Chapter 27: Forced into Susceptibility Period.
On the way from the training ground to the administration building, Tang Tianhao kept pondering his current situation.
First, Xie Chengfeng had ordered him to report Xie Ren’s situation at any time. Second, Xie Ren didn’t seem to like him. Third, the new instructor happened to be his former blind date.
Any single point, if picked out, was dramatic enough to rival an online miniseries.
His urgent task was to get closer to Xie Ren, then report back to Xie Chengfeng.
As for the shortcut to getting closer, he had to start with this former blind date.
Judging from the students’ teasing attitude, their stance toward Yu Shi should be subtle and dissatisfied.
This was within his expectations. How could that Omegaâwho looked delicate but was actually arrogantâpossibly tame these hot-blooded Alphas?
He let out a mocking laugh, gradually finding a breakthrough point.
Yu Shi was correcting papers when an improper voice suddenly sounded above his head.
“Hello everyone, I am the new Staff Officer, Tang Tianhao.”
He looked up. Tang Tianhao stared at him provocatively, speaking in a weird, sarcastic tone. “Yo, isn’t this an old acquaintance? Haven’t seen you for a while. Looks like you’re doing quite well.”
Li Yangâs hand, raised to greet him, stopped halfway as he asked in confusion, “Staff Officer Tang, do you and Instructor Yu know each other?”
“More than just know each other.” Tang Tianhao sneered. “I reckon I won’t forget Instructor Yu in this lifetime. Don’t know if he feels the same. Hmph.”
Yu Shi frowned slightly and said coldly, “There should be many people Staff Officer Tang can’t forget. I’m the opposite; I often forget insignificant people.”
Aside from showing a little surprise initially, he showed no other emotion.
This dismissive attitude was like treating a stray dog by the roadside, not deigning to show any reaction at all.
Tang Tianhao’s breathing became rapid, somewhat angered by the hidden barbs in his words.
Li Yang looked back and forth between them in confusion, then pointed to the desk next to Yu Shi. “Staff Officer Tang, that seat is yours. If you don’t want to sit there, you can switch with me.”
“No need. I’ll sit right here.” Tang Tianhao sat down heavily, glaring viciously at Yu Shi.
Yu Shi didn’t look at him again and continued correcting Xu Bohan’s thesis. The atmosphere in the office was eerie.
At dinner time, Li Yang invited Tang Tianhao to the cafeteria.
Tang Tianhao scoffed, “I just arrived not long ago and want to bond more with the students. I’ll eat with them tonight. To be honest, although we are faculty, we shouldn’t put on airs too much. After all, every student here is a future officer of the Republic.”
His implication of scolding one thing while pointing at another was obvious. Li Yang laughed dryly twice.
After he left, Li Yang couldn’t help complaining, “Why does he speak in such a pretentious way? I heard he used to serve the Chief at K9. I’ve seen it now; he’s completely an old slicker who changes his tune depending on the person. By the way, how do you two know each other?”
Yu Shi pressed his brow, saying with a headache, “Blind date.”
“Blind date? You, you…” Li Yang’s eyes widened, his soul of gossip burning fiercely.
“Stop. Don’t ask. You go eat.” Yu Shi didn’t want to bring it up again.
“Aren’t you going? Overtime again?”
“Too many student papers. Can’t finish without overtime.”
Li Yang couldn’t help sighing with emotion. “Back in university, if I had met a mentor as responsible as you, I would have woken up laughing from my dreams! You even helped them polish the subheadings one by one. Xu Bohan said the title he wrote, after you revised it, looked like a pile of dog poop inlaid with gold borders. You really treat them too well.”
Yu Shi laughed. “Who taught him to say that?”
“Hehe, rough words but the logic holds. I’ll bring you food. What do you want to eat?”
Yu Shi listed a few dishes. After Li Yang left, he got up to drink some water and vaguely felt his body heating up.
The air conditioning temperature was low. He continued correcting papers. Ten minutes later, that agitated heat became more intense. He undid a button and took a breath, only then realizing the heat symptoms had come again.
To happen so frequently like this.
He hesitated for a moment, then opened his communicator and sent a message to Xie Ren, urging him to hand in his homework faster.
Cafeteria dining area.
Tang Tianhao held his tray and joined the Alphas who were talking.
“May I sit here?”
As soon as he arrived, everyone stopped talking.
Xie Ren raised an eyebrow indifferently. “Sit.”
Although he didn’t like Tang Tianhao, he wouldn’t go so far as to insult someone’s dignity, so he didn’t engage in exclusionary clique behavior. The others’ attitudes toward him were reasonably friendly.
Zhao Yi took the initiative to say, “I heard Staff Officer Tang used to be at K9. Is the food there better than here?”
