Part 2
The village official, angry at their lack of ambition, listened to the forceful responses from the crowd one after another, then smiled fawningly at Lu Feng.
“They aren’t educated, just a bunch of rough people who don’t understand anything. Don’t lower yourself to their level.”
“Look at this investment matter…”
The villagers couldn’t stand him bowing and scraping to others like a pug for a little benefit.
Someone in the crowd cursed angrily.
“Surname Liu, f*ck you! You’re the only one sucking up to these capitalists, showing off much! Don’t forget the last one named Jian spoke nicely but disappeared in the end.”
“Well scolded!” Others applauded and cheered repeatedly.
The assistant glanced at Lu Feng’s expression and pushed the red envelope back to Sister An. “You’re overthinking it. Our Chairman invested because he sees the great development prospects here. He definitely won’t destroy the ecology here or affect everyone’s lives.”
Finally, after some wrangling, the investment contract was signed as previously discussed.
The propeller above the helicopter spun fast, the engine buzzing, making eardrums throb.
“Big Brother, Uncle, will you miss us? Can we go home with you in the future?”
The two children timidly called out to Lu Xunye and Shen Yunqian.
Shen Yunqian: “We will.”
Lu Xunye also bent down and rubbed their heads, whispering in a voice only the three of them could hear.
“Watch the big geese carefully, don’t lose them again, understand?”
The two little ones nodded firmly, making a promise between the three: “Mhm!”
Hai City
The helicopter landed steadily on the rooftop of the Lu Group building.
Lu Xunye jumped down first. The moment his feet touched the ground, his legs went soft. He bent over unobtrusively and hammered his legs with exasperated force.
The temperature here was about ten degrees lower than in Jiang City and Qinghu Island.
Upon contact with the cold, damp air, he had the urge to sneeze, not to mention he felt terrible right now.
He paused for a few breaths, turned back, and reached out to help Shen Yunqian out of the cabin door. However, it was Lu Feng who walked over from the door.
He relaxed and pressed his fist against his cramping stomach.
Reluctantly stepping forward to help the other down, Lu Feng naturally didn’t miss his slightly furrowed brow. Thinking the other was impatient, he instantly flew into a rage.
Especially when the assistant came out of the cockpit door and sighed, trying to make up for his mistakes: “The Young Master is indeed filial.”
He was greeted with a “death sentence” from Lu Feng: “Roll back to the technical department this afternoon. If you still want your year-end bonus, tell your brother to come back.”
Assistant: “…”
Actually, Lu Xunye and Shen Yunqian didn’t do anything.
Shen Yunqian just saw Lu Xunye’s pale face and asked how he was feeling.
Then Lu Xunye familiarly put his arm on the other’s shoulder, leaning half his body on him for support.
And this scene fell into Lu Feng’s eyes as the two defiantly being “lovey-dovey.”
He pinched the center of his brows in irritation and ordered the assistant, “Find someone to prepare two sets of clothes for them to change into, then let them get lost!”
The listless Lu Xunye straightened up and replied faster than the assistant: “Roger that!”
Lu Feng: “…”
…
Along the way, everyone in the company who saw Lu Xunye greeted him: “Hello, Young President Lu.”
At first, Lu Xunye thought they mistook him for someone else. When he exited the company gate, he bumped into a man holding documents entering the door. Seeing him clearly, the man quickly moved aside: “Hello, Young President Lu.”
When this person left, Lu Xunye really couldn’t hold back and called him to confirm: “You called me?”
The other stood in place, hearts in his mouth. “Yes, Young President Lu.”
The assistant chased out from the elevator. While panting, he handed the things in his hand to Lu Xunye.
“This is the phone prepared for the Young Master long ago. The number has been bought back. In addition, the Chairman said you will take over the Second Master’s Vice President position and the branch company’s President position starting tomorrow.”
“Specific details will be sent to your email later.”
Lu Xunye: “What about Lu Yan?”
“The Second Master made a mistake. The Chairman ordered him to return from Jiang City tomorrow and reflect at home,” the assistant said.
Lu Xunye took the phone, looked it over, and asked tentatively, “Didn’t install anything unclean, did you?”
The assistant didn’t comment. “I am only responsible for handing the item to you. If you are not at ease, you don’t have to use it. I’ll arrange a driver for you and Young Master Shen.”
Turning on the phone, an unsigned text message popped up.
