Sentinel & Guide: From Pariah to Heartthrob Chapter 8

Chapter 8: She Seems Like a Different Person

Noticing their Commander sweeping a cool glance toward them—green eyes that clearly held no emotion yet made one panic—the dark-skinned Sentinel stood up and blurted out:

“It wasn’t me!”

As soon as he said it, he felt incredibly stupid. It was practically an admission of guilt. Just as he was about to say something to smooth it over, Chi Wan, sitting beside him, picked up the thread and said with a face full of seriousness:

“It wasn’t me either!”

The dark-skinned Sentinel froze, looking down at Chi Wan, who was also a bit flustered.

Her large eyes blinked frantically in fear, and her brows were slightly furrowed, giving her a look of natural, dazed innocence.

The dark-skinned Sentinel’s pupils dilated, and for a moment, he even forgot to be afraid.

She’s so cute…

Not just him—all the other Sentinels were captivated by Chi Wan’s dazed and adorable appearance.

What a cute Guide.

How could they have found her annoying before? She was clearly approachable and adorable!

For a moment, the surrounding Sentinels looked at Chi Wan like a pack of hungry wolves spotting a little lamb, their gazes thick with intensity.

She could even see the phantom tails of some Sentinels wagging incessantly and their ears twitching.

Chi Wan backed away, a little frightened.

“Come here.”

Qi Ye’s voice restrained the Sentinels somewhat. Chi Wan walked toward Qi Ye step by step.

“That is your rest room.”

Looking in the direction he pointed, she remembered that the original host was extremely repulsed by close contact with these Sentinels and demanded a separate room during rest breaks.

She didn’t refuse. As a college student who had never even dated, she really couldn’t accept sleeping in a room with a bunch of grown men.

The night deepened, and the Sentinels began to rest one after another.

Sentinels with high-level Mental Power were relatively lighter sleepers. Even with the Guide’s mental barrier, their senses remained extremely keen.

Qi Ye didn’t sleep.

He walked onto the balcony and looked down at the world, obscured by the night and the pollution fog.

Countless pollution Specters came at him with ferocious faces.

Most were blocked by Chi Wan’s mental barrier. The very few that broke through were torn to shreds by the spiritual Silver Python behind him.

After the massive snake body crushed a Specter to death, it lay quietly dormant behind Qi Ye.

Looking at the mental barrier, which seemed to be getting thicker and stronger, Qi Ye’s eyes showed a hint of surprise.

During the last night battle with her, the mental barrier had almost inevitably weakened to the point of shattering as she fell asleep. He hadn’t slept at all that night, killing Specters till dawn.

But tonight… it was clearly different.

Leaning against the railing, his gaze moved from the window of the rest room to the interior.

In the dim light, the petite girl was nodding off with sleepiness, yet she didn’t forget to reinforce the mental barrier from time to time.

His gaze darkened slightly.

She really had changed.

This difference gave him the feeling that the person before him was someone else entirely.

As he pondered, he saw her doze off, her head hitting the table. She immediately scrunched up her small face, covering her forehead in pain.

Qi Ye looked away, unaware of the faint smile that had surfaced in his eyes.

The next day.

After a brief reorganization, the main force continued their advance.

This time, they ventured deep into the mine area.

The ore mined at Factory 031 was Purple Ore, a non-metallic ore unique to Planet A-73. It could be used to manufacture bulletproof glass that resisted pollution fog and was extremely precious.

“Great news, Commander! There are still mining tunnels that haven’t been destroyed.”

Hearing Hei Mi’s excited report, Qi Ye led the troops deeper into the tunnel zone.

“Commander, it’s Poison Scorpion Weed!”

The dark-skinned Sentinel whispered urgently.

In the crowd, Chi Wan poked her little head out to look down.

The walls of the mine were covered in black pollution plants. The buds of these plants all extended long, dangerous black spikes resembling scorpion tails.

“Poison Scorpion Weed is extremely aggressive. Even an SS-rank Sentinel might not be able to retreat unscathed, let alone with this many of them.”