Tang Tianhao smiled. “Can’t say it’s much better. The daily meal allowance is divided by rank. For someone like me, the minimum standard is one hundred a day. I actually don’t know much about the cafeteria; I was more responsible for VIP reception.”
“VIP? Foreign guests?”

As he spoke, he exposed his true nature, unconsciously taking on a tone of bragging.
Zhao Yi curled his lip. “Wow, truly extravagant.”
Ye Bingyang laughingly scolded, “You kid have the nerve to call it extravagant? Can’t compare to you staying one night in a hotel.”
Zhao Yi shrugged silently and stopped chatting with Tang Tianhao.
Tang Tianhao sensed that this table was full of young masters who looked down on the petty things he was showing off, so he shrewdly changed the topic.
“I heard Summer Training is strictly managed this time. Not only do you have to watch the evening news, but there are roll calls and self-study. Is your study pressure very high usually?”
These words hit the sore spot of the male college students. Everyone showed expressions of grievance.
Xu Ze said, “More than just high, I’m about to be tortured crazy! I haven’t been to Tuberose all month, don’t even know the name of the new bartender. Simply got destroyed by Instructor Yu.”

“Do you think I know? Is that a question for humans?”
Tang Tianhao revealed a predictable smile. As expected, Yu Shi was an especially annoying Omega.
He said sagely, “Seems Yu Shi hasn’t changed. He still likes to bully subordinates as always. I’ve never seen an Omega more difficult than him.”
As soon as the words fell, the air instantly went quiet.
Xie Ren put down his chopsticks to scrutinize him. The others all looked at him too.
“You know him?” Xie Ren asked.
Tang Tianhao spoke freely, “More than know him. I dated him.”
The atmosphere fell into silence again. The people in the cafeteria had mostly left; only a few scattered tables remained.
This silence seemed eerie. Tang Tianhao felt weird, like something wasn’t quite right.
“Dated?” Xie Ren smiled without humor. “Dated what?”
Tang Tianhao cleared his throat. “Dated romantically. You know the Database, right? We met through matchmaking.”
“I suspect he’s a defective Omega. Supposedly he matched for years without finding anyone suitable. It just so happened my compatibility with him was quite high, so we tried contact for a while. This person, he’s arrogant, loves to put on airs, and flirts around outside. He’s loose and fickle, dating several people behind my back simultaneously.”
He spoke vividly, grafting flowers onto wood (fabricating details) with dancing eyebrows.
The eyes of the others darted around, looking at him with complex expressions. Xie Ren’s face grew colder and colder, gloomy enough to be terrifying.
Tang Tianhao didn’t notice and continued, “Not only that, he’s very stingy. Several times I treated him to meals. A total gold-digging O. I…”
“How long did you date?” Xie Ren interrupted.
“Not long, just… over a month. Fortunately, I discovered his true colors in time…”
“Specifically how many days? Starting from which month?”
Tang Tianhao stammered, “Uh, seems like from when he just came to NDU. I can’t remember clearly.”

Tang Tianhao instantly broke into a sweat. He had just been spouting nonsense, thinking he could resonate with them and badmouth Yu Shi together. He didn’t expect Xie Ren to dig to the bottom.
He laughed awkwardly. “You’re taking this too seriously. If you don’t believe it, forget it. Eat, eat.”
Xie Ren raised his hand and slammed his bowl onto the tray, leaning back with his arms crossed.
The sudden loud noise scared Tang Tianhao into a shiver.
Xie Ren had no intention of letting it go, staring at him like a venomous snake. “Eating doesn’t seem to plug your mouth. Looks like you haven’t eaten enough.”
Tang Tianhao didn’t understand his meaning. The next second, Xie Ren dumped the leftovers from his plate into Tang’s plate with a crash, then lifted his chin at the others.
Everyone tacitly picked up their plates and poured all the leftovers and bone scraps into his bowl. In moments, the garbage piled up into a small mountain.
Tang Tianhao began to tremble, his hair standing on end uncontrollably.
Xie Ren sneered. “Eat, Staff Officer Tang. Finish all of this for me.”
Everyone watched him silently. The other tables looked over too, but no one came out to stop it.
Although Tang Tianhao’s rank wasn’t high at K9, he was still a Second Lieutenant. He had never suffered such public humiliation.
He almost died of shame and anger, trembling as he said, “Commander Xie, don’t push people too far! What did I do wrong for you to treat me like this?”
Xie Ren offered no explanation. His dark eyes frosted over as he said only three words: “I said eat.”
