Chapter 129: “Not Pregnant Because You Didn’t Try Hard Enough!” “Then Let’s Try Harder…”
Aside from essential personnel, no one passed by the Emperor and Empress’s sleeping quarters in the Royal Palace for these three days.
No outsiders were allowed to interfere with the Queen’s food, clothing, or daily needs.
Next to the bedroom was a small kitchen built specifically under Du Feng’s orders. This was to facilitate taking good care of his wife during the heat period.
Whatever it was like back in Baimeng, it was the same now in the Royal Palace.
Shen Zhuo hadn’t changed, and neither had Du Feng.
The only change was…
“Why aren’t I pregnant?”
The boy held the pregnancy test, staring at it intensely. After a while, he almost poked it into Du Feng’s face. “Why!”
Du Feng was busy cooking on one side, while Shen Zhuo stood beside him, practically about to sit in the pot. He was busy on both ends, unable to split himself.
“I’ll call the doctor to take a look after we eat, okay?”
Du Feng threw the pregnancy test into the trash can, released more pheromones, and subtly blocked the cooking fumes from Shen Zhuo’s face.
“But the internet says the higher the compatibility, the easier it is to conceive. We’re at 103%…”
The Omega didn’t care about anything else; he pointed at Du Feng’s nose and said, “Is it because you haven’t worked hard enough?”
Du Feng felt a throb in his temple. He turned off the stove and turned to face the boy.
“I didn’t work hard?”
One could hear the grinding of teeth in his tone.
Shen Zhuo shrank back, vaguely sensing he might have said something not quite right. But in his heat, his brain was a paste; he couldn’t remember anything or process anything.
He gritted his teeth and braced himself. “Yes, exactly…”
“Because I checked my body before, and there were no issues!”
“So… so it must be you!”
Du Feng bent down, staring into Shen Zhuo’s eyes at eye level, pondering whether his performance last night really wasn’t good enough.
To think he made his wife have the thought that “he didn’t work hard.”
He stared for a while until the little Omega was stared into a guilty, blushing mess.
Only then did Du Feng show mercy, pinching the boy’s cheek and ruffling his hair for good measure.
“Eat first. I’ll teach you a lesson after eating.”
Shen Zhuo looked down at his slippers, muttering, “Then shouldn’t we call the doctor?”
Du Feng had already dished out the food, served the soup, and set the table before looking at Shen Zhuo, who was still fretting in the kitchen.
“Just now you were crying saying you were really hungry and telling me to stop so you could eat, and now you’re not hungry?”
The blatant teasing made the tips of Shen Zhuo’s ears burn hot as he shuffled his slippers toward the dining table.
Du Feng served a bowl of fragrant meat soup and picked out plenty of dishes. He propped his chin on his hand, watching the boy’s cheeks puff out like a little hamster, eyes narrowing as he chewed. He couldn’t help but laugh aloud.
His baby usually ate slowly and methodically, upholding noble etiquette.
But during his heat, all etiquette and elegance were forgotten.
He would stuff his mouth full before chewing, and when he tasted something good, he would narrow his eyes like a small animal.
How can he be so cute?
Whose Omega is this?
Oh, he’s mine.
“What are you laughing at…”
Shen Zhuo saw the man opposite him not eating or speaking, just resting his chin and staring at him while smiling.
Could it be that he was angry about being told he didn’t work hard?
Or was it…
“Did you poison the food?” Shen Zhuo looked at the mountain of meat in his bowl, eyes widening.
Du Feng had just taken a sip of soup and almost choked. “Cough, cough…”
An Omega’s brain circuitry during heat was completely different from usual, but such a question still caught Du Feng off guard.
“Madam doesn’t trust me?” Du Feng deliberately showed a hurt expression, his eyes dimming as he lowered his gaze.
Sure enough, the boy fell for it immediately.
“No, no…”
Shen Zhuo panicked a little. He had just said it casually…
What to do? My Alpha seems really sad.
Shen Zhuo put down his chopsticks and was about to walk over barefoot. He was called back by a “Put on your shoes” and obediently put his slippers on properly.
Walking up to Du Feng, Shen Zhuo leaned down to look at the man’s expression, only to see the bloodshot veins in Du Feng’s eyes.
Shen Zhuo took a breath.
Cr… Crying?
“Don’t be sad…”
Shen Zhuo had never been good at coaxing people. He wasn’t good at it when sober, and even more confused when not.
He stammered a few useless sentences. Seeing the man had no reaction, Shen Zhuo simply cupped his face with both hands and kissed him directly.
A loud “Mwah”!
“Is that a little better?” Shen Zhuo bit his lip. “I didn’t mean to make you angry…”
Du Feng gritted his teeth, desperately holding back laughter, and teased him intentionally:
“Not better.”
The boy flustered, kissing randomly from forehead to chin.
After practically kissing everywhere once, he asked again nervously:
“Is it better now?”
Du Feng nodded. “A tiny bit.”
Now it was the Omega’s turn to be distressed. But after all, he was the one who made the man angry. He couldn’t ignore it.
“Then tell me what to do?” Shen Zhuo straddled the man’s lap directly, hands pressing on his shoulders.
The distance between them was very close—close enough that their lips or legs could touch immediately, or go even deeper.
Du Feng held his waist, lowered his eyes in contemplation for a moment, and whispered a sentence in the boy’s ear.
Shen Zhuo’s eyes widened, and he accused in a low voice, cheeks flushing red:
“You… that’s too much.”
