Chapter 51: The Inquisitor part 1
“Lord Duan Ke, are you really going to the Bureau alone?”
The succubi surrounded Duan Ke, sitting on the first floor of the banquet hall. Everyone looked worried, speaking at once to dissuade their lord.
“That’s too dangerous. What if you get caught by the Inquisitor!”
“Although you are strong, that man… is too ruthless and malicious.”
“Yeah, how about thinking of another way? Safety first, Lord Duan Ke…”
According to the law of the jungle among monsters, lower-tier monsters rarely opposed the lord’s opinion.
But Duan Ke’s plan was simply too risky.
That Inquisitor’s reputation in the demon realm was historically bad.
A surviving monster once revealed that in a military exercise, the Inquisitor killed over four hundred A-rank monsters in a single day.
Although the Inquisitor himself was injured to the brink of death that time, it was enough to show his pervertedly strong combat capabilities. Even facing an S-rank, he wouldn’t be at a disadvantage.
Moreover, he loved double-tapping; he was extremely cautious.
Monsters who died at his hands, regardless of rank, were often torn to pieces. Even the last wisp of demonic energy would be destroyed—absolutely no possibility of resurrection. Losing meant eternal damnation.
For such a person, how could the succubi let their Lord Duan Ke face him?
“It’s really too dangerous, Lord Duan Ke.”
Even Xu Jue didn’t quite agree, frowning at Duan Ke and speaking tactfully, “Why not consider other methods?”
“Lord Duan Ke, if you urgently need that monster’s data, we can search for it too. It might be slower, but not by much. It’s not necessary to risk searching the Bureau.”
Duan Ke pursed his lips, his face looking a bit bad, his beautiful pupils trembling slightly from fear.
Although he tried his best to act natural in front of the monsters, his fear of the Inquisitor was hard to completely suppress with willpower.
Duan Ke was wavering a bit; he was actually quite scared.
But after thinking for a few seconds, Duan Ke shook his head. “I’m going.”
The young lord looked around the hall.
His compatriots had too much magic stolen by the Mirror Demon. The depletion was too great, and they hadn’t recovered yet.
Many succubi who had taken human form had regressed to their black ball state, unable to even fly, lying limp on sofas or beds. Even those who could maintain human form looked listless.
Even the most senior, Xu Jue, had huge dark circles under his eyes, looking sleepy and lacking appetite. He was purely holding on to speak with Duan Ke.
His compatriots were bullied like this; as the Progenitor Succubus, how could Duan Ke let his subordinates risk their lives for him?
A solution had to be found. The sooner he got the method to deal with that monster, the sooner he could snatch everyone’s magic back.
“Actually, you don’t need to worry too much. I’m very strong right now.”
Duan Ke said, “I fought that monster’s clone before and knocked it out with one punch! Presumably, knocking out the Inquisitor with one punch won’t be a problem either.”
The succubi knew about this, of course, but their worry couldn’t be hidden.
The Inquisitor’s strength was far from that of a clone; they weren’t in the same weight class.
Seeing them like this, Duan Ke sighed silently.
It seemed empty words wouldn’t reassure everyone completely. Duan Ke thought for a moment, reached out, and rolled up the hem of his shirt, wanting to show everyone the magic crests he had worked hard to “eat” out last night.
When Qin Huai called the courier last night, he didn’t buy a top for Duan Ke, only fitting underwear and shorts.
His top was too big, completely covering Duan Ke’s hip bones. Anyone seeing Duan Ke in this outfit would know the clothes weren’t his, but someone else’s.
Duan Ke held a corner of Qin Huai’s shirt in his mouth—the clothes were truly too wide. He exposed his lower abdomen, signaling everyone to look.
The surrounding succubi craned their necks, looking over in confusion.
Crimson and purple ancient patterns climbed like branches over Duan Ke’s smooth skin, vaguely converging into a heart shape in the center.
From the soft-fleshed lower abdomen, disappearing all the way into the waistband, the area had expanded significantly. There was even faint gold tracing the edges, shimmering slightly under the ambiguous lights of the hall.
Seeing the shape of the magic crests clearly, the succubi were stunned at first, then sucked in a cold breath in unison, their eyes almost popping out.
“Wow.”
“Wow…”
“Wow………………”
Exclamations rose one after another, each higher than the last, like a musical.
