Chapter 107
Wen Jiafei handed the washed apple to Shen Shuyu. Shen Shuyu said, “Just give me half. I had breakfast not long ago and can’t eat that much.”
Wen Jiafei looked down, holding the apple in both hands. With a simple crack, he split it into two halves with his bare hands. The split was a bit uneven, but he handed the half with more flesh to Shen Shuyu.
Shen Shuyu was still processing the fact that he had just split an apple with his bare hands as he silently accepted the piece.
Wen Jiafei took the other half, intending to feed it to Wen Yue, but she shook her head. She didn’t want to eat; she wanted to talk to Shen Shuyu.
Understanding her intent, Wen Jiafei sat down with his half of the apple, picked up his book, and quietly began to read.
Shen Shuyu couldn’t help but ask, “Is he this quiet in front of you too?”
Wen Yue smiled and nodded. “Jiafei has been a sealed gourd since he was a child.”
Shen Shuyu took a bite of his apple. So that’s it. He’s just naturally reticent.
Wen Yue glanced at Wen Jiafei before turning her gaze back to Shen Shuyu. “Shuyu, are you an Alpha?”
Shen Shuyu shook his head. “Auntie, I’m an Omega.”
“An Omega?” Wen Yue seemed slightly surprised. Shen Shuyu nodded. “Yes.”
Looking at Shen Shuyu’s obedient and docile appearance, Wen Yue smiled. “What a well-behaved and cute Omega.”
Well-behaved and cute? Used to describe him? Shen Shuyu felt it sounded a bit strange no matter how he thought about it.
He couldn’t help but sneak a peek at Wen Jiafei, who was sitting opposite him by the window. He didn’t react; he must be too engrossed in his book to have heard.
Relieved, Shen Shuyu withdrew his gaze. “Auntie, do you feel any better?”
“Much better,” Wen Yue replied. “I even have the strength to speak now.”
The two chatted happily, though it was mostly Shen Shuyu doing the talking. Sitting by the window, Wen Jiafei finally turned the page of the book he had been staring at for a long time. The corners of his mouth lifted imperceptibly; he was in a good mood too.
Although Wen Yue had improved significantly, her energy was still limited. After chatting for about half an hour, she showed obvious signs of fatigue. Shen Shuyu naturally noticed this and said, “Auntie, I have other things to do. I’ll come to see you next time I’m free. Please rest well and focus on recovering.”
Wen Yue smiled and nodded. “Alright.”
Wen Jiafei set his book aside, preparing to get up, but Shen Shuyu hurriedly stopped him. “You just stay there. I’ll see myself out.”
Shen Shuyu rose from the chair and said with a dashing air, “I’m off.”
But when he looked at Wen Yue, he reverted to his obedient demeanor. “Goodbye, Auntie.”
Wen Yue kept a gentle smile on her face.
After Shen Shuyu left the ward, Wen Yue looked at her son and asked, “Do you like Shuyu?”
Wen Jiafei stood up. “Don’t talk nonsense.”
He walked to the end of the bed to lower the backrest. Wen Yue kept her eyes on him, and when Wen Jiafei looked up, he met his mother’s gaze.
“He is just my friend,” Wen Jiafei said.
Wen Yue believed him. “That’s good. Our Jiafei is finally willing to make friends.”
She continued, “When I get better, how about inviting Shuyu over for a meal?”
Knowing her son’s temperament, she didn’t expect an answer and rambled on, “No, that won’t work. That child Shuyu clearly comes from a very good background. The place we live in isn’t suitable for hosting him. When I recover, I’ll find a job and we’ll move to a cleaner place before inviting him over.”
“Mom.” Wen Jiafei stood by the bed, bending down to tuck in the corners of her quilt. “Whatever you say is fine. Just rest now.”
Wen Yue looked at him, her eyes suddenly reddening. She reached out and took Wen Jiafei’s hand. “Jiafei, I’ve made you suffer.”
Wen Jiafei shook his head. “It’s not suffering. You getting better quickly is more important than anything.”
Shen Shuyu hummed a little tune as he stood in front of the elevator, waiting for it to arrive. He was in a good mood. Seeing Wen Yue like this, she should be discharged soon.
