Chapter 16: Psychological Consultation
Wen Yuhuai didn’t expect him to pull this. He was stumped instantly, scratching his ears and cheeks for a good while before replying: [Then why didn’t you come to see me today?]
As soon as the message was sent, a phone call came in.
Jiang Jing looked at him. “Who is it?”
Wen Yuhuai answered truthfully, “Lin Shiyu.”
Jiang Jing nodded and got up to walk out, leaving the space to them. “I’ll go check where the housekeeper is. You guys talk.”
Wen Yuhuai tapped answer, but there was only empty white noise on the other end; no one spoke.
Wen Yuhuai couldn’t help speaking first. “Why call and not speak? Busy?”
This guy seemed to be starting a business recently; he should be quite busy.
After another few seconds, a voice finally came through the receiver, though it sounded inexplicably hoarse. “No.”
Wen Yuhuai relaxed. He exited the call interface to check other people’s messages, chatting with him casually. “How is the company developing? Do you want Gege to invest and support you?”
He called himself Dad one moment and Big Brother the next, even though in reality, he was less than a month older than the other.
Lin Shiyu gripped the phone tighter involuntarily. He wanted to agree so he could use the company as an excuse to get close to him in the future. But after a moment of silence, he refused.
His voice carried a hint of cynical laughter as usual, incredibly flirtatious. “My temple is too small to house a great Buddha like you. Wait a bit longer. It won’t be too late for you to come when I’ve built the company up.”
Not now. The Lin family was pressuring him, not to mention the external pressure from various sides. The risk was too high. He didn’t want Wen Yuhuai to suffer any losses, even knowing he didn’t lack money.
He deserved the best. Better not let him laugh at this mess.
Wen Yuhuai fiddled with a bunch of tulips on the bedside table, saying in boredom, “Brother Jian and the others have already been here. When are you coming?”
Before the other side could answer, he added, “Forget it, you’d better not come.”
Lin Shiyu’s breath hitched violently, his mind going blank for an instant. “Why?”
Wen Yuhuai coughed twice and educated him earnestly. “You are starting a business now; of course, career comes first. I’m fine anyway and will be discharged in two days. I’ll organize a gathering then to celebrate. Just don’t forget to come that day.”
Lin Shiyu gave a soft “Mn.” His voice carried a careless smile. “Rest assured. Even if it rains knives that day, I will go.”
Wen Yuhuai scoffed. “What raining knives? If you can’t speak properly, shut your mouth early… Alright, not chatting with you anymore. I’m going to eat.”
The other side agreed smoothly. Wen Yuhuai hung up just as Jiang Jing and the housekeeper came in carrying a thermal bucket.
“Finished chatting?”
Wen Yuhuai nodded, his gaze uncontrollably landing on the thermal bucket. “Haven’t had Auntie Chen’s soup in a long time.”
Auntie Chen had been with the Wen family since Wen Yuhuai was small. Her cooking skills were impeccable, comparable to star chefs in restaurants outside.
“As long as Young Master likes it.” Auntie Chen smiled until her wrinkles bloomed like a flower. She placed the thermal bucket on the bedside table, busily serving him a bowl, and quickly served one for Jiang Jing too.
Wen Yuhuai held the bowl and drank slowly. The more he drank, the more he felt the food he ate during that half-month of kidnapping was simply pig swill.
Although he used to like that restaurant quite a bit, he couldn’t stand eating it continuously no matter how much he liked it—especially for half a month straight, three meals a day.
He decided to temporarily blacklist that restaurant. Just thinking about their sign now made him lose his appetite.
After eating, the auntie took the thermal bucket home. Jiang Jing wanted to stay but was shooed away by Wen Yuhuai. “It’s not like I’m bedridden and can’t move. Why stay? Go home with Auntie Chen.”
Only he was left in the huge ward.
Wen Yuhuai chased everyone away because he naturally had his own business to attend to. He looked around guiltily like a thief, and only then did he rest assured and type “online psychologist consultation” into the phone’s search bar.
He wasn’t just saying he wanted to see a psychologist; he meant it. Discover problems early, solve them early. What if he became mentally twisted in the future?
He downloaded a relevant app and entered directly as a guest, going to the rankings to find the top-ranked and most expensive psychological counselor.
As the saying goes, cheap goods aren’t good. The expensive ones should be more reliable, right?
There was a tip button on the app. Wen Yuhuai thought about it and tipped a thousand first.
Soon, a smiley face was sent back. [Good evening, Sir.]
Wen Yuhuai also replied with a smiling emoji.
The other side continued to message: [Hello, Sir. May I ask what problem you need to consult about? Or if there is something weighing on your mind, you can chat with me. Our chat records follow strict confidentiality principles; you don’t need to worry about leaks.]
Wen Yuhuai replied out of reflex: [It’s not me, it’s a friend of mine. He encountered some problems.]
The psychologist continued to smile: [Okay, then may I ask what psychological problem your friend encountered?]
Wen Yuhuai typed and deleted, taking a long time before sending a paragraph. [He was kidnapped by a man a while ago. That man did some bad things to him, causing him to be a bit mentally abnormal now.]
Psychologist: [This is a very common situation. May I ask, is your friend male or female?]
Wen Yuhuai: [Male.]
Psychologist: [Okay. Then do you know how your friend has become mentally abnormal?]
This question was even harder. Wen Yuhuai racked his brains for a long time before replying: [He now feels physiological discomfort whenever he sees a man. He even feels this way when seeing his former best friends.]
This time, the psychologist didn’t reply instantly. Instead, after a while, he sent a location.
[This situation is a very common post-traumatic stress response. It mainly depends on the severity. This is the location of my private clinic. If Sir has time, you can come find me, and we can chat face-to-face.]
Wen Yuhuai emphasized: [Not me. It’s a friend of mine.]
The psychologist corrected himself smoothly: [Okay, Sir. If your friend has time, he is welcome to come here to find me anytime.]
Wen Yuhuai was satisfied. He continued messaging: [Are there any countermeasures for this situation?]
Psychologist: [The first thing to do in this situation is desensitization. As you said earlier, your friend feels physiological discomfort toward his former best friends. Here, I suggest you have more contact with your best friends and attempt gradual desensitization.]
Wen Yuhuai was unhappy. Tapping away on the keyboard, he continued to emphasize: [It’s not me. It’s a friend of mine.]