[I agreed to the request you mentioned.]
Evening, downstairs at the apartment complex. The car sped away.
Both Lu Xunye and Shen Yunqian were tired. They went upstairs in silence. After they left, a cat head popped out of the bushes.
The狸 flower cat (dragon Li cat) stared at Shen Yunqian’s back with round golden eyes, meowing softly as if wanting to stay, but was scared back into the bushes by the approaching voices.
Exiting the elevator, the sensor light in the corridor turned on. From a distance, Lu Xunye saw a figure squatting at the door of Shen Yunqian’s home, holding a wine bottle.
Lu Xunye’s gaze moved from his disheveled clothes to his decadent, lost soul face, and his expression suddenly became extremely ugly.
He almost subconsciously reached out and grabbed Shen Yunqian’s wrist.
He wanted to leave, but it was too late.
The glaring light obviously attracted the other party’s attention.
The person who had been in the dim environment for a long time didn’t show any discomfort.
The moment those hollow, lonely eyes swept over, Lu Xunye had already turned around and pressed the head-bowed Shen Yunqian against the wall, using his back to block that burning gaze.
Shen Yunqian groaned in pain but was covered by a palm that didn’t belong to him.
Lu Xunye’s face was extremely close to his, breathing rapid, but his attention wasn’t on him.
Shen Yunqian was startled by Lu Xunye’s sudden movement, his brain buzzing, mind blank. Only this enlarged handsome face was in his vision.
The corridor light clearly illuminated the fine fuzz on Lu Xunye’s face. Shen Yunqian’s Adam’s apple rolled, his gaze fixed obscurely on the bright red tip of the tongue licking his lips due to nervousness.
After the rustling friction of clothes, unsteady footsteps seemed to sound, approaching.
The next second, Shen Yunqian’s eyes went dark as a jacket with residual familiar body heat and scent was draped over his head.
Shen Yunqian: “…”
Lu Xunye grabbed his hand trying to take off the jacket. His voice trembled, carrying a plea he didn’t even notice himself. “Don’t take it off.”
Shen Yunqian let go. Through the layer of the jacket, the voices outside were faint.
“Don’t be afraid. Hold me tight.”
Before he could hear clearly, he was picked up horizontally. The weightlessness made him wrap his arms around Lu Xunye’s neck.
Footsteps approached. Through the gap under the jacket, Shen Yunqian saw the legs of the person passing them. It looked like a man.
Only two sets of footsteps echoed in the corridor.
Then only one set of footsteps. The person stopped.
Behind them came a voice so hoarse it sounded like chewing crushed charcoal and swallowing it raw.
“Lu Xunye.”
Lu Xunye paused, the arms holding Shen Yunqian tightening.
He turned around, his expression changing to a cynical one. “Yo, President Si? Didn’t go to keep your little beauty company? Why did you run to my door to drink?”
Si Jinyan had dark circles under his eyes, looking exhausted, his voice weak. “Where is Shen Yunqian?”
Lu Xunye took a step forward, asking sarcastically, “What? Didn’t President Si give up on him? Why ask me for him now?”
“I asked you where he is!” Si Jinyan shouted angrily.
Lu Xunye said coldly, “Didn’t President Si witness him fall into the sea with his own eyes? Do I need to help President Si recall what you were doing at that time?”
He curled his lips maliciously, enunciating each word: “You gave up on his life.”
Si Jinyan remembered. His face was as pale as paper, lips trembling, denying it over and over: “I didn’t, it wasn’t me…”
He grabbed Lu Xunye’s shoulder, begging humbly, “Let me see him once. Let me see him once.”
Seeing Lu Xunye’s cold face, he squeezed two words out through his teeth: “Beg you.”
Lu Xunye sneered. “So you also know how to beg, and for the person you once looked down upon the most.”
As if unable to understand his sarcasm, Si Jinyan asked stubbornly, “Where is he?”
“Shen Yunqian…” Lu Xunye seemed to soften, ready to tell him, but shattered his fantasy under his hopeful gaze. “Of course, he’s dead.”
This sentence froze Si Jinyan in place like a bolt from the blue.
After a long while, he stumbled back a step, murmuring, “I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it, you’re lying to me…”
Suddenly, his eyes lowered halfway, realizing Lu Xunye was still holding someone in his arms. He reached out to lift the clothes covering that person’s head.
