Chapter 91: Make You Call Me Brother (11)
Xiao Ji and Gu Yinnian walked in front.
Song Zhi and Lin Mo lagged more than two meters behind.
“Is your roommate easy to get along with? He looks a bit fierce; I’m kind of afraid to talk to him,” Song Zhi whispered to Lin Mo.
Lin Mo thought about Ren Jin, who had just been verbally smacked down by Gu Yinnian not long ago, and answered rigorously:
“It might not just be looks. But if you don’t provoke him, he should be easy enough to get along with.”
After saying that, he politely asked in return:
“What about Xiao Ji? Is he easy to get along with?”
Song Zhi recalled the afternoon and spoke honestly. “I don’t think it has much to do with being easy to get along with or not…”
“He barely talks. He answers if asked, but if I don’t speak, I feel like I can’t even hear him breathing.”
Hearing this, Lin Mo suddenly laughed. “Then he and Gu Yinnian should be a good match.”
The four of them arrived at the barbecue restaurant Song Zhi had mentioned. Lin Mo and Song Zhi consciously sat on one side, leaving the seats on the other side for Gu Yinnian and Xiao Ji.
Gu Yinnian first handed the menu to Lin Mo and Song Zhi. After they finished ordering, he took the menu back, casually added a few meat dishes, and asked the waiter to take the menu away.
Lin Mo asked tentatively:
“Xiao Ji isn’t going to look?”
Gu Yinnian’s understanding of Xiao Ji was extremely thorough.
Since childhood, Xiao Ji seemed to have no sense of taste. He ate whatever was given to him and was never picky. His consistent policy for ordering food was: whatever Gu Yinnian ate, he ate.
Since Xiao Ji remained silent, Gu Yinnian answered for him:
“He won’t look. He eats whatever I eat.”
Xiao Ji nodded, cooperating perfectly.
It was the start of the school term, so whether it was the cafeteria or the snack street, everywhere was overcrowded.
Not long after the four sat down, the barbecue shop filled up, packing the already cramped space.
Gu Yinnian and Xiao Ji’s superior appearances quickly attracted a lot of attention. However, perhaps due to shyness or the large crowd, no one came up to disturb them.
Xiao Ji was quiet to the point of non-existence, while Gu Yinnian and Lin Mo chatted quite well together. Song Zhi chipped in occasionally, making the overall atmosphere fairly harmonious.
When it was time to pay, because Gu Yinnian was sitting on the inside against the wall and Xiao Ji was on the outside, Gu Yinnian simply slid his phone over to Xiao Ji and said:
“You go.”
Xiao Ji glanced at Gu Yinnian’s phone. “Didn’t you say you were spending my money?”
Gu Yinnian looked at him. “Isn’t it your money?”
The year Xiao Ji left home, he had transferred a large sum of money to Chen Lan. Gu Yinnian knew about this.
Although the Gu family wasn’t exceedingly wealthy, they were better off than many; they could fully cover the family’s daily expenses and Gu Yinnian’s tuition.
Chen Lan was used to being frugal. She accepted the money but kept it untouched in the card, saving it for emergencies.
Most importantly, Chen Lan always believed that Alphas should be raised in poverty (to build character), so she never allowed Gu Yinnian to spend lavishly.
After Xiao Ji found out, he secretly deposited a fixed amount of pocket money into Gu Yinnian’s personal card every month, hiding it from Chen Lan and her husband.
At first, Gu Yinnian resisted.
Although his family had raised Xiao Ji, they hadn’t done it for repayment.
But Xiao Ji said that if Gu Yinnian didn’t take it, he would just waste it, so it was better for Gu Yinnian to keep it for him.
Only then did Gu Yinnian agree, treating it as if he were saving money for Xiao Ji.
That was what Gu Yinnian meant now.
Xiao Ji didn’t argue. He picked up Gu Yinnian’s phone and went to the counter to pay.
Song Zhi watched in confusion. “Wait, you two even know each other’s phone passwords?”
Mentioning this suddenly made Gu Yinnian unhappy.
“I don’t know his.”
Since getting his first electronic device, Gu Yinnian had exclusively used Xiao Ji’s birthday for all his passwords. whenever he changed phones or got a new computer, he would immediately tell Xiao Ji that the password hadn’t changed.
Xiao Ji used to reciprocate.
But when they met today, Gu Yinnian noticed Xiao Ji had a new phone and hadn’t told him. Nor had he mentioned anything about the password.
Gu Yinnian felt that Xiao Ji had grown up, had his own thoughts, and had become estranged from him.
Hearing Song Zhi’s question now, a inexplicable bitterness welled up in him.
On the other side, Xiao Ji, holding Gu Yinnian’s phone to pay, was completely unaware of this.
He had just finished paying and received the receipt when he turned around to find an Alpha standing next to him—tall, sturdy, with a buzz cut and decent looks.
The guy smiled at Xiao Ji, flashing a row of white teeth; he didn’t look annoying.
“Classmate, can I take two minutes of your time?”
Xiao Ji was confused. “What is it?”
The Alpha nodded. “I’m with the school’s photography club. I wanted to ask if you’d be interested in being our…”
“Photography?” Xiao Ji interrupted him.
Seeing Xiao Ji seemed interested, the Alpha swallowed the word “model” back down.
He nodded. “Ah, yes.”
Xiao Ji had no interest in photography, but Gu Yinnian did.
When Gu Yinnian first differentiated, Father Gu had given him a camera. Unfortunately, that camera had captured many landscapes, streets, and passersby, but never Xiao Ji.
Xiao Ji thought for a moment. “Is there an interview? Are there equipment requirements?”
The Alpha waved his hands hurriedly. “Normally yes, but if you’re willing to join, it’s our honor. You don’t need to worry about equipment; if you’re interested, I can lend you mine.”
At that moment, Gu Yinnian’s peripheral vision was fixed on Xiao Ji.
Not just him—Lin Mo and Song Zhi saw the scene too.
Song Zhi didn’t think much of it and clicked his tongue in admiration.
“Being good-looking really has its advantages. School hasn’t even started, and an Alpha is already hitting on Xiao Ji. He’s quite handsome, too.”
Lin Mo instinctively glanced at Gu Yinnian. He couldn’t read anything from his face, but his intuition screamed that Gu Yinnian was definitely not as calm as he looked.
He coughed lightly. “Psh, how handsome can he be? He’s miles behind my Brother Nian.”
Song Zhi didn’t deny that. “True. But that Alpha looks pretty easygoing; he keeps smiling.”
Gu Yinnian remained silent, his eyes locked dead on Xiao Ji.
Lin Mo kicked Song Zhi under the table. “What are you saying? Is my Brother Nian hard to get along with?”