If her health improved, it wouldn’t trigger Wen Jiafei’s darkening or “blackening” later on. Plus, his relationship with Wen Jiafei had improved.
His life was saved!
Shen Shuyu wanted to spin around in circles right there to express his feelings. Ding. The elevator doors opened.
Shen Shuyu walked in, pressed the button for the first floor, and watched the changing numbers. Soon, he arrived at the ground floor. There were quite a few people outside waiting for the elevator.
As soon as the doors opened, the crowd swarmed forward. Shen Shuyu turned his body sideways and squeezed out with difficulty. Just as he was about to look back at the elevator, his vision suddenly went black. He hurriedly relied on his short-term memory to grab the wall for support. His heart felt like it was being yanked by something, as if it wanted to leap right out of his chest.
Shen Shuyu’s face went pale instantly, and large beads of cold sweat broke out. He bent over, one hand clutching his chest, his teeth biting down hard on his lower lip.
A passerby waiting for the elevator asked with concern, “Sir, are you okay?”
Shen Shuyu looked up at the person concerned for him and squeezed two words out of his mouth: “I’m fine.”
The discomfort in his heart gradually subsided. He took a deep breath, feeling that he was returning to normal.
The passerby looked at his pale face and the hand still clutching his chest, advising, “You should go get checked. Heart problems are serious issues.”
Shen Shuyu thanked him again. His heart didn’t hurt anymore.
He composed his expression and walked toward the hospital entrance.
What is going on?
He knew that feeling very well just now—it was the Main Brain’s punishment. But the problem was, Little One had said the Main Brain wouldn’t punish him anymore. Why was it so sudden today?
Could it be that the System returned?
Shen Shuyu took a deep breath. As he walked out, he shouted for the System in his mind, but there was still no response.
It was truly, incredibly strange.
It had been so long; it was as if the System had vanished into thin air.
Boom—
A sudden clap of thunder rolled across the sky, startling the distracted Shen Shuyu. He looked up again. Dark clouds were gathering. It had been a clear, sunny day when he went out; how did the weather change so suddenly?
Shen Shuyu wrapped his clothes tighter around himself and raised his hand to hail a cab. Just as he got in, the torrential rain began to fall.
The driver said, “Sir, you’re really lucky.”
Shen Shuyu thought so too. He gave his home address, and the driver stepped on the gas, heading toward the destination.
The terminal in his pocket vibrated. Shen Shuyu took it out and looked. It was a message from Wen Jiafei.
[Wen Jiafei: Are you in a car?]
He must have noticed the heavy rain.
Shen Shuyu replied that he was, then put the terminal back in his pocket. He looked out the window at the rain streaming down the glass.
He pursed his lips and withdrew his gaze.
Could it be because Wen Yue regained consciousness?
In the novel, Wen Yue never woke up and stayed in the intensive care unit until the end. Wen Jiafei suffered a lot to earn money for medical expenses. But now, because of his intervention, Wen Jiafei made money much more easily, and Wen Yue received good treatment and would be discharged soon.
If this was judged as a plot deviation, then he accepted the punishment.
After all, he really couldn’t watch a life fade away just for the sake of the plot. Having thought it through, Shen Shuyu’s tense nerves relaxed a bit. Punish me if you want. It won’t kill me anyway; it’s just uncomfortable. I’ll get used to it after a few times.
Shen Shuyu’s thoughts cleared up instantly. He felt like a genius.
When Shen Shuyu got home, the rain outside had stopped, but he had still gotten a bit wet due to the distance from the car to the door.
Water dripped from his wet hair. Seeing this, the housekeeper hurriedly brought a clean towel to dry him off.
Shen Shuyu took the towel, wiped his hair, and sniffed as he walked upstairs. “Where’s my brother?”
The housekeeper replied, “President Shen is in the study.”
Shen Shuyu went upstairs. However, the moment he stepped into the second-floor corridor, he smelled a very thick pheromone scent.
Snowy pine, but mixed with something else… an indescribable scent.
Shen Shuyu’s hand paused in wiping his hair. Has Shen Yisi entered his… rut?
