Chapter 22: Fought Over by Thousands
If the soothing continued like this, his Binding Heat would erupt again.
Chi Wan was baffled by his question.
The doorbell rang at that moment.
The mechanical door opened. Li Su, his combat uniform stained with blood and dust, his handsome face solemn as always, walked in.
His black eyes swept seemingly unintentionally over Chi Wan in the ward.
“Shi Ye and the others are back. We need to depart immediately.”
“Okay.”
As Qi Ye spoke, he saw Chi Wan eagerly jumping off the bed.
Instantly reading what she intended to do, his Mental Entity manifested. The snake tail gently curled around her waist, putting her back on the bed.
“You can’t go.”
“I…”
“Rest well and recover.”
He left in a hurry; this operation was obviously very important.
Li Su’s gaze swept hurriedly over Chi Wan. He was about to step forward but paused in the end.
He looked at her again.
They were seven or eight meters apart.
The girl’s bewildered look was cute and innocent, completely unlike someone capable of the vicious things she had done before.
The word “sorry” stuck in Li Su’s throat. Remembering the sacrificed Sentinel, he finally said nothing, turned around, and strode away.
The noise downstairs grew louder.
Chi Wan walked to the window balcony and realized that many Sentinels had gathered on the driveway.
They looked serious and ready to go.
Not only that, but there were also many unfamiliar faces and small spaceships hurrying around.
“After the Lost City was conquered, the Federation sent a lot of people from the Resources Department and auxiliary Sentinels to excavate usable resources there.”
A medic walked over carrying a healthy nutritional meal. While placing the meal on the table, he explained to Chi Wan:
“I heard funds are tight and weapons are scarce. The Federation is auctioning off parts of the mining areas in the Lost City. There’s a mysterious buyer bidding extremely high, someone whose name we’ve never heard before.”
“Mysterious buyer?”
“Yes. Not the Chi family, the commercial giant you belong to, nor the Su family, the second largest commercial family in the galaxy. Not even those small merchants. It’s a surname never heard of before.
Pronounced ‘Chi’ like yours, but written with the water radical.”
“Chi (Pool)?”
“Yes. And we only know the surname. Their identity and background are completely unknown, very mysterious.”
As the medic spoke, the optical computer on his wrist beeped with an urgent prompt.
“Guide Chi Wan, remember to eat. There are too many affairs at the base right now, so I have to get busy. If you need anything, call me on your optical computer immediately!”
Chi Wan nodded repeatedly, and the medic ran off disappearing instantly.
She picked up her chopsticks and shoveled two mouthfuls of rice into her mouth when several hurried, unsteady footsteps approached.
Chi Wan turned around to see seven or eight Sentinels supporting two other Sentinels, running anxiously toward her.
“Where’s the medic? Are there any spare pheromones? We’re willing to buy them for double contribution points!”
Seeing no medic in the room, only Chi Wan—who usually looked down on them and wouldn’t deign to give them a straight look—the Sentinels looked disappointed.
“What do we do? We can’t get a number at the Guide Soothing Center anymore. Liang Ming and the others…”
The other Sentinels were also sweating profusely and looking anxious.
The two Sentinels being supported had their heads lowered, chests heaving violently, veins on their arms bulging. They were clearly on the verge of fatal mania.
“Let’s go. Check other medical rooms.”
The lead Sentinel gritted his teeth and said.
“Wait.”
The girl’s melodious voice was exceptionally clear.
The Sentinels stopped. A kitten-shaped Mental Entity leaped from above their heads.
Accompanying it was a powerful Mental Power soothing.
Unlike any other Guide’s Mental Power, this force was like a sea capable of embracing all rivers, yet not fierce or violent at all. It gently wrapped around their Mental Power, giving their long-stimulated and damaged minds the fastest soothing.
This feeling was shocking and mesmerizing.
The two Sentinels on the verge of collapse recovered quickly.
Their gaze toward Chi Wan gradually cleared, even carrying varying degrees of dependence.
“Are Guides scarce in the base right now? Perhaps I can help.”
Seeing their Mental Power recovered well, she volunteered.
The Sentinels looked at each other, almost thinking they had heard wrong.
…
A few minutes later.
Chi Wan followed them to the Soothing Building where Sentinels queued for Guide soothing.
Interstellar bases all set up Soothing Buildings, with several Guides stationed in each.
Sentinels needing soothing would take a number and wait in line to be called.
As a temporary X-K Alliance with extremely high combat intensity, the Soothing Building was often overcrowded.
Even though the Soothing Building had been expanded to three structures, there were still many Sentinels who couldn’t get a number.
[Tsk tsk tsk. It’s said that the Sentinel-to-Guide ratio in this galaxy reaches a terrifying 100,000:1. Truly scary.]
With the System’s background commentary, Chi Wan saw many Sentinels coming and going.
They were tall, and most of their expressions hid violence due to insufficient mental soothing.
Seeing Chi Wan, their gazes were like wolves and tigers.
