Chapter 46: Just Go Die
Cheng Ge had forgotten how he and Wen Ling returned to the dorm. He was spacing out the whole way.
Too terrifying. The creature known as Wen Ling was too dangerous.
Cheng Ge felt it couldn’t go on like this. He had a strong premonition that if he allowed himself to interact with Wen Ling like this, the consequences might be unbearable for him…
During this period just after the start of school, there were fewer regular classes and more activities, mostly lectures on fraud prevention, safety education, and life planning.
Although Cheng Ge and Wen Ling were in different classes, because they had the same major, these activities were attended by both classes together. So Wen Ling and Cheng Ge met quite often, and for not a short duration.
Wen Ling didn’t generate too much dissatisfaction or unease, but after a few weeks, Wen Ling suddenly realized something was different.
The time Wen Ling could spend with Cheng Ge was getting less and less. Most importantly, Wen Ling realized belatedly that Cheng Ge seemed to be avoiding him.
Vaguely, it took a long time for Wen Ling to sense it. He thought it wasn’t because he was too obtuse or dumb, but because Cheng Ge’s distancing was also silent and meticulously designed—leaving just as he came.
In uninhabited corners, Cheng Ge would actively hug him and kiss him, but at the same time avoided his active kisses and avoided his gaze. Even if Wen Ling forced eye contact with Cheng Ge, Cheng Ge would act as if nothing happened, grinning and asking him, “What are you doing?”
They would still eat together. Cheng Ge would initiate topics and talk continuously, but Wen Ling found problems with the logic of Cheng Ge’s speech; the previous sentence and the next had absolutely no relation.
Later he understood. Cheng Ge’s mind wasn’t on the conversation at all. It was like forcibly finding some meaningless topics to fill the entire time slot.
Cheng Ge always smiled at him, but it was different from before, very different. His eyes were always wandering elsewhere.
What followed was Cheng Ge being busy, very busy. It was the reduction in the number of meals together, the shortening of hugs and kisses. It was Cheng Ge starting to study with others, Cheng Ge getting along well with his roommates and classmates.
But Cheng Ge really was busy, and Cheng Ge really treated Wen Ling very well, meticulously, leaving Wen Ling unable to pick out a single fault. In the end, it seemed like he was overthinking, making trouble out of nothing.
Jealousy and unease were about to drown Wen Ling’s reason. The thought of “locking Cheng Ge up” was stronger than ever before, but the reason suppressing this impulse was also tightening constantly. The two complex extremes tore at each other repeatedly, torturing him all the time.
Wen Ling was always afraid Cheng Ge would break his promise, would leave again, leaving him forever, and in the end, he would grasp nothing.
The nights began to become longer and longer.
“Wen Ling, I’m leaving. You… take good care of yourself.” Cheng Ge stood in the endless darkness, carrying a sliver of light on his body.
“No! You said you would stay with me forever!” Wen Ling chased desperately, but could only watch helplessly as Cheng Ge walked away quickly, that point of light dissipating rapidly into the darkness.
“You lied again!” Wen Ling tripped in the darkness and fell to the ground.
Woke up.
Wen Ling casually wiped away the moisture on his eyelashes, shook his heavy head irritably a few times, turned on his phone and glanced at the screen. Cheng Ge had sent him a message: “Good morning [Sun] I’m going to class. Remember to eat breakfast.”
Cheng Ge would say this every day.
Wen Ling glanced at the time. 9:06, Friday.
Insomnia until dawn last night, falling asleep around five o’clock. Half-asleep, he had two nightmares again. Waking up with a splitting headache, his whole body lacked strength. Wen Ling felt he had a fever, but he didn’t want to care about it.
Wen Ling got out of bed. After a simple wash, he changed clothes, threw his pajamas back onto the bed, climbed up the ladder to close the bed curtains, and fell directly down when climbing down due to dizziness.
Didn’t hurt.
Ji Ji and Zhao Zhishen were long gone from the dorm. Wen Ling locked the door, put the key back in the window inside, carried his backpack, and slowly walked out of the dorm building.
Wen Ling lingered at the breakfast stall for a moment. Not wanting to eat anything, he left without buying anything.
