Chapter 146: This Doctor Isn’t Very Good
Gu Huaiye stood up with a whoosh.
“No! Are you crazy! He’s not sick, how can we send him to that kind of place?”
The doctor, seemingly used to such situations, appeared extremely calm and indifferent in the face of Gu Huaiye’s anger.
“If you truly feel he isn’t sick, why bring him to see me?”
“I…” Gu Huaiye was rendered speechless.
After a long while, he finally answered the doctor, “I brought him to see you hoping you could cure him, not to casually suggest I send him to a psychiatric hospital. Could that possibly be a good place? Sending Miaomiao there would be sending him to his death.”
The doctor sighed helplessly.
“Please do not hold prejudice against psychiatric hospitals; their existence is to cure people with mental illnesses. I can recommend a better hospital where the staff are very professional and can take good care of Mr. Xie.”
“No! The answer is no.” Gu Huaiye’s tone was resolute. “Miaomiao is sick, but not to that extent.”
“But he has already started hurting himself. Can you watch over him every single moment?”
The doctor sat forward, placing both arms on the table. The gaze behind his glasses was sharp and ruthless, his words aggressive.
“Can you appear on time every single time he hurts himself? What if next time it’s more severe? How will you remedy it then?”
“Anyway, I can take care of him!”
The doctor shook his head. “Young Master Gu, a person’s energy is limited; there are areas you won’t be able to cover. Mr. Xie’s condition is already very serious. He feels that the present is a dream and needs pain to force himself to wake up. Right now it’s cutting his arm, but what if next time he chooses suicide?”
The image of Xie Miaohan hurting himself that day flashed through Gu Huaiye’s mind, making his chest feel tight and painful.
He lowered his head in silence. The doctor didn’t rush him, simply waiting quietly for his decision.
As if he had made up his mind, Gu Huaiye picked up his jacket from the chair.
“Sorry to trouble you today. I’ll have someone transfer the fee to you.”
The doctor hadn’t expected Gu Huaiye to remain so obstinate and stood up as well.
“Young Master Gu, you’d best consider it for a few more days. Don’t make a decision so quickly. You think your way is protecting him, but in reality, it’s harming him too.”
Gu Huaiye paused in his tracks. A moment later, he walked quickly out of the office.
As soon as he stepped out the door, he saw Xie Miaohan standing right there.
“You…” Gu Huaiye was startled, his speech a bit incoherent. “You came up… so fast?”
He wasn’t sure if Xie Miaohan had heard his conversation with the doctor.
He hoped the door’s soundproofing was decent.
“There wasn’t a milk tea shop downstairs, so I came up.” Xie Miaohan paused, then asked, “Are you done chatting?”
Gu Huaiye nodded guiltily, then took Xie Miaohan’s hand.
“You must be tired from talking to the doctor for so long today. Let’s go home. How about hot pot?”
But Xie Miaohan asked, “What did the doctor say to you?”
Hearing this question, Gu Huaiye’s tense nerves relaxed a little.
It seemed he had just returned.
“This doctor isn’t very good. Let’s find another one.”
Xie Miaohan opened his mouth, but in the end said nothing, simply nodding at Gu Huaiye.
“Okay.”
That evening, Father Gu called Gu Huaiye.
Gu Huaiye had been cuddling with Xie Miaohan watching TV. Seeing the caller ID, he immediately stood up from the sofa and went to the balcony before daring to answer.
“Is that boyfriend of yours going into a psychiatric hospital?”
Gu Huaiye cursed inwardly, saying angrily, “If I had known, I wouldn’t have gone there. Why is he so gossipy, revealing patient information? So unprofessional.”
Father Gu corrected him disapprovingly. “That doctor is the top in District A. Your boyfriend wasn’t willing to talk much, yet he could pinpoint the problem immediately. You were able to get an appointment so quickly thanks to my old classmate’s help.”
“It’s not that he revealed it on purpose. I was worried about your situation, so I went directly to his office to ask.”
