Chapter 49: The Thousand Gold Pearl
Feng Shi’s entire body tensed up, and he turned his head stiffly.
The first things he saw were two eyeballs shining like orange lanterns. The vertical pupils within were like sudden rifts splitting open on flat ground—clearly textured, bottomless, and expanding and contracting with the old dragon’s breathing.
Next were two nostrils like black holes, the heat spraying from them blowing up dust from the flat ground in front of the dragon’s head.
In front of it, Feng Shi was as insignificant as a small bug that could be crushed by a single one of its whiskers.
Only then did he see clearly that the black wall he had encountered earlier was actually the old dragon’s body. Its physique was excessively massive, nearly filling this entire space.
【Host, let’s not move. Steady yourself first. It probably hasn’t seen you yet…】 Qingqing reminded carefully in Feng Shi’s ear.
Feng Shi swallowed, not moving. “As-ask a question. Does our system… sell things like Revival Armor?”
Qingqing cried pitifully: 【Sorry Host, your current assets are far from enough to purchase that…】
Feng Shi: “Then…”
【And no credit allowed…】
Feng Shi shut his mouth. In this moment, he once again profoundly understood a truth: A person can have no integrity, be shameless, but they must have money.
He only hoped he could live to walk out of here and implement this policy.
Because in the next second, the old dragon’s eyes suddenly shifted, locking onto Feng Shi by the underground river.
Seeing this anomaly in its space, the old dragon’s pupils suddenly narrowed tighter.
Feng Shi stood stiffly, letting the old dragon’s increasingly heavy breathing spray forcefully onto his face, raising a layer of fine goosebumps all over his body.
The old dragon seemed to be pondering what kind of thing he was. After a moment, however, it didn’t attack him. Instead, it slowly lifted its dragon head.
Thick dust shook off with its movements, rustling down.
Feng Shi squinted, raising a hand to block the wind and dust.
In his peripheral vision, he saw a point of light, even brighter than before, hanging from the dragon’s lower jaw, hidden within the long and dense whiskers.
“What is that?” Feng Shi looked directly at the somewhat blinding light and saw it was a golden pearl larger than his head.
Qingqing paused time.
【Host, it’s the Li Dragon’s Thousand Gold Pearl!】
【Legend has it that those who obtain the Thousand Gold Pearl can acquire great wisdom. If the Host obtains it, your Luck Value can increase by 10%. Qingqing has applied for a temporary mission. Do you choose to accept?】
Feng Shi was shocked. “Are you kidding me??”
“Right now, you should be thinking of a way—thinking of how I can walk out of here alive!”
【Host, I just checked the data. Encountering the Li Dragon this time is precisely because of the previous 5% Luck Value. Host is truly very lucky. Are you sure you don’t want to add another 10%?】
Feng Shi valued his life and refused without hesitation: “Even more luck won’t save my life. Think of a way, quickly!”
Qingqing didn’t try to persuade him further: 【Then run, Host. I will select the optimal route for you.】
Feng Shi opened the map issued by the system. There would be a line of light guiding him in the darkness. As long as he caught the old dragon off guard and moved fast enough, there was a high probability he could leave alive.
“Let’s do this.” Feng Shi unfolded the map, took a deep breath, and then deactivated the time freeze.
The moment the panel disappeared, Feng Shi ran with all his might, closely following the sliver of guiding light ahead.
Perhaps the old dragon really was old; its movements were extremely slow. By the time Feng Shi passed directly in front of it, it hadn’t even finished yawning.
A ringing sound echoed in Feng Shi’s ears, and a flush of excitement rose on his face.
Speeding on a sword in front of a giant dragon was even more thrilling than racing cars in his previous world. it was simply a race against death.
Feng Shi banked around a giant stone pillar ahead, the wind whistling in his ears.
Behind him, the old dragon finished yawning, followed immediately by a loud sneeze.
“Woohoo~” Feng Shi avoided the airflow and sighed in relief.
As long as he passed that stone pillar ahead, he would completely break away from the old dragon’s line of sight.
