Chapter 11: You Have Bad Breath
Chi Wan was furious.
But in the novel where Ji Ke was the heroine, Chi Wan, as the supporting villainess, did indeed make enemies with Cang Lin very early on.
The head of the Chi family had opposed Cang Lin to back Chi Wan up.
But Cang Lin represented not just A1 Base, but the entire Planet A-3.
The consequence of opposing such a massive force was that the Chi family lost a major business opportunity.
It was precisely because Chi Wan offended people everywhere, making countless enemies for the Chi family, that Chi Yuzhou hated her so much after her identity as the fake heiress was revealed.
Chi Wan swallowed her anger, deciding it was better not to clash with him head-on.
But she wasn’t weak-willed either. Just as she was about to speak up to draw a line between herself and Cang Lin, Qi Ye’s voice drifted out slowly:
“Since Commander Cang detests her so much, she shouldn’t need to go to A1 Base for rotation shifts in the future.”
Seemingly surprised that Qi Ye would say this, interest sparked in Cang Lin’s eyes.
Leaning against the cabin wall, his golden eyes swept toward Qi Ye, meeting those indifferent green eyes that revealed no emotion.
“Naturally.”
“Then good. The rotation shift belonging to A1 Base will now belong to my C3 Base.”
Qi Ye said lazily, the corners of his mouth hooking up in an imperceptible arc.
As if he had picked up a bargain.
Cang Lin scoffed, shaking his head in disdain.
“Fighting your way out of the complex power struggles of the Qi family as an illegitimate son to become the heir, and building a powerful base ranked among the galaxy’s top within two years… Commander Qi, I have always admired you.”
As he spoke, his golden eyes drifted seemingly unintentionally over Chi Wan.
“But this ability to judge people… is truly lacking.”
“You are so noisy.”
The fierce, angry voice, because of its soft and sweet tone, was impossible to dislike.
Both men looked at Chi Wan at the same time.
They saw her puffed-up cheeks and beautiful eyes glaring at Cang Lin as if he were a piece of trash.
“Taller than a sentry tower, arms thicker than a sewer pipe, a big grown man yapping away—blah blah blah blah—filling the whole passenger cabin with your bad breath!”
Cang Lin’s face instantly turned mostly black, then shifted from black to green.
For a moment, he couldn’t find words to retort.
He had bad breath????
Cang Lin looked angrily at Qi Ye, only to see him resting his forehead on his hand, eyes lowered and silent. But no matter how he looked at him, there was a hint of laughter hidden in his eyes.
The vehicle stopped at that moment.
Chi Wan opened the door first and walked down, as if staying in the same space with Cang Lin for a moment longer was bad luck.
Under his angry gaze, she even waved her small hand in front of her nose as she got off.
Scrunched up nose and all, as if she had truly just suffered a biological gas attack.
The next second, Qi Ye also got out of the car.
As soon as he disembarked, he turned to meet Cang Lin’s eyes, which were still lingering with anger.
“The air outside is indeed better.”
The air in the pollution fog was better than the purified air inside the cabin?
Wasn’t this openly mocking him?
Cang Lin’s face darkened another shade.
Li Su, waiting in the temporary safe zone, was met by a dark-faced Cang Lin and the perpetually emotionless Qi Ye.
Behind him, the SSS-rank Guide Chi Wan was hiding most of her body behind Qi Ye, revealing only a small hand.
Seeing her, Li Su’s expression cooled uncontrollably.
Li Su.
The scene of being tortured by her a few days ago was vivid in his mind, making him unwilling to cooperate with her again.
“What’s the situation? Speak.”
“Location is the Lost Forest. Conservative estimate is a Level 7 pollution entity. It has abilities, unpredictable ones, and controls a large number of pollution entities.”
Cang Lin finally regained some composure. Arms crossed, he looked at the pollution markers Li Su synchronized on the optical computer.
“It is very likely protecting a pollution source.”
Pollution sources could continuously release pollution fog. Usually, high-level pollution entities guarded the surroundings of a pollution source.
“Old rules. We kill our way in.”
“No problem.”