Wen Ling watched the two dots on the phone positioning getting closer and closer, nearly overlapping when reaching the classroom.
Then he would watch the two dots slowly separate, one in the classroom, one in the library or dorm.
It was like this every time.
“Student, is there anyone beside you?” A gray backpack was placed on the desk, extremely close to Wen Ling’s backpack.
“No.” Wen Ling took back his backpack.
“Then can I sit beside you?” The boy was already standing beside Wen Ling as he spoke.
“Mn.”
Lin Yuchen was somewhat pleasantly surprised. He didn’t expect Wen Ling, who looked cold and unapproachable, to be so easy to talk to. It made him wait for an opportunity for so many days in vain.
Only, before his butt could touch the bench, Wen Ling poured a basin of cold water on him on the spot—Wen Ling directly left and sat in the next group.
Lin Yuchen sneered in his heart. Not only aloof but also quite temperamental. However, he just liked the challenging ones.
Lin Yuchen was bisexual, eating both men and women. His ideal type had never been fixed. So far, Wen Ling was the one who suited his appetite the most among those he had met.
It was strange to say; clearly having been in the same class for two years, he had never noticed Wen Ling before. Only this semester did he discover their class had such a good-looking person. Looking obedient and cool, fair and tender skin, facial features without a single fault. Even Nuwa would have to praise herself for having a pair of incomparably dexterous hands upon seeing such an exquisite masterpiece.
Especially the temperament and feeling on Wen Ling. The more he dug, the more interesting it became. At first, he just thought he was obedient, immediately changing to introverted and silent. Later, he felt he was peaceful and distant to everyone, always immersed in his own world. Now, he found the person’s temper wasn’t very good, probably very stubborn.
Lin Yuchen wasn’t discouraged at all. He had never failed in pursuing someone. Pestering like this was never wrong.
He picked up his backpack and walked to Wen Ling’s side again, smiling at Wen Ling. “It’s too far to the side over there, can’t see the blackboard clearly.”
Wen Ling didn’t say anything more and moved to the corner of the first row in the next group, but that boy followed again.
Wen Ling hated being close to or touching anyone other than Cheng Ge, so he always sat in the empty area of the first row.
But this person today… the first row was full of empty seats, why did he insist on sitting beside him? It was clearly intentional.
And he had already made concessions twice just now.
Wen Ling’s body was already unbearably hot from the fever, his head still hurting, dizzy and uncomfortable to the extreme. And this man was still being an eyesore in front of him.
Wen Ling put down his phone and glared at Lin Yuchen. “Go away.”
Lin Yuchen was grinning, his tone very gentle: “This isn’t your private seat. Student, isn’t it bad for you to chase people away like this?”
“Go away, I want to get out.” Wen Ling stood up, his tone even worse. To his left was the wall, he couldn’t get out, and his right was tightly blocked by Lin Yuchen.
Lin Yuchen felt Wen Ling today was excessively good-looking. His broken hair was a bit long, covering his brows and eyes slightly, making his palm-sized face look even smaller. The originally fair corners of his eyes and cheeks were dyed red, his eyes containing a layer of unevaporated moisture. Eyelashes long and curled, paired with that angry little expression—especially enticing.
Hearing Wen Ling’s fierce voice that carried a nasal tone, Lin Yuchen felt the tip of his heart tremble, like he was bullying a pitiful, stubborn, and cute kitten.
“But class is about to start, where are you going?” Lin Yuchen sat in the seat, not moving a muscle.
Looking at the decent smile and the opening and closing mouth of the person in front of him, the anger in Wen Ling’s stomach doubled. He really wanted to take a knife and cut it off.
Break his legs, fold them up, and throw him out. Even touching him felt disgusting… Wen Ling thought while packing the books on the desk. When he zipped up his backpack and prepared to jump directly over the desk to get out, his hand was tightly grabbed by Lin Yuchen.
Wen Ling’s eyes darkened.
Cut off his hands too.
Just go die.
At the same time, Wen Ling suddenly saw the two dots on the phone positioning, which should have been separated, actually getting closer and closer. Now they became two dots stuck together.
…Cheng Ge?
“Do you have a fever?”
The familiar voice made Wen Ling’s brain, which was already hot as magma, completely jam.