“Dad, he’s fine. You don’t need to worry too much.” Gu Huaiye pinched the bridge of his nose, his tone weary. “It’s late; you should rest. If you have anything to say, let’s talk tomorrow.”
“I’m not worried about him; I’m worried about you,” Father Gu said. “He needs to go to a mental hospital, which means he could go crazy and hurt you at any time. No, either you send him in, or you come home or live at school.”
Gu Huaiye answered without thinking, “He wouldn’t hurt me.”
“But…”
Gu Huaiye interrupted Father Gu. “I know you’re worried about me. I’m an adult; I know what to do. I really like him, and I can’t send him to that kind of place. I know the people inside are professional, but Miaomiao can’t leave me. If I sent him in, he really would go crazy.”
Gu Huaiye couldn’t bear losing Xie Miaohan again.
Father Gu fell silent. After a long while, his tone softened a bit.
“Bring him to the Gu house,” Father Gu said. “You two come back and live together. I’ll hire more people to watch him.”
Gu Huaiye wanted to say something else, but Father Gu seemed to anticipate it and continued, “This is as far as I’ll compromise. I don’t care about him, but you are my son, and I cannot tolerate someone who could have an episode at any moment staying by your side. I won’t break you two up. Whenever he gets better, you can get married.”
Gu Huaiye hesitated for a while. “I understand. We’ll go back in a few days.”
After hanging up, Gu Huaiye returned to the living room.
Xie Miaohan was watching TV. Hearing the sound of the balcony door sliding open, he looked up and smiled at him.
“Was that your father calling?”
Gu Huaiye nodded, lying without batting an eye. “He just missed me, wanted me to go back and keep the old man company.”
Xie Miaohan pursed his lips and smiled faintly. “You can go back and stay more often. You don’t need to stay here with me all the time. I’m fine now; I won’t hurt myself again.”
“Do you want to go back with me?”
Xie Miaohan froze, asking cautiously, “Is that really okay?”
“What’s not okay about it? Let’s go back and stay for a while. My dad said it himself, asked me to bring you back.”
Xie Miaohan was somewhat surprised, and the smile on his face deepened.
“Okay, I’ll go back with you.”
Gu Huaiye took Xie Miaohan to see another doctor, but the result was much the same.
They suggested sending Xie Miaohan to a professional facility for treatment.
Furthermore, this doctor presented a new perspective, stating that due to psychological barriers, Xie Miaohan might have lost his sense of pain.
Simply put, Xie Miaohan could hurt himself again at any moment.
After leaving the office, Gu Huaiye’s face remained grim.
He did remember that when Xie Miaohan cut himself, he kept muttering, “Why doesn’t it hurt?”
No! These doctors must have misjudged.
On the way back to the Gu family villa, Xie Miaohan kept staring at Gu Huaiye’s profile.
“Huaiye, am I causing you trouble?”
Gu Huaiye snapped out of his thoughts and smiled. “No, Miaomiao, don’t think like that.”
Xie Miaohan gave an “Mn,” and the two fell into silence.
After a while, Gu Huaiye asked tentatively, “Miaomiao, do you want to take a break for a while?”
“A break?”
“Yeah, don’t go to school for now. Just stay at the villa.”
Gu Huaiye thought, he didn’t have to send Xie Miaohan to that kind of place, but he could keep him in the villa and hire professionals to take care of him.
That way, if Xie Miaohan engaged in self-harm again, someone would discover it in time, preventing a major disaster.
“What about you? Will you be at the villa?” Xie Miaohan asked anxiously.
“I will. I’ll come back to see you every night.”
Gu Huaiye still had to play matchmaker for Chen Zirui, so going to school was a must.
“If I stay at the villa, does that mean I don’t have to see these psychiatrists anymore?”
Gu Huaiye was stunned and quickly asked, “Did they make you feel uncomfortable?”
Xie Miaohan clenched his fists, lowering his eyes to stare at his knees.
“I’m afraid you’ll listen to them…” Xie Miaohan choked up, “And send me away.”
Gu Huaiye’s pupils constricted.
Xie Miaohan knew everything!