“The terrain here is rugged and covers a large area. Everyone, bring supplies and prepare for continuous combat.”
With Li Su’s command, the people from the three bases began preparing supplies.
The Sentinels filled huge backpacks with necessary supplies, food, and medicine, then slung them over their shoulders, lining up column by column to await orders.
The Guides were all positioned at the front of the teams.
“I don’t need her. One SS-rank and one S-rank Guide are enough.”
After counting his own team, Li Su spoke coldly without even looking at Chi Wan’s side.
“The Guides in our team are sufficient as well.”
Behind Cang Lin, two SS-rank Guides were fully equipped.
These Guides were mostly experienced veterans who frequently went into battle with Sentinels.
Given this, Chi Wan’s arrival seemed somewhat superfluous.
Qi Ye lowered his eyes to look at the somewhat dejected little one behind him, his voice low and raspy:
“You follow me the whole time.”
Chi Wan looked up at him.
His words gave her immense affirmation and a sense of being needed. She tightened her grip on her gun.
“Okay.”
She would give it her all.
She would let him know his choice was not wrong.
Chapter 12: This is the Power of an SSS-Rank Guide
The main force began to advance toward the Lost Forest.
The deeper they went, the thicker the pollution fog became.
Such dense pollution fog would inevitably accelerate the rise of pollution levels.
Against the highly penetrative fog, the Interstellar Federation had yet to develop any defensive devices. They could only inject purifiers periodically to cleanse pollution values.
Purifiers had thus become extremely precious.
They hadn’t advanced far when the keen senses of the Sentinels detected a large number of approaching pollution entities.
“Different directions. Flying entities. All units alert.”
With the shout from Li Su, who led the A3 Base, all Sentinels entered combat readiness.
Squeak squeak squeak—!
A massive swarm of albino pollution bats broke through the pollution fog and attacked the group.
These small, dense flying pollution entities were the biggest headache for Sentinels. Once bitten, there was even a risk of death.
Chi Wan immediately released her mental barrier with full force to protect the Sentinel team of C3 Base.
She was cowardly when it was time to be cowardly, but she didn’t hesitate in the slightest when it came to fighting.
Not only did her mental web cover every Sentinel of C3 Base, but she also kept a constant watch on the states of the main combatants, Qi Ye and Hei Mi.
The Sentinels of C3 Base were thus the most formidable in combat. Taking the lead, they quickly outstripped A1 Base and A3 Base, becoming the main force.
[Group Soothing, Combat Value increased!]
[Group Soothing, Combat Value increased!]
[Group Soothing, Combat Value increased!]
With the System’s background noise, Chi Wan was so focused she lost track of herself.
So much so that she didn’t even realize she was unwittingly being dragged forward by the massive snake body.
Seeing C3 Base act so powerfully, the other two bases cast glances their way.
The dark-skinned Sentinel looked smug. In the intervals between fighting, he raised his eyebrows at them and boasted proudly:
“Brothers, see that? This is the power of an SSS-rank Guide!”
This sentence made quite a few Sentinels envious.
Since Chi Wan arrived here, she had been stingy with her Mental Power. She had never been this generous before.
It was their first time truly witnessing the power of an SSS-rank Mental Power Guide.
After exterminating the mass of white pollution bats, they reached the area heavily hit by plant pollution.
The trees, shrubs, and flowers of the past had all mutated.
Chi Wan looked ahead. In the pollution fog, she could only vaguely see the dense, grotesque pollution plants spread like a dragnet.
Their specific shapes and characteristics were unclear.
“Several unknown species, unknown levels. Looks like just the few of us will have to clear the path first.”
Li Su and Qi Ye both agreed with Cang Lin. They each took the ability users from their teams to clear the way ahead.
Qi Ye took Hei Mi and Chi Wan.
Cang Lin took two ability Sentinels and one SS-rank Guide.
Li Su took one ability Sentinel and one SS-rank Guide.
The ten of them separated from the main force and walked forward.
Getting closer, Chi Wan finally saw the pollution plants clearly.
The pollution plants of different varieties had different colors, mostly gray-black and gray-green.
Interwoven together, they had clearly formed a symbiotic relationship.