Du Feng frowned, his voice deep: “Is it… very too much?”
Shen Zhuo couldn’t stand that expression on him. “I got it, I’ll go right now…”
Saying that, he tried to jump off Du Feng’s lap, but the man grabbed him back. He buttoned every single button up to the very top until all marks on the neck were covered, then patted the Omega’s little bottom.
“Go on.”
Shen Zhuo took a breath. For some reason, just thinking about what he had to say later made his brain stop working.
So, with a blank mind, the boy opened the door.
Outside, the attendant officer immediately turned to salute him.
“Your Majesty the Queen, what are your orders?”
“Is the Princess reviewing the recent government affairs?”
The attendant lowered his head. “Yes.”
After a while, hearing no response, the attendant looked up and glanced at the expressionless Queen.
An S5 Omega indeed! Calm and self-possessed even during heat!
The attendant was also an Omega. Recalling his own loss of composure during heat, he couldn’t help but respect Shen Zhuo even more.
Truly the Empire’s Queen!
The attendant didn’t know that during those few seconds of Shen Zhuo’s expressionless “contemplation,” he was actually frantically building up his mental fortitude.
“Just received a message from the Princess saying there is a document that needs reviewing. Go get it and give it to…”
Shen Zhuo suddenly stuttered here like a broken machine.
The attendant blinked in confusion.
He saw the boy’s lips move, but no sound came out.
It wasn’t until two minutes later that Feng Muya appeared around the corner.
“Where is my brother? Here’s a document for him to sign.” Seeing Shen Zhuo, Feng Muya asked puzzledly, “Why did you come out? My brother isn’t taking care of you?!”
Feng Muya noticed the attendant and waved her hand. “You come back later.”
Once the attendant withdrew, Feng Muya scanned Shen Zhuo up and down.
“Heat over? Hasn’t it not been three days yet?”
Shen Zhuo shook his head, his cheeks and the corners of his eyes all red.
Feng Muya frowned. “Then you guys…?”
Shen Zhuo finally built up enough mental fortitude at this moment.
He suddenly looked up at Feng Muya, startling her, and stammered so much he stuttered:
“I-I… I didn’t interrupt you guys, huh…”
Shen Zhuo’s face was determined, his articulation clear: “Give the document to my Hubby; he will read it.”
The word “Hubby” came out, and Feng Muya felt a phantom pain in her knee.
!!
Hiss!
I seem to have heard something I shouldn’t have! I’m about to be silenced, right!!
Just as Feng Muya’s expression control failed, the door opened wider, and another tall figure appeared behind the boy.
Du Feng embraced the boy, pulling him back into the room. Then he snatched the document from Feng Muya’s hand. Before closing the door with his hand, he gave her an indifferent glance:
“You can go now.”
Feng Muya, stunned for a moment: “…”
Feng Muya, suddenly realizing something: “………”
Fine.
Fine!
Am I also a part of your play!
Feng Muya lifted her skirt, her high heels making angry sounds on the gray-white marble floor.
Du Feng closed the door, looked at the little Omega standing to the side fiddling with his fingers, rubbed his hair, and laughed:
“What’s wrong?”
Shen Zhuo looked up then. “You’re not sad anymore, right?”
Du Feng nodded, admitting it. “Not sad anymore.”
The boy finally breathed a sigh of relief and opened his arms.
“Then, hug.”
Du Feng bent down, scooping Shen Zhuo up by the legs into the crook of his arm. The soft, warm bundle pressed against him.
The boy wrapped his arms around his neck, smiling incredibly happily.
“Not for any other reason, nor because of the heat.”
The Omega’s eyes curved into crescents. He lowered his head and kissed the man’s forehead, their soft breaths intertwining.
It was so passionate yet incomparably serene.
“Because I love you, and I want to have a child with you.”
“Our child.”
Shen Zhuo stared solemnly into Du Feng’s eyes and said slowly:
“Du Feng, I love you.”
For some reason, hearing this sentence made Du Feng’s eyes feel hot.
His gray-blue pupils contracted, and the darkness in the depths of his eyes dispersed a little.
The man lifted his head, pressing his lips against the boy’s pink, moist ones.
Holding the boy, he strode into the bedroom. Just as Du Feng placed him on the bed and prepared to continue “working hard,” there was a knock on the door.
Shen Zhuo frowned, displeased. “Who is it…”
Du Feng pulled the nearby quilt over the boy before going to open the door.
Outside were doctors pushing a lot of equipment. Seeing Du Feng, they bowed respectfully. “Your Majesty.”
Du Feng gave a hum and glanced unobtrusively into the room.
The boy had already pushed the quilt aside and was sitting on the bed, staring at the door with dissatisfaction. His hair was sticking up messily, his face flushed, and the corners of his eyes wet and pink.
“Who is it?”
A squeamish tone, completely different from his usual noble aloofness.
The doctors were all Betas, so they weren’t affected by the pheromones in the air, but they exchanged secret glances.
Hiss, His Majesty actually eats this well in private!!
“Before you enter, don’t forget what I told you earlier,” Du Feng warned again. “Otherwise…”
“Yes, Your Majesty. We absolutely will not speak of anything we see today.” The leading doctor hurriedly put away his gossiping thoughts and pushed the equipment inside.
Du Feng closed the door, walked to Shen Zhuo, and spoke gently:
“Let’s do a checkup together, okay?”
Facing Shen Zhuo’s puzzled expression, the man explained patiently:
“To see when we can conceive a baby.”
