Chapter 42: Why Have You Been So Cold to Me Lately?
Ye Zhile was scrolling through the Star Forum. Everyone online was discussing the KB virus. With reports from various media outlets, new cases were popping up everywhere, and the death toll kept adding numbers, making everyone anxious.
Ye Zhile scrolled for a moment before losing interest. When he went downstairs, Ji Shuohan was putting on his coat. Ye Zhile stood at the top of the stairs. “Is My Lord going out?”
“Mn, going to the Supreme Leader’s Ministry,” Ji Shuohan said.
“But it’s so dangerous outside. I just read that this virus has an incubation period,” Ye Zhile said worriedly.
Ji Shuohan looked up. Seeing the worried look on the Omega’s face, he stepped forward and pulled the Omega into his arms. “Don’t worry, the Capital is already locked down. Nothing will happen.”
Ye Zhile leaned lightly against his chest. “Then My Lord must be careful.”
“Okay.” Ji Shuohan stroked his head soothingly.
After Ji Shuohan left, Ye Zhile ate something casually, then took the loquat soup brewed by the kitchen upstairs.
Ye Zhile stayed at home all day, researching materials and writing news drafts. After reading a book, he took a short nap and finally had a call with his family.
Ye Zhile curled up on the sofa in his room. The cold wind howled outside, while inside was warm and quiet. Yet, he felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar; threads of cold air pierced his bones, and the stinging pain in his glands made him desperately need an Enigma’s pheromones for comfort.
The pain was unbearable. Ye Zhile climbed up, wanting to find something with Ji Shuohan’s pheromones, but in the end, he could only go to his room.
When entering, Ye Zhile thought about whether it was inappropriate to enter My Lord’s room casually. But then he felt aggrieved; they were legally married, yet he still had to consider the consequences of entering his own Enigma’s room during his heat.
Ye Zhile ignored everything else and went straight into Ji Shuohan’s room, lying under the quilt and wrapping himself up.
The cool scent of cedar soothed his tense nerves and stinging glands, but it wasn’t enough—far from enough. He wanted more.
When Ji Shuohan returned, he didn’t see Ye Zhile. He wasn’t in his room either. Ji Shuohan thought the Omega had gone out and hurriedly called to ask, only for the phone to ring inside the house.
Ji Shuohan was about to head downstairs when he smelled intense pheromones in front of his own door. He pushed the door open; there was a small lump under the covers on his bed.
“Ye Zhile?” Ji Shuohan walked over. The pheromones in the room were so dense they were intoxicating. He lifted the quilt to look—the Omega was soaked in sweat, his face flushed, and tears on his eyelashes hadn’t dried yet.
The Omega had too many grievances. As soon as he saw the Enigma, he couldn’t control his sobbing. He dodged the hand Ji Shuohan extended to hold him, crying softly.
“Zhile…” Ji Shuohan forcibly picked him up, releasing a large amount of pheromones to soothe him.
Ye Zhile looked at him with swollen red eyes and questioned him aggrievedly, “Why have you been so cold to me lately?”
Ji Shuohan hadn’t expected the Omega to be so sensitive. He could only deny it. “I haven’t.”
“You have…” The Omega choked on his sobs. “If you want to treat me well, you care about me; if you want to be cold, you just ignore me. Why?”
Ji Shuohan was pained by the Omega’s trembling tone. He lowered his eyes, stared at the Omega’s red lips, and kissed them.
Ye Zhile struggled weakly. Finally, he bit Ji Shuohan. Seeing the beads of blood welling up, he couldn’t help crying out again. “Wu… Ji Shuohan…”
The Enigma’s heart felt as if a large hand had clenched it tight, hurting so much he couldn’t breathe. Helpless and heartbroken, he pulled the Omega into his arms. “Zhile…”
“Cough, cough, cough…” Ye Zhile trembled in his arms, alternating between cold and hot, involuntarily burrowing deeper into the Enigma’s embrace.
Ji Shuohan was about to mark him when the person in his arms shook his head. “Don’t mark…”
“If I don’t mark you, you’ll feel very uncomfortable,” Ji Shuohan coaxed gently.
“No…” Ye Zhile shook his head stubbornly. “Marking hurts… just give me your pheromones.”
Ye Zhile had fainted twice during markings because he couldn’t withstand the Enigma’s powerful pheromones. Helpless, Ji Shuohan had to release a massive amount of pheromones to envelop the Omega.
Ye Zhile fell asleep lying in Ji Shuohan’s arms. Ji Shuohan wiped his face with a wet towel, tucked him in properly, and got up to go to the study to handle official business.
Ye Zhile didn’t know how long he slept. He felt suffocated and breathless, waking up with a start. It took several deep breaths before he could breathe properly.
Ye Zhile climbed out of bed, his whole body burning and limp. He felt the world spinning, double images overlapping before his eyes.
“Cough, cough, cough…” Ye Zhile couldn’t stop coughing. A sudden cramping pain seized his chest, hurting so much he knelt on the floor, unable to straighten up.
He wanted to call for help, but even breathing hurt. His vision grew blurrier and blurrier until he saw the door open, and someone hugged him before he fell.
“Zhile!”
In a single-patient ward, Ye Zhile was on an IV drip. Electrocardiogram patches were placed on his chest, and he had fallen into a deep sleep.
“Acute pneumonia. He needs to stay for observation.” Xiao Yuanqing tapped his notebook, clipped his pen into his breast pocket, and looked at the tense-faced Ji Shuohan. “According to what you said, his coughing started four days ago. You only brought him to the hospital today when his fever hit 40 degrees and caused intercostal neuralgia?”
“He said his throat was just uncomfortable, so I didn’t…” Ji Shuohan looked remorseful. “I was careless.”
“Who says it wasn’t,” Xiao Yuanqing said, sighing. “No matter what, Ye Zhile is young and doesn’t know how to take care of himself. You, as the adult, need to pay attention.”
“With his current condition, will it worsen?” Ji Shuohan asked.
“No, his condition was discovered in time. It’s mild pneumonia. But you need to pay more attention in the future. See a doctor as soon as there’s an issue; his body is weak, it can’t be delayed,” Xiao Yuanqing instructed.
Ji Shuohan acknowledged it. Xiao Yuanqing sighed lightly. “Watch over him. Call me if anything happens.”
“Okay.”
Ji Shuohan closed the window tightly and turned up the heater. Finally, he sat on the chair by the bed. He tested Ye Zhile’s forehead temperature with his hand; fortunately, the fever wasn’t as high as before.
The single-patient ward was on a high floor, and the surroundings were quiet. Only the sound of the heart monitor filled the room. Ji Shuohan released his pheromones, soothing the Omega who was sleeping restlessly due to the fever.
When Ye Zhile woke up, Ji Shuohan was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. He gave a light ‘cough’, drawing the man’s attention.
Ji Shuohan snapped back to reality and hurriedly went to support the person trying to sit up.
“Feeling better? Does your chest still hurt?” Ji Shuohan asked anxiously.
Ye Zhile shook his head, his voice hoarse. “I want water…”
Ji Shuohan poured him a glass of warm water. Ye Zhile was truly thirsty and drank the whole glass.
“Did I have a fever?” Ye Zhile looked up and asked.
“Acute pneumonia,” Ji Shuohan replied.