However, just at this moment, a light source suddenly approached rapidly from behind Feng Shi, carving his shadow sharply and clearly onto the stone pillar.
Feng Shi remembered the old dragon’s two torch-bright, bell-like eyes, and alarm bells instantly rang in his mind.
And these alarm bells were half his own inner voice, and half the system’s notification sound.
【Host, watch out!】 Qingqing lay on top of Feng Shi’s head, looked back, and then covered its eyes.
Feng Shi didn’t have time to look back.
Fortunately, his powerful spiritual soul allowed him to vaguely sense the direction of the incoming attack from behind.
He controlled the sword to plummet downwards, stopping just as he scraped the ground.
And in the second after he dodged, a gigantic, sharp tooth spun through the air and embedded itself into that stone pillar.
The surface of the tooth was yellowed and covered in thick slime, obviously having just detached from its owner’s mouth.
Feng Shi was shocked by the old dragon’s move.
So down-to-earth?
But before he could think more, Qingqing on his head suddenly yanked his hair: 【Host! There’s one more thing behind it!】
【Catch it, quick!】
Hearing its command, Feng Shi subconsciously raised his hands.
Then, a scorching, heavy pearl emitting blinding golden light fell right into Feng Shi’s hands.
Feng Shi blinked, struggling to hold the Thousand Gold Pearl, which his two arms couldn’t fully embrace—the very same one that had been hanging on the Li Dragon’s chin not long ago.
“???”
Qingqing was moved to tears: 【Sob sob sob, quick, stow away the meeting gift! As expected of my Host! To even get this, sob sob sob~ That was too explosive!】
Now the second-to-last place in performance is taken care of!
Feng Shi: “……”
He looked up and saw the old dragon not far away, missing a tooth, raising a claw to scratch its chin. It shook its head, shaking off the thick dust on its body, not having noticed him at all yet.
This was too magical.
Feng Shi looked down, engaging in a staring contest with the Thousand Gold Pearl, still in disbelief.
“Just like that… got it… in hand?”
Qingqing did a Thomas flare on the spot: 【Yes indeed, Host! This guy is already senile. Let’s leave quickly.】
Feng Shi: Mn… very good.
He glanced once more at the massive dragon, then stored the Thousand Gold Pearl into his account.
The system panel immediately popped up a notification: 【Congratulations Host on obtaining: Thousand Gold Pearl.
Now distributing mission rewards. Reward content:
Host’s Luck Value increased by 10%. Current Luck Value: 15%. You are a dusty pearl that the Heavenly Dao is unwilling to abandon. Please keep up the good work~
Note: Thousand Gold Pearl Hidden Skill: (Viewable at Nascent Soul Realm)】
Feng Shi continued to follow the route indicated by the map until he flew back to the location he came from.
Trailing Gold Moss covered the ground, warm and bright, finally soothing Feng Shi’s taut nerves.
This place was like a fairyland, and the spiritual energy was rich, but there were far more snakes, insects, rats, and ants than animals. Feng Shi didn’t want to stay long.
However, his consumption of spiritual energy just now had been immense; he was almost exhausted. He could only find a hidden small hill to take cover and recover his spiritual power first.
After Feng Shi had been sitting for a while, the old dragon in the depths seemed to finally discover it had lost its important golden pearl, suddenly erupting with an ear-splitting dragon roar.
Feng Shi frowned and covered his ears forcefully, but he was still shaken until his head spun.
【Host, that guy seems to have found out…】
Feng Shi rolled his eyes at it: Do I need you to tell me?
But his body felt slightly unwell, and his spiritual power hadn’t fully recovered. It probably wouldn’t support him flying up to the top.
Listening to the waves of dragon roars, Feng Shi reached into his Qiankun Bag and rummaged around, wanting to see if there were any magical artifacts Xu Yan gave him that could counter divine beasts or conceal his figure.
Unfortunately, there was no such luck.
The talismans rewarded by the system earlier were also of no use.
Feng Shi could only pray that the other party wouldn’t find him too quickly while channeling his energy to recover.
