Chapter 137: Making Him Look Foolish
They didn’t return to school but went directly to a nearby hotel.
Having been apart for a lifetime, Gu Huaiye missed Xie Miaohan terribly and couldn’t help but cling to him. If he didn’t have to drive, he would have pasted himself onto Xie Miaohan completely.
Xie Miaohan’s face was somewhat pale. When Gu Huaiye noticed, he frowned slightly.
“Apply to move out of the dorms,” Gu Huaiye said while driving. “I plan to rent a house. Come live with me.”
He would hire a housekeeper to come cook on time every day, helping Xie Miaohan nurse his health back to normal.
“Is that okay?” Xie Miaohan began to feel anxious again, his voice quiet. “Should we wait a bit…”
“No waiting,” Gu Huaiye interrupted him directly, his attitude somewhat forceful. “I know what you’re thinking. You’re afraid I’m only saying this to save your life.”
The old Gu Huaiye might not have understood Xie Miaohan.
Xie Miaohan always liked to hide his true feelings deep inside. Gu Huaiye couldn’t guess his meaning and could only speculate based on his cold attitude. That was what led to the mutual torture of their first life.
In the second life, Gu Huaiye stopped trusting Xie Miaohan and fled from him regardless of the cost.
It wasn’t until he accidentally traveled to Xie Miaohan’s childhood that he understood the man’s sensitive heart. The inferiority complex developed since childhood made Xie Miaohan afraid to speak of love easily, and afraid to fully accept love from others.
“I admit, in the past, I would make irresponsible decisions on impulse. But it’s different now. I’ve experienced your death. I’ve discovered that whether it’s a rut period or having children, compared to losing you, those issues aren’t even worth mentioning.”
Xie Miaohan lowered his eyes and spoke with difficulty. “I didn’t know you would regain your memories. I thought you wouldn’t be reborn again.”
If he had known Gu Huaiye would be reborn, he probably would have run to a place Gu Huaiye couldn’t find and continued living.
“Regardless of whether I’m reborn or not, you shouldn’t punish yourself like this.” Gu Huaiye squeezed Xie Miaohan’s hand with his free hand, unable to suppress his curiosity. “When exactly were you reborn? I asked you before, and you always avoided the topic.”
Xie Miaohan thought for a moment, glancing cautiously at Gu Huaiye out of the corner of his eye.
“The first time was when you came to register at the school. Later, it was half a year before school started.”
Gu Huaiye: !!!
“I knew it! I always felt something was off about you back then. You were always appearing in front of me and cozying up to Chen Zirui. You clearly disliked Chen Zirui, so how could you be so kind-hearted as to help him?”
Hearing this, Xie Miaohan couldn’t help but clench his fist.
“You hid it pretty deep. I was almost fooled by you.”
Xie Miaohan breathed a sigh of relief.
Thankfully, Gu Huaiye didn’t press him about the incident at the shooting range. If Gu Huaiye knew he had deliberately tampered with the gun and almost hurt Chen Zirui, they probably wouldn’t be discussing these topics so warmly right now.
“I discovered early on that you had been reborn, so I wanted to change my approach to getting close to you.”
Gu Huaiye: “……”
That made him look very foolish.
As soon as they arrived at the hotel, Gu Huaiye couldn’t wait to hug Xie Miaohan.
He pushed him onto the bed, pressing down to kiss him.
Xie Miaohan was clearly surprised. His body remained stiff for a moment before he wrapped his arms around Gu Huaiye’s waist.
Gu Huaiye kissed with intensity, as if trying to make up for the missed past life. His hands were restless, slipping inside Xie Miaohan’s clothes, caressing skin that felt somewhat hot to the touch.
Gu Huaiye paused, releasing Xie Miaohan.
He placed the back of his hand against Xie Miaohan’s forehead, his brows knitting together. Xie Miaohan let him do as he pleased, staring at Gu Huaiye with an obsessed gaze.
“You have a fever,” Gu Huaiye said. “No wonder you look so pale. Lie down quickly.”
Just as Gu Huaiye pressed Xie Miaohan onto the bed, Xie Miaohan immediately grabbed his wrist, his tone laced with obvious anxiety.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to make a call. Lu Zishi has a friend who is a doctor; I can have him come over.”
Xie Miaohan gripped him tighter, his voice trembling. “Is this a dream?”
Gu Huaiye’s nose stung with emotion. He sat on the edge of the bed and gently stroked Xie Miaohan’s hair.
“It’s not a dream. It’s real.” Gu Huaiye pinched Xie Miaohan’s cheek and smiled faintly. “Does it hurt?”
“It doesn’t hurt.” Xie Miaohan shook his head. “You can slap me.”
Gu Huaiye almost lost his composure. He couldn’t really bully a sick person. Besides, he had long suspected this guy had some masochistic tendencies, always asking to be hit.
“It really isn’t a dream.” Gu Huaiye leaned in and kissed Xie Miaohan gently on the lips. “Do you feel it? This is real.”
Xie Miaohan finally let go of him.
Gu Huaiye smiled, lowering his head to tuck Xie Miaohan’s hand under the quilt. Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of the scars on Xie Miaohan’s wrist. There were several, some deep, some shallow.
Gu Huaiye’s eyes grew sore, but he said nothing, simply tucking the hand away.
Xie Miaohan hadn’t wanted to live in the first place; asking about the origin of the scars would only be rubbing salt in the wound. As long as he was okay from now on, that was enough.
“Have a good sleep. The doctor will be here soon.”
Xie Miaohan was silent for a while before saying to Gu Huaiye, “I really didn’t know my suicide would cause you pain.”
“I know,” Gu Huaiye said gently. “Let’s not talk about that anymore.”
Gu Huaiye walked a bit further away. Just as he was about to make the call, his phone vibrated.
It was a call from Chen Zirui.
Gu Huaiye’s face lit up, and he quickly answered. Before he could speak, Chen Zirui’s worried voice rang out from the other end.
“Brother Gu, where did you go?! I heard from your driver that you took the car and left. I couldn’t reach you at all.”
Chen Zirui’s voice was loud. Gu Huaiye instinctively moved the phone away from his ear and glanced at Xie Miaohan on the bed.
He lowered his voice. “I had an emergency and couldn’t answer the phone in time.”
“What was so urgent that you dumped your luggage at the school gate and just left?” Chen Zirui sensed something was wrong. “And why are you suddenly whispering? Is there someone next to you?”
“It’s a long story. I’ll explain when I get back to school.”
“Eh? Aren’t you coming back to register now?”
“No, I have something to do.”
Gu Huaiye paused, then choked up slightly. “I’m very happy to receive your call again.”
“Huh? What do you mean?” Chen Zirui was completely confused.
“I’ll tell you when I get back.”
After hanging up, Gu Huaiye immediately called Lu Zishi. He didn’t have time to explain much, simply instructing him to bring his doctor friend to the hotel.
Lu Zishi assumed Gu Huaiye was sick and didn’t dare delay, quickly calling his friend.
After handling everything, Lu Zishi suddenly realized something.
How did the Young Master know he had a doctor friend? Did he accidentally mention it before?
