Chapter 95: The Young City Lord
Su Muyao lowered her head, not daring to meet everyone’s gaze, and explained, “Um, it’s not what you think. Wen Nanxi was injured, so I just gave him some restorative medicine.”
“His ability to level up is related to his own constitution.”
“Yes, that’s it.”
She absolutely couldn’t tell them what happened last night. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even need to eat breakfast; the awkwardness alone would fill her up.
The atmosphere at the moment was incredibly subtle, poised as if a fight could break out at the slightest provocation.
Wen Nanxi looked at Su Muyao, his eyes filled with gentle, doting affection.

None of them were acting normal. They used to hate Su Muyao, yet now, after such a short time, they were all competing for her favor.

Since it was just about taking medicine, Hua Linye and Xiao Jihan didn’t say anything more. After all, Su Muyao had prepared medicine for them as well—one for fire poison, the other for cold syndrome.
Seeing the atmosphere settle, Su Muyao told everyone to eat.
Mei Qingchen hurriedly began to chow down. He was starving; smelling the aroma of the food earlier had been pure torture. He hadn’t known what it would taste like, but now he could finally taste it.
Although Xiao Jihan and Hua Linye had cooked the meal, they claimed they had learned their culinary skills from Su Muyao.
One bite, and Mei Qingchen finally understood just how delicious it was. His phoenix eyes lit up with a bright, dazzling luster, revealing a look of pure astonishment.
He was completely stunned by the food.
It was… it was too delicious!
Mei Qingchen couldn’t care less about anything else and began to eat rapidly. Although he ate quickly, as the heir to the Mei family, he had been noble since childhood. His dining etiquette remained elegant, just much faster than usual. Furthermore, despite his speed, he made no sound.
Watching Mei Qingchen, Hua Linye said indifferently, “Now you know how good the food is, right?”
Mei Qingchen couldn’t refute this. He whispered a low, “Mhm.”
Hua Linye deliberately put on a regretful expression. “Although we learned from the Wife, the taste we produce can’t compare to what the Wife makes. It’s maybe one-tenth as good.”
“It’s a pity. Before, when the Wife asked you to eat, you refused. In the future, you might not get the chance to eat her cooking at all.”
After learning to cook, they couldn’t bear to let the Wife work in the kitchen; they would be doing the cooking from now on.
Mei Qingchen felt as if a lump was stuck in his throat. He felt Hua Linye was doing this on purpose. But he wouldn’t admit he regretted it.
If he had known earlier, he would have just eaten!
Mei Qingchen didn’t argue back. He ate silently, mainly because he had no face to argue.

After breakfast and cleaning up, everyone escorted Su Muyao into the mountain forest.
Wen Nanxi, Hua Linye, and Xiao Jihan all wanted to carry Su Muyao into the forest.
Wen Nanxi said gently, “According to the previous rules, it is my turn to carry the Wife.”
Hua Linye insisted, “Those were the old rules. Now we are all escorting the Wife up the mountain together, so those rules don’t apply.”
Xiao Jihan spoke up in a quiet, cool voice, “Wife, when we went to Yunxiao City before, they took turns carrying the Wife back and forth. I didn’t get a turn at all.”
Xiao Jihan’s voice lacked its usual frostiness; his tone was much softer.
Su Muyao hesitated.
Mei Qingchen stood to the side, arms crossed. Seeing this scene, he drawled lazily, “Since the Wife doesn’t know how to choose, why don’t I carry the Wife?”
“Or, my sword works too!”
Hua Linye and the others stopped arguing instantly and immediately turned to beat up Mei Qingchen.
“The Wife didn’t say you could come to the forest.”
Mei Qingchen insisted, “I am the Wife’s beast husband. It is my duty to protect the Wife, so I am going too.”
No matter how they hit him, he wouldn’t leave. And Mei Qingchen didn’t fight back; he deliberately revealed his injuries for Su Muyao to see.
Su Muyao looked away and said to Xiao Jihan, “Let Xiao Jihan carry me today!”
At times like this, she had to balance things out, or they really would start fighting.
Ah, what a headache!

Once in the forest, Su Muyao looked for ingredients while Wen Nanxi and the others hunted nearby, keeping her as the center point. This ensured they could protect her while still gathering food.
Su Muyao also gathered a lot of herbs.
Hua Linye eagerly stepped forward to help. “Wife, I’ll help you pick herbs!”
He had helped gather herbs before, so he had experience now.
Su Muyao stopped him. “These are poisonous herbs. Don’t touch them carelessly.”
Even Su Muyao was wearing gloves from her spatial dimension to pick these.
Hearing this, Hua Linye’s face changed color. “Wife, these poisons are too dangerous. Don’t hurt yourself!”
Hua Linye looked nervously at Su Muyao’s hands, terrified the poison would touch her skin. Seeing she was wearing gloves, he relaxed slightly.

If the Wife said it was edible, then it was definitely edible.
Wen Nanxi and Xiao Jihan returned with their prey and also helped with the picking.
Mei Qingchen felt his good intentions were unappreciated, but his body was honest even if his mouth was stubborn; while grumbling, he joined in the picking.
Su Muyao ignored him.
This trip to the forest was a bountiful harvest.
However, when they returned home, they saw a luxurious carriage parked at their door.

No one dared to use such cloud patterns; it was the unique mark of the Cloud family.
Xiao Jihan’s expression also grew serious. “The City Lord’s people? Why would they come here?”
Hua Linye guessed, “Is it related to the assassination yesterday?”
Hearing the commotion, the steward standing by the carriage hurriedly walked over. When he saw Su Muyao’s beauty, he was stunned for a moment.
She didn’t match the rumors at all. But remembering the Young City Lord’s instructions, he quickly said, “Miss Su, hello!”
“I am the steward of the City Lord’s Manor!”
“My Young City Lord said that Miss Su being assassinated yesterday was a failure of his management regarding the security of Yunxiao City. He asked me to deliver some gifts to apologize to Miss Su and to help calm your nerves.”
