Chapter 17: Where is Chi Wan?
Waiting outside, Qi Ye and Cang Lin saw Li Su walk out last.
Cang Lin, having received the message on his optical computer earlier, walked over immediately.
“Let’s see the legendary Space-Attribute crystal.”
Li Su opened his palm. Two crystals stained with black blood flashed with iridescent light in his palm.
Seeing this, the corner of Cang Lin’s mouth hooked up in a smile.
“I wonder how many contribution points this thing will be listed for if the refinement is successful.”
Qi Ye’s voice was extremely cold, interrupting their conversation:
“Where is Chi Wan?”
This sentence reminded everyone that Chi Wan was not in the middle of the team.
Li Su didn’t care at all. He crushed the crystal of the Space-Attribute pollution entity in his palm; the crystal shattered and then condensed again, restoring itself.
The moment it shattered, a large number of light armored vehicles appeared on the ground.
He intended to get in the vehicle, but the door was firmly held down by Qi Ye.
The look he gave him was freezing cold.
“I asked you, where is Chi Wan?”
In the chaos, he had seen her stumbling and following the A3 Base crowd away.
Li Su’s gray-brown eyes looked directly into Qi Ye’s cold green ones. His deep voice was flat and waveless:
“The duty of protecting her shouldn’t belong to my A3 Base.”
In this Guide allocation, she was assigned to C3 Base.
Qi Ye’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Interstellar Law dictates that Sentinels possess a natural duty to protect Guides. Not to mention she followed you and assisted you all the way.”
“Assisted?”
Li Su sneered. Withdrawing his hand from the car door, he turned sideways to look at his unconscious subordinate being helped into the light armored vehicle on the other side. His tone grew even colder:
“If it weren’t for her back thenâif it had been another Guide helpingâmy subordinate wouldn’t have been injured.”
The other Sentinels didn’t dare get involved in the Commanders’ affairs. They all played deaf and dumb, packing their gear and entering the armored vehicles.
Cang Lin, arms crossed, leaned against the vehicle and watched the two with interest.
Qi Ye didn’t believe Li Su’s words at all.
Although they had only spent about three days together, he was absolutely certain that Chi Wan was no longer the previous Chi Wan.
The current her, though occasionally foolish and dazed, was definitely not someone who would stand idly by and leave someone to die.
Seeing Qi Ye visibly care, Li Su couldn’t help but mock:
“I didn’t do anything to her. She hasn’t come out for so long; presumably, she didn’t want to travel with us and called her father to complain again.”
The next second, his collar was seized by Qi Ye.
His tone was ruthless, something Li Su had never heard from him:
“She was just poisoned, and her body hasn’t recovered. Lead the way. I’m going to find her.”
Hearing this, Li Su put away the mockery in his eyes.
His eyes darkened slightly, the scrutiny within seemingly confirming the truth of these words.
He shook off Qi Ye’s hand and looked at Cang Lin, who had put away his spectator expression and suddenly become serious.
The latter also seemed to think of something and nodded seriously.
“Indeed. Poison Scorpion Weed toxin. Comatose for two days. Logically… she really hasn’t recovered yet.”
Normally, a Guide poisoned by Poison Scorpion Weed would need treatment for five or six days.
Not to mention she had just broken the hallucinogenic fog, consuming so much Mental Power.
At this moment, Chi Wan’s overly pale face flashed through Li Su’s mind.
He had only thought she was afraid of him at the time.
Without saying another word, he walked quickly toward Building 06.
The Sentinels who had boarded the vehicles were confused seeing all their Commanders entering the building again.
They could only wait on the spot.
…
Underground Level 12.
[Host, wake up!]
[The pollution entities underground are crawling this way. Wake up quickly and leave this place!]
The System’s voice in Chi Wan’s mind was anxious and urgent.
She tried to open her heavy eyelids but didn’t have a shred of strength.
[Host, wake up quickly! This is the last mission concerning whether I can become a full-time employee. You can’t die at a time like this…]
[If you die now, never mind failing the mission; my score will be negative. I might get expelled from System status entirely!]
Chi Wan struggled to open her eyes. Downstairs, the sound of crawling pollution entities was getting closer.
Using all her strength, she reached out and grabbed a rusty piece of iron. Propping up her weak body to sit up, she tried to stand but had absolutely no strength.
Hrrr… hrrr…
The pollution entities emitted sounds from their throats as thick as old phlegm. These entities, whose legs had been chopped off by the Sentinels, were stretching their skeleton-like gray-green arms, crawling up the stairs.
Without exception, their pitch-black pupils stared dead at Chi Wan.
Chi Wan grabbed the handrail forcefully, trying to stand up again.
Failed again.
Amidst the System’s constant encouragement, tears swirled in her eyes from anxiety.
Suddenly, an extremely desperate sense of discouragement floated in her heart. Leaning against the handrail, clutching the rusty iron piece with both hands, she looked at the approaching pollution entities.
“System, I’m too disappointing. I’m sorry… making you unable to become a full-time employee…”
Her choked words caused the System to fall into a brief silence.
After the brief silence, it comforted her:
[Don’t blame yourself, Host. Worst case scenario, I won’t be a system anymore. I have the lowest ability and love to slack off anyway; not getting full-time status is what I deserve. But right now, I really hope you survive.]
As a System, it was difficult to develop feelings for a Host.
But in just a few days, it had truly come to see Chi Wan as a friend.
The System’s words gave Chi Wan strength at this moment.
Although her hand holding the iron piece was weak, there was no cowardice of retreat in her grip.
