Chapter 82: Treating Him Will Be Much Easier
“Why is your face so pale?”
From the moment Li Xuanyue stepped her right foot into Xihe Hall, Hua Shan noticed the pallor of her complexion and couldn’t help but frown.
“Did you not rest well last night?” he asked with concern. “Someone, go summon the Imperial Physician!”
“There is no need, Father.”
Li Xuanyue raised her eyes to look at Hua Shan and calmly rejected his kindness. “Your daughter has come to ask Father a question. I hope Father can answer truthfully!”
Seeing her solemn expression, Hua Shan assumed she wanted to ask about Xiao Han again. Dissatisfaction instantly rose in his heart.
“Must you come here early in the morning just to make your father angry?”
Hadn’t he explained everything clearly yesterday? Why was this child being so stubborn in front of him?
This conversation, where the head of a bull was being matched with the mouth of a horseātalking at cross purposesāfinally made Li Xuanyue realize something.
“Angry about what?” She looked at Hua Shan in confusion.
“The poison in your daughter’s body was cured entirely thanks to Uncle,” Li Xuanyue said calmly. “Does Father not intend to let your daughter meet Uncle? To thank him in person?”
Li Xuanyue’s question stumped Hua Shan. He hadn’t expected she came because of Hua Sang. He had misunderstood.
His face turned awkward. “We will discuss that later.”
Then, a strange look rose in his eyes, as if he didn’t want to continue on this topic. “Your Uncle left just yesterday. When there is a chance in the future, Father will arrange for you two to have a proper meeting.”
Given Hua Sang’s current broken and withered state, Hua Shan did not want to reveal him to anyone. Especially not to Li Xuanyue. He feared she would feel heartbreak and guilt if she learned certain truths.
A sharp light flashed in Li Xuanyue’s eyes. She had anticipated Hua Shan would answer this way. Instead of retreating, she became more aggressive.
“But… your daughter checked yesterday. There is no record of anyone leaving the Phoenix Clan.”
Her bright eyes stared intently at Hua Shan.
She used the matter of her uncle as a pretext to find out if Lang Hua’s disappearance was also Hua Shan’s doing. Without a good excuse or reason, she couldn’t act recklessly in Xihe Hall. Unless she had concrete evidence proving Lang Hua’s disappearance was related to Hua Shan, she could only probe indirectly like this.
Hua Shan frowned. He hadn’t expected Li Xuanyue to handle matters so quietly now, even conducting random checks on the Phoenix Clan’s exit records.
Clearly, she was suspecting him, her own father!
Hua Shan’s heart was truly a mix of five flavors right now. Even his gaze toward Li Xuanyue held a complex emotion. It seemed she hadn’t taken a single word he said yesterday to heart.
Had he known this, he shouldn’t have personally sent Xiao Han to her side, saving her the trouble of tracing the investigation directly to his hall.
“Your Uncle was sent away secretly by your father,” Hua Shan lied without blushing or skipping a beat. “There wouldn’t be an exit record in the Phoenix Clan. If you don’t believe me, you can ask your Mother Empress.”
In the end, Hua Shan didn’t forget to drag Li Feng into it to quickly dispel the suspicion in Li Xuanyue’s heart.
Li Xuanyue was startled. “Mother knows about this too?”
Usually, Li Feng came and went like a shadow. She wouldn’t personally inquire about what happened between the sisters unless someone reported it or the clan elders pointed out their faults directly. Only then would she send someone to ask what was happening. Most of the time, they barely saw her shadow.
That Hua Shan would inform her about the poisoning was truly beyond Li Xuanyue’s expectations.
Could it be that Lang Hua’s disappearance really has nothing to do with Father?
Li Xuanyue’s gaze toward Hua Shan became complicated and thoughtful.
Although Li Xuanyue wasn’t Hua Shan’s biological daughter, he had raised her from childhood. He could guess somewhat what she was thinking.
“Your poisoning is a major event,” he said seriously. “Your Mother Empress has the right to know. Why wouldn’t Father let her know?”
Except for the matter of Hua Sang which he kept from Li Feng, he told her almost everything else.
“Furthermore, just before your Mother left, she told Father she wants to have another child with me.”
This single event wasn’t enough to quickly divert Li Xuanyue’s attention, so Hua Shan went with the flow and threw out the idea of having another child right in front of her. He just didn’t want her to keep pestering him about the previous matter.
“I expect it won’t be long before your Mother is pregnant.”
This string of replies was enough to shock Li Xuanyue deeply. She hadn’t expected that in this second life, everything would start to become different.
In her previous life, Li Feng and Hua Shan only had her as a child until their deaths. They never had any thought of a second child. But in this life, since her return, everything was constantly shifting.
Was it because of her rebirth that the trajectory of the past life was changing?
Seeing her silence, Hua Shan thought she couldn’t accept the fact. His eyes filled with doting affection.
“Rest assured, even if your Mother gives birth to a sister like you, or a brother, Father and your Mother will definitely love you the most.”
Hua Shan promised vehemently in front of Li Xuanyue. That child would merely be a means to help Hua Sang recover the chance to be a father that he had lost all those years ago.
“Father worries too much.”
Snapping back to reality, Li Xuanyue looked up at Hua Shan, her eyes earnest and clear. “If Mother has a child, your daughter will only be happier. Why would I care if their birth takes away my things?”
“They will be so small. Even if they really want something, I would hand it over to them with both hands. I won’t fight with them.”
Li Xuanyue’s words brought great comfort to Hua Shan’s heart.
“Rest assured, what is yours will always be yours. They won’t fight you for it!”
And they couldn’t possibly fight you for it!
Although Hua Shan didn’t say the last sentence aloud, he repeated it silently in his heart.
He was considering having a child with Li Feng solely to restore Hua Sangās will to live.
Years ago, after Li Feng gave birth, Hua Sang left without even looking at the child. Now that he had returned, harmed by Hua Shan into a body full of injuries, he lacked the will to survive despite the life-saving pills and precious medicines.
If he and Li Feng had a child of their own, he could give that child to Hua Sang to raise. Letting him interact with the child every day would give him an anchor in his heart. He surely wouldn’t think of leaving this world so easily then.
Treating him would be much easier.
