day, the first thing he met was the complex, hesitant look in the kitten cub’s emerald beast eyes.
Still a bit groggy, he leaned over and kissed the little guy on the forehead.
He noticed the little guy take a deep breath. Looking closely, he realized that he was currently hugging the Big Cat across the little guy.
Ning Xiaomiao was squeezed completely between a person and a cat.
Initially, he couldn’t move his paws, and afraid of waking them, he had lain there obediently.
As Ning Yunyi leaned in to kiss him, Ning Xiaomiao experienced a “suffocating” fatherly love early in the morning.
Truly suffocating. Father, the cub can’t breathe.
Ning Yunyi burst out laughing. He quickly backed away and rubbed the kitten cub’s fur. “Did Father squeeze the cub while sleeping? Next time, wake Father up, okay?”
The kitten cub shook his head and rubbed affectionately against Ning Yunyi’s neck.
Only then did Ning Yunyi remember the silent Big Cat. He reached out to touch him and sighed in relief; he didn’t feel very hot anymore.
After measuring, sure enough, it had dropped to just slightly above normal. After taking some medicine today, it should be fine by tonight.
Ning Yunyi saw that the Big Cat, who had opened his eyes upon hearing the commotion but was still drowsy, patted him gently to let him continue sleeping.
He took Ning Xiaomiao to wash up. When they came out, the Big Cat walked out of the room, tail swaying.
He followed closely, looking much more energetic.
This was the Ning house, and there were no outsiders for the time being, so Ning Xiaomiao didn’t transform back.
When the one person and two cats arrived at the front courtyard, Professor Ning and Big Brother Ning were already up. Big Brother Ning had to report to the military later, and Professor Ning had to go to work.
When it was about time, the father and two sons went out together. Ning Yunyi left the two pets at home again, feeding the Big Cat medicine before leaving.
Ning Yunyi then flew the spaceship toward the Fourth Underground City.
When Ning Yunyi arrived at the food district, people were lined up outside the two branch stores. They were obviously returning customers from yesterday’s opening.
When Ning Yunyi reached the door, inside, City Lord Bai and Young Master Bai were personally grilling skewers in full swing.
Standing beside them were people staring unblinkingly, learning how to grill, swallowing saliva desperately from time to time.
Over at the braised meat section, City Lord Xi was supervising personally, staring so intently that he didn’t even notice another person beside him.
City Lord Xi turned his head subconsciously, then whipped it back. “Mr. Bai!”
Ning Yunyi waved his hand. “I’m fine, just came to take a look. I had something to do yesterday and didn’t come. No problems with the opening, right?”
City Lord Xi shook his head. “No, no. Oh my, Mr. Bai, you don’t know how explosive it was yesterday. The line almost went on until midnight.”
The quantity of braised meat was fixed, so it sold out quickly.
But the skewers kept going until long after dark, and they only managed to close the shop early by stopping the queue.
City Lord Xi rubbed his hands. “Mr. Bai, seeing how good business is, how about… we change the other stores into skewer and braised meat shops too?”
He regretted only adding two stores initially. If he had known it would be this explosive, he would have filled the whole street.
Ning Yunyi had agreed initially to contact people in District A to rescue Professor Ning. Now, thinking of the uncertain situation in the palace, being high-profile wasn’t a good thing.
Ning Yunyi shook his head. “Just keep the two for now. You can cut off the line ahead of time.”
Although City Lord Xi was regretful, he followed Mr. Bai’s wishes. After all, these two stores had already raised the foot traffic of their Fourth City to a new level.
After ensuring there were no issues, Ning Yunyi went next door to greet the father and son working enthusiastically, then left.
He had to go back to District F to prepare for the broadcast and bring lunch back.
He had to stay in District A one more night tonight to sneak out and see if he could encounter the people from the Half-Beast Alliance.
When Ning Yunyi returned with the food after his broadcast, the Big Cat was mostly recovered and was playing kick-the-rattan-ball with the kitten cub in the yard.
However, having been seriously ill, he was a bit listless. Seeing Ning Yunyi walk over, he flicked his tail.
Ning Yunyi patted his head naturally and teased him on purpose, “What, getting lazy? Don’t tell me you want me to carry you in front of the cub?”
Zong Hao, who was expressing gratitude for Ning Yunyi’s care: ?? What is he talking about?
The kitten cub stopped, looked up with his little head, and suddenly grinned: So Cat-Cat is even clingier to Father than me.
When Professor Ning came back from work in the evening, his mood was much better than when he left. He announced good news: “A message was left for me from the palace saying there’s news on my application. I can enter the palace in three days.”
Ning Yunyi and Big Brother Ning exchanged a glance, their eyes full of surprise. This was truly good news.