Sensing the approach of humans, the thick vines of the plants twisted and entangled, reviving like living things.
Bang bang bang—!
Cang Lin fired first. With dual guns in hand, he shot continuously at the roots of the vines.
The two ability users behind him also fired simultaneously.
The net-like vines instantly withered upon losing their roots. However, the ground suddenly trembled, cracking open with fissures.
Immediately after, grotesque, gray-green pollution monsters drilled out from underground and lunged at everyone!
Li Su’s Mental Entity, the Black Lion, roared and charged. Its paws, heavy as mountains, tore apart two pollution entities in an instant.
At the same time, Qi Ye’s Silver Python struck with the force of a thunderbolt.
One wielded a curved blade, the other dual blades; their combat power was supreme.
Just as Chi Wan was absorbed in watching, a terrifying dragon roar seemingly echoed from the horizon.
Then, a massive Black-Gold Dragon flew overhead!
Its body was so huge it blotted out the sun.
In front of these three top-tier Commanders, the other ability users seemed insignificant.
Chi Wan quickly constructed a mental barrier and carefully sensed the mental changes of every Sentinel. The moment there was a sign of turbulence, she soothed it immediately.
By this time, her instinct as a Guide made her forget the earlier team division; she just wanted to protect everyone’s Mental Entities.
Her Mental Power was too strong, making the mental barriers of the other two SS-rank Guides non-existent by comparison.
However, the pollution entities beneath the ground seemed endless.
Just as the third wave of underground pollution entities was wiped out, the towering trees suddenly began to move!
Shocked that these giant trees were also polluted, everyone shifted their targets to the roots.
They tried to chop them down at the base.
Suffering attacks to their roots, the giant trees shook their trunks angrily, their branches sweeping down like living things!
An ability Sentinel was struck by a hard branch and sent flying, crashing heavily to the ground. His Mental Entity, a hound, suffered damage and lost its physical form. The phantom of the hound curled into a ball above the Sentinel’s head, whining in obvious agony.
Damage to the Mental Entity directly caused pain to the Sentinel as well; he curled up on the ground, unable to stand.
Seeing this, an SS-rank Guide immediately went up to help channel him.
Her fine, dense Mental Power tried to soothe the severely damaged hound Mental Entity, but the speed was slow.
The next second, an even more powerful Mental Power, like a gentle tide, wrapped around the hound. In just a few seconds, it was fully restored.
The SS-rank Guide turned her head in shock to look at Chi Wan behind her, only to see Chi Wan smile at her.
The smile was gentle and sweet, like warm sunlight, making it hard not to like her.
The Sentinel whose Mental Entity had recovered wanted to say thanks, but he saw that Chi Wan had already rejoined the battle ahead.
The male lead group was indeed the strongest combat force in the galaxy.
Even with such difficult numbers of pollution trees, they quickly cleared most of them.
After the most vicious pollution giant tree fell, its massive trunk scraped against the Black Dragon, who couldn’t dodge in time, tearing off a large patch of scales.
Cang Lin retreated to the second line in pain. The next instant, he felt his Mental Entity being healed and soothed by a powerful Mental Power.
This familiar, gentle, yet powerful force made his Mental Entity incredibly satisfied.
He looked at Chi Wan, only to see her standing at the back of the team, healing him with a serious face. But his gaze was perhaps too sharp, snapping her out of her focused work mode.
Realizing with a start that she was actually healing Cang Lin, Chi Wan immediately withdrew her Mental Power.
She even crinkled her nose as if she found it extremely bad luck.
Cang Lin’s face turned cold. After losing the Guide’s soothing, the Black Dragon Mental Entity wilted again. The base’s accompanying SS-rank Guide immediately continued the healing.
But having tasted the SSS-rank Mental Power beforehand, the Black Dragon was clearly unsatisfied with the SS-rank Mental Power, its tail sweeping impatiently to express its discontent.
Cang Lin’s brow lowered. “Don’t embarrass me.”
Sensing its master’s dissatisfaction, the Black Dragon behaved itself, though its dragon eyes glanced toward Chi Wan from time to time, hiding a hint of longing in their golden depths.