“Commander, if Guide Chi Wan follows, she’ll definitely be attacked by the poisonous spikes.”

These Sentinels were thick-skinned and tough, having fought pollution entities in the fog for years, so they had some resistance to pollution toxins. Guides were different; once stung, it meant a serious illness at the very least.

Hearing this, Qi Ye looked at Chi Wan at the back of the crowd.

“Wait for us here.”

The other Sentinels quickly placed some backpacks on the ground.

“Guide Chi Wan, sorry to trouble you, but please watch our supplies!”

“Okay, I’ll watch them carefully.”

After a chorus of thanks, the group of Sentinels ventured deeper into the mine.

Sensing the approach of the Sentinels, the Poison Scorpion Weed extended their scorpion-tail spikes, densely packing the area.

But the Sentinels were well-trained. Dividing into a dozen small squads with the long-blade unit at the front, they quickly fought their way in.

Chi Wan’s optical computer chimed with a message at that moment.

It was from the Chi family. Her nominal father, Chi Yuzhou, the head of the Chi family and an SSS-rank powerhouse of the galaxy.

Chi Yuzhou: [Baby Wanwan, just say the word and I’ll immediately send someone to transfer you back, and I will strictly demand the Federation punish those seven Commanders!]

Chi Yuzhou: [So what if they are the seven strongest bases? The Chi family holds the commercial lifeline of the entire galaxy. Half the bases in the Federation have ties with me. Whoever dares to make my precious daughter suffer, I will not let them off!]

Chi Yuzhou: [Baby Wanwan, reply to Daddy when you see this. Dad is very worried about you.]

Chi Wan felt a bit nervous. She remembered now that this joint operation of the seven major bases was the Special Class Mission most watched by the Interstellar Federation.

A special task force formed by hundreds of bases in the Federation was closely monitoring the information and requests of the X-K Alliance.

And they paid special attention to her, this SSS-rank Guide.

Added to her father’s status and connections, the Federation was practically giving her open privileges.

It would be fine if she didn’t know she was a fake, but she was the fake heiress who would soon be kicked out of the Chi family. She felt unworthy of such partiality and care.

Chi Wan opened her feedback panel.

It displayed all the feedback from the original host over the past eighteen days—

Original Host’s Day 1 Feedback: [Cang Lin was disrespectful to me. I demand he be replaced.]

Federation Response: [Respected Guide Chi Wan, Commander Cang Lin is currently the only Super SSS-rank Sentinel in the galaxy. We especially need him for this Special Class Mission. The Federation has received your feedback. We apologize to you on behalf of Commander Cang Lin. We will communicate with him regarding the issue and request he be more respectful. We hope you can quell your anger.]

Original Host’s Day 1 Feedback: [The accommodation conditions here are too poor. I demand everything be replaced with the latest models.]

Federation Response: [We will expedite the delivery of the highest quality accommodation configuration for you, Guide Chi Wan. Expected delivery by spaceship within one day at the latest.]

Original Host’s Day 1 Feedback: [These Commanders aren’t cooperative enough. What the hell? Is this the treatment an SSS-rank Guide gets?]

Federation Response: [We are very sorry, Guide Chi Wan. We will immediately connect with each Commander and instruct them to be more obedient to you.]

The original host had something to complain about almost every single day.

The more Chi Wan read, the more her face burned with shame.

As a Guide receiving special care within a Special Class Mission, the original host not only did evil deeds but also played the victim, constantly snitching on the male leads and feeding back complaints to the Federation.

It was simply…

No wonder her nominal dad was so angry he wanted to bring his daughter back. He probably truly thought his “precious daughter” was suffering greatly here.

Chi Wan couldn’t even find words to roast her anymore.

Her top priority now was to soothe this nominal daddy’s emotions.

Opening the latest feedback panel, Chi Wan seriously edited a message—

[Acted with the Sentinels of C3 Base today. Everyone cooperated very happily. Commander Qi Ye is very amazing.

Worthy of being a top base in the galaxy. Fighting!]

After sending it, she also sent a message to comfort her nominal dad.
