“Brother, there’s no need for the trouble.” Jiang Zhuoqing offered him a polite yet distant smile. “I’m not thirsty right now.”

Gu Huaiye didn’t insist. He nodded and sat down across from Jiang Zhuoqing.

“What did you want to talk to me about?”

“You aren’t biological brothers, are you?”

Gu Huaiye paused, his expression immediately turning guarded.

“I don’t understand what you mean.”

Jiang Zhuoqing curled his lips. “I had someone investigate Miaohan’s past. You brought him here from District H, so I am very grateful to you. Without your help, I might never have met Miaohan in this lifetime.”

“So? What are you trying to say?”

Jiang Zhuoqing thought for a moment, then leaned forward and held Gu Huaiye’s hand.

“Brother, just help me persuade Miaohan. I can see that he listens to you. As long as you help convince him, he will be willing to be with me.”

Gu Huaiye didn’t like being touched, so he forcefully pulled his hand back.

His footsteps paused for a second, then he walked into his room without looking back, shutting out the disturbance outside and leaving himself in silence.

Gu Huaiye walked to the mirror and stared at his pale, haggard reflection.

He muttered to himself, “It shouldn’t be possible, right?”