Desire in their eyes intertwined with other complex emotions.
No one dared to step forward and disrespect her.
Everyone knew her name—Chi Wan.
The highest-ranking SSS-rank Guide in the base, the pearl in the palm of the Chi family, the galaxy’s premier commercial dynasty.
Being watched by these burning gazes, it would be a lie to say she wasn’t nervous.
But Chi Wan maintained a calm expression.
Until she walked into the waiting hall of the Soothing Building.
Inside the huge waiting hall, tens of thousands of Sentinels looked toward the petite Guide walking in.
Unlike the Sentinels outside just now, the mania levels of the Sentinels waiting here were almost all on the verge of collapse.
Many Sentinels’ Mental Entities had even appeared uncontrollably, manifesting physically.
And Chi Wan’s appearance was like a fatal attractant.
In an instant, the Mental Entities of all the Sentinels in the waiting hall approached Chi Wan’s side as if starving and thirsty.
Chi Wan was completely frightened by the spectacle before her and couldn’t help but take two steps back.
The Sentinels who led the way immediately stepped forward to stop them.
“Hey, everyone, sober up! This is Guide Chi Wan.”
If they offended her, as low-level Sentinels, none of them would live.
With their warning, most Sentinels restrained themselves a lot, but a very small number of Sentinels whose consciousness was on the verge of dissipating had lost the ability to think.
Their Mental Entities practically threw themselves over.
A hound Mental Entity lunged, blocking the two leading avian Mental Entities.
“Whoever dares to offend Guide Chi Wan, I’ll be the first to tear him apart!”
A familiar voice.
Chi Wan looked at the back of the dark-skinned Sentinel blocking her way and recognized him immediately as Qi Ye’s subordinate.
“It’s you.”
“It’s me, Guide Chi Wan. My mania level was too high, so I couldn’t follow the Commander to the battlefield this time. Leave quickly; this place is too dangerous for you.”
Just as the dark-skinned Sentinel finished speaking, a kitten-shaped Mental Entity leaped up from Chi Wan’s head.
At the same time, her powerful Mental Power poured out.
“I’m not leaving. I came for group soothing.”
Her shy, gentle smile seemed covered in a soft light at this moment, breathtakingly beautiful.
The dark-skinned Sentinel stared blankly.
The next instant, the kitten jumped onto the body of his hound and then nimbly jumped toward the Mental Entities of other Sentinels.
With just a light tread, his whole body trembled in comfort.
Not just him—the Sentinels in the entire waiting hall went crazy!
All Sentinels released their Mental Entities. Various raptors and birds crowded the originally spacious waiting hall. Amidst the chaos, all Mental Entities were chasing that miniature kitten.
Shaking their heads and tails, begging for a single touch. Even a single step from a cat’s paw or a brush of the cat’s body was enough to give them immense satisfaction.
A powerful SSS-rank Guide could completely perform cross-rank group soothing to satisfy them, which was more effective than one-on-one soothing from ordinary Guides.
Chi Wan was somewhat overwhelmed by their excessive “enthusiasm.”
Before she had a Mental Entity, her method of soothing Sentinels was simply to mobilize her Mental Power and use her Mental Landscape to soothe them.
Now that she had a Mental Entity, her Mental Landscape was partially materialized into the Mental Entity.
But no matter how high her Mental Power level was, there was a limit.
Her Mental Landscape had been weak after the blood donation last time and couldn’t withstand Cang Lin’s forced soothing.
Now, the “looting” by these near-crazy Sentinels was consuming her Mental Entity rapidly.
Even more terrifyingly, Chi Wan discovered that those Sentinels she had clearly already soothed were still pestering her Mental Entity relentlessly, insatiable.
The kitten began to flee among a pile of raptors, long having lost its initial agility and liveliness.
With a flying leap, just as it was pinned down by a black bear again, a piercing tiger roar shook all the raptors into stopping their scramble, retreating in fear.
Sobered by the powerful pressure, all the Sentinels looked toward the door.
Shen Yu, known for his good temper, held a long sword, his expression slightly cold.
He looked at the kitten Mental Entity, its fur messy and looking pitiful after being “ravaged” by the crowd of Sentinels. His voice was no longer cheerful; the aura of a superior flowed naturally:
“Who allowed you to bully a Guide like this?”
The roomful of Sentinels instantly became as obedient as could be.
More than half of the Mental Entities in the hall vanished at once.
Clearly, these were the Sentinels who had successfully recovered to a healthy state during Chi Wan’s brief group soothing. The unlucky few who hadn’t squeezed in to catch the group soothing were still hanging in the air.
Seeing the kitten limping back, its pitiful appearance was somewhat clumsily cute.
Shen Yu couldn’t help but wonder when a Guide with a kitten Mental Entity had appeared in the base.
His gaze followed the kitten.
The kitten disappeared after running behind several tall Sentinels. In the corner, pressing tightly against the wall, stood a girl whose face was still somewhat pale despite her forced calm.
Who else could it be but Chi Wan?