Oppressive pheromones belonging to an S+ Alpha lunged at his face. The high concentration of rich Peppermint Wine scent, the impact of the alcohol like a tsunami sweeping over, caused even the S-ranks nearby to frown and dodge.
This pheromone was too domineering. Tang Tianhao couldn’t move a muscle, instantly collapsing onto the dining table.
Blood sprayed from his nose and mouth. His entire body twitched uncontrollably, as if someone was strangling his throat. He was in so much pain he couldn’t even howl.
He gasped wheezingly, like a fish on a chopping board, without even the time to react or flee.
Zhao Yi pressed his throbbing temples and managed to voice out, “…Hey, Staff Officer Tang, I say just eat it obediently. Don’t provoke this Living Ancestor, or no one can save you.”
Xie Ren looked at him with eyes reserved for the dead. “Before morning drills tomorrow, I want to see you kneeling at the door of Instructor Yu’s office. If you aren’t there, I will make you wish you were dead even more than now.”
He said to the others, “Watch him finish.”
Then he left without looking back.
As the pheromones gradually faded, Tang Tianhao finally came back to life, feeling like he had died once. His eyes revealed profound terrorâthe fear of a high-ranking Alpha carved into his marrow.
His face was ashen, hands and feet shaking like a sieve, unable to utter a single word.
“Eat quickly, Staff Officer Tang,” Zhao Yi said expressionlessly.
Only then did Tang Tianhao realize in hindsight what Xie Chengfeng’s seemingly joking remark meantâ
“By the way, don’t let him find out, and don’t make him angry. Otherwise, I can only collect your corpse.”
Xie Ren didn’t leave the cafeteria immediately. After seeing Yu Shi’s message, he intercepted the food Li Yang had packed for him and went to the back kitchen to add a mango mousse cake.
The squad leader of the cooking team teased, “You’ve eaten here for so many years and never ordered cake. Why the change in taste recently?”
“Bringing it to the instructor.” Xie Ren’s dark expression softened slightly.
“Is it that new, spirited instructor? I’ll give him a banana milkshake, just made.”
“Thanks. He likes milkshakes.”
Xie Ren took the takeout box, looking nothing like he had just lost his temper and nearly blew out the cafeteria windows.
He carried the box to deliver the meal to Yu Shi. By now, the administration building had emptied for the day; everywhere was dark except for the third floor.
Just as he reached the staircase, his face suddenly changed dramatically.
A scent of flowers bordering on eerie wafted through the airâlike orchid but not orchid, like cherry but not cherry, like a mixture of many floral scents.
The smell wasn’t strong. That faint, elusive fragrance seemed to weave a beautiful net in the air, dense and fine like spider silk, pervasive, vowing to ensnare everyone who smelled it.
The moment Xie Ren smelled it, he reacted almost uncontrollably.
Total loss of control.
In his twenty-three years of life, he had never experienced such an indescribable feeling. It was like a program set in his genetic chain; a single symbol was enough to trigger primal instincts.
Mania, heat, anxiety, rage.
All kinds of maddening negative emotions flooded his heart wildly. Darkness and irritability devoured him whole. With red eyes, he rushed to the door of the third floor in two or three steps. That floral scent became even richer, clawing marks into his heart like cat claws.
Painful and itchy, unbearable, accompanied by an impulse to disregard everything.
Sweat instantly soaked his hair and dripped into his eyes. The sting restored a bit of his sanity, realizing his body was undergoing some drastic change.
He leaned against the wall panting violently, forcefully suppressing the desire to rush in. Hands trembling, he called Chen Qingming.
“Doctor Chen, come to the third floor of the administration building quickly,” he gasped, veins bulging on his neck, extremely strained. “Instructor Yu is in heat.”
Chen Qingming exclaimed, “What? I’m coming right over!”
A suppressed, hoarse voice came from the other end: “Wear… a protective suit. I’ve been forced into my susceptibility period.”
Chen Qingming was so shocked he couldn’t speak. One had to know, due to different genetic compositions, only Omegas could be forced into heat. For Alphas, it was almost unheard of; not even textbooks recorded it. Before he could ask, the call hung up.
Xie Ren furrowed his brows tight, suppressing the rampaging pheromones with all his might. His skin turned scorching hot. Something was ready to burst from his glands and the tips of his teeth, urgently seeking an outlet.
He gritted his teeth and roared through the door, “Yu Shi!”
No one answered.
“Yu Shi! Are you still awake?”
Still silent.
Damn it.
Did he faint?
He took a deep breath, pulled out his portable reconnaissance dagger, and slashed his own arm. The piercing pain sobered him abruptly, pulling him briefly out of the chaos and back to reality.
Holding his breath, he pushed the door open and entered. He saw Yu Shi lying motionless on the desk.