Duan Ke initially thought it was nothing—who present didn’t have this thing? But being teased by everyone like this, he blushed furiously, hurriedly pulling Qin Huai’s clothes down to cover his belly.
“What are you all sighing about…”
Duan Ke didn’t know where to put his hands, clutching Qin Huai’s shirt. “Isn’t this very normal… after eating, the magic crests grow on their own.”
“But this is too…”
Xu Jue was so scared his voice was unstable; his sleepiness vanished.
“Lord Duan Ke, was this fed by your keeper alone?? How long did he feed you?”
“Uh, one night?”
“……………………???”
All the succubi fell silent.
They looked at each other, expressions a mix of admiration, horror, and curiosity. Duan Ke felt guilty under their gaze, scratching his cheek with his index finger and turning his head away.
It was okay, right? Just… seven or eight times?
He came seven or eight times; Qin Huai only came two or three times. It’s really okay, not to the point where succubi would faint from fright.
Duan Ke used to be franker than anyone when talking about such things. But after falling in love, he always felt an inexplicable guilt, his voice lacking confidence.
“Isn’t it because of the marking…” Duan Ke waved his hand. “It’s normal to be… a bit compatible with a boyfriend.”
The succubi’s expressions turned from horror to sourness, followed by a chorus of wailing.
Duan Ke felt they were keen to get to the bottom of it, and suddenly didn’t dare stay longer. He looked down at his phone; it was past 11:00 PM.
Time to prepare for action.
“I’m leaving, everyone.” Duan Ke waved. “Rest well and wait for my good news.”
Duan Ke felt helpless yet sweet inside; why is everyone still worried?
The “don’t” in his “Don’t worry about me” was already out of his mouth when he heard the second half of the succubi’s sentence.
“Be careful not to cause a loss of human life!”
“…What?”
Duan Ke was shocked, freezing in his steps, turning back with a face full of surprise.
He heard the succubi starting to chatter again, but the topic was completely different from the start.
“Lord Duan Ke, your magic crests have turned gold! That Inquisitor shouldn’t be your opponent at all…”
“Gold isn’t something just any monster can evolve…”
“I’ve lived for hundreds of years and never seen such perfect magic crests!! Simply a work of art ahhhhh! My whole life…”
“Lord Duan Ke, your charm magic can probably control the mental field of all carbon-based life forms now… this magic power is too formidable… Your keeper is simply a natural blood bag; I am astounded. As expected of someone chosen by Lord Duan Ke…”
With them chiming in, Duan Ke didn’t have time to be nervous anymore. He puffed out one cheek, holding back laughter.
Is it as exaggerated as they say?
Really shouldn’t be. Brother told him human couples are all this intimate.
Maybe everyone is making a fuss because they haven’t been in love.
But regardless, Duan Ke felt his trip today was quite successful. He told his compatriots his plan without worrying them too much.
Duan Ke walked out of the villa, set the destination to a hospital near the Bureau, and stood by the roadside waiting for a car.
While waiting, he opened the chat interface, clicking directly into the pinned chat with a clear goal.
…But saw a photo filled with white.
Duan Ke was startled, looking around like a thief.
Confirming no one was nearby, he sighed in relief and clicked on the photo, which was obviously a “bed selfie.”
Qin Huai was lying on his pillow, eyes sleepy, clothes and hair a bit messy. It looked like a casual snap.
To replenish magic, Duan Ke had clung to Qin Huai all night long, rarely making his boyfriend a bit tired.
Qin Huai hadn’t slept all night, diligently feeding his boyfriend, so he was genuinely sleepy.
His eyes were half-open, looking lazily at the camera, yet still carrying that lingering aggression that both fascinated and frightened Duan Ke.
Duan Ke unconsciously bit his lower lip, amber almond eyes full of eagerness.
…Really want to kiss.
Was I infected by my boyfriend? Why does just one look make my mouth feel dry?
Duan Ke hesitated for two seconds, then dialed his boyfriend.
Qin Huai picked up instantly.
“Baby,” Qin Huai asked. “Where are you?”
At this moment, the taxi happened to arrive and honked.
Duan Ke opened the door and got in. The driver first involuntarily looked at his overly striking appearance, then at the clothes on him.
Damn, this is too obvious!
The driver stopped himself from speaking, forcibly holding back the gossip, and turned to look at the road.
