Chapter 86: Make You Call Me Brother (VI)
Old Mrs. Gu had made a scene for nothing and didn’t get the result she wanted.
But after this incident, Gu Yinnian’s reaction was huge and lasted for a long time.
Specifically, he began to be unable to tolerate hearing Xiao Ji’s name from anyone’s mouth. Whether at home or at school, he wouldn’t allow Xiao Ji to leave his line of sight.
Even at night when sleeping, he insisted on watching over Xiao Ji until he fell asleep before willing to return to his own room.
Worried that Gu Yinnian was treating Xiao Ji as a possession, Chen Lan tried to have a heart-to-heart with him.
But Gu Yinnian only asked one question:
“Will Ah-Ji leave us?”
Chen Lan shook her head. “I promise, I will raise Brother together with you.”
“What about after we grow up?” Gu Yinnian asked.
Chen Lan rubbed Gu Yinnian’s head. “That isn’t something Mom can decide.”
And because of Chen Lan’s single uncertain sentence, Gu Yinnian moved his pillow and quilt into Xiao Ji’s room that very night.
Chen Lan wanted to stop him, but Father Gu said, “He’s just a child. The incident last time scared Xiao Nian. He finally has a playmate he likes; he’ll understand when he grows up.”
Gu Yinnian’s mind was very simple.
He just couldn’t accept Xiao Ji appearing and then leaving.
At night, he lay beside Xiao Ji, looking at him.
“Can you fall asleep with me here?”
Xiao Ji nodded.
Gu Yinnian, however, said, “I can’t sleep.”
Xiao Ji locked eyes with him. “Then go back to your room to sleep.”
Gu Yinnian refused. “No, why should I go back? I’ll sleep where I want to sleep. If I can’t sleep, I’ll force myself to sleep.”
Xiao Ji pressed half his face into the pillow. “You’re afraid I’ll be sent away.”
Gu Yinnian wouldn’t admit it. “What do I have to be afraid of? Before you came, I lived incredibly comfortably.”
“Since you came, I have to take care of you. I’m very tired.”
Xiao Ji found it funny in his heart. He reached out and held Gu Yinnian’s chubby little hand. “Then you are working very hard.”
Gu Yinnian sighed deeply. “As long as you know.”
A moment later, he still couldn’t help but ask, “Will you leave?”
Xiao Ji answered very readily, “As long as you don’t chase me away.”
Gu Yinnian glared at him. “What silly talk. You are my brother.”
Xiao Ji squeezed his little finger. “Then I won’t leave.”
Perhaps because Xiao Ji gave Gu Yinnian an answer—even if Xiao Ji had no say in such matters—Gu Yinnian was visibly much more at ease.
Because less than three minutes after Xiao Ji said this, Gu Yinnian’s breathing became even, clearly having fallen asleep.
But no one expected that when Xiao Ji eventually left, he really was chased away by Gu Yinnian personally.
Time was like a thief, stealing away the years of their youth.
Gu Yinnian’s secondary differentiation came very early and very smoothly.
Without any surprise, he differentiated into an Alpha.
But the accident happened to Xiao Ji.
On the evening of Gu Yinnian’s differentiation, a scent of fire scorching the earth exploded through the house.
Xiao Ji was drinking water in the kitchen at the time. The moment Gu Yinnian’s pheromones exploded, a sharp pain shot through the back of his neck, and he fainted immediately.
He was resuscitated in the hospital for three days and stayed there for nearly half a month before recovering.
Both Gu Yinnian and the Chen Lan couple were terrified.
However, after the examination results came out, everyone had a headache.
Xiao Ji’s glands were intolerant to Gu Yinnian’s pheromones.
Moreover, his glands had been injured earlier. Currently, he couldn’t withstand Gu Yinnian’s pheromone riots.
Gu Yinnian’s world collapsed. He confronted Xiao Ji’s attending physician in the office:
“Is there no solution?”
The attending physician spoke the truth: “Currently, the best way is for him to stay far away from you.”
Gu Yinnian’s newly differentiated gland began to throb incessantly.
“I don’t accept that.”
The attending physician finished typing the medical record on the computer and glanced at Gu Yinnian:
“Then go communicate with the patient. If he happens to not want to live either, then please don’t send him to the hospital next time. Contacting the funeral home directly saves trouble.”
Gu Yinnian wanted to refute, but his mind was a mess.
“Didn’t you say there’s no way currently? Then when will there be a way?”
The doctor said, “Wait until he differentiates. If he’s an Omega, as long as the pheromones don’t conflict, everything will be fine.”
“What if he’s an Alpha?” Gu Yinnian asked.
The doctor pondered for a moment. “If he’s an Alpha, then you two fight. You’re already intolerant to this degree now; presumably, when your pheromones clash later, it’ll be a fight to the death.”
Gu Yinnian’s face turned terribly ugly, and his pheromones looked like they were about to explode uncontrollably again.
When the scent of fire leaked out, the doctor hurriedly stood up and sprayed a blocker wildly at the back of Gu Yinnian’s neck, then sighed.
“Young man, don’t be so impatient. Just a joke. Matters after differentiation naturally have to wait until after differentiation to judge. Asking me now, I don’t have a sample to test, so I can only guess.”
“Don’t take it seriously. Life is already hard enough. At your age, schoolwork must be heavy, right? Think about happy things. Which university are you planning to take?”
Gu Yinnian didn’t speak. He turned and left.
The doctor would joke with Gu Yinnian, but not with Chen Lan and her husband.
Thus, Gu Yinnian’s successful differentiation, originally a cause for celebration, cast a gloom over the Gu family.
Chen Lan talked with Gu Yinnian for a long time. For the sake of Xiao Ji’s health, she and Father Gu wanted to send Xiao Ji to live at a boarding school elsewhere.
Gu Yinnian resisted fiercely at first, but after calming down later, he understood that this decision seemed to be the best outcome for Xiao Ji.
So, after a sleepless night, he agreed to Chen Lan’s idea.
Gu Yinnian wanted to talk to Xiao Ji very much.
After being listless at school all day, he still came to the hospital after school.
Afraid he couldn’t control his pheromones well right now, he could only look at Xiao Ji through the window from outside the ward door and call him.
“How do you feel?”
Xiao Ji, wearing a hospital gown and leaning against the bed, seemed to sense something. He turned his head and saw Gu Yinnian outside the window.
He blinked at Gu Yinnian and lied:
“I feel very good. No problems.”
Gu Yinnian had grown up.
The round, childish appearance of his youth was long gone.
His features had become deep, his contours defined. Tall with long legs, standing there in his school uniform, he looked every bit the dashing young gentleman.
Perhaps due to high-level Alpha genes, he had always been taller than most of his peers. His figure wasn’t thin like other Alphas when they shot up in height.
Instead, he was perfectly lean and strong, handsome enough to make it hard to look away.
He looked at Xiao Ji through the glass window and found that Xiao Ji had grown up too.
But unlike him.
Xiao Ji’s face had merely lost its childishness, but his brows and eyes were even more exquisite than before.
Xiao Ji was also tall, but he showed no signs of differentiating. Unlike Gu Yinnian’s robustness, he looked even more like a doll.
Sitting quietly there in his hospital gown, his face pale, he was so beautiful he didn’t look real.
Gu Yinnian’s Adam’s apple bobbed. After a long time, he finally spoke:
“Hey, Xiao Ji, what should I do? I’m preparing to chase you away. Will you be mad at me?”
