Chapter 149: I Cannot Send Him In

Gu Huaiye didn’t have time to wait for Lu Zishi; he hailed a taxi and went straight to the hospital.

On the way, he called the servant monitoring Xie Miaohan.

“What exactly happened? Why did he harm himself again out of nowhere? Did you say something that triggered him? He was still sleeping when I went out. I’ve only been gone for two hours; how did it turn into this?”

“Ten minutes after you left, Mr. Xie woke up and went to the bathroom. He stayed inside for an hour. I felt something was wrong, so I went to knock.”

To protect Xie Miaohan’s privacy, there were no cameras installed inside the bathroom.

This situation had been discussed with Gu Huaiye beforehand: if Xie Miaohan stayed in the bathroom for too long, they were allowed to knock.

“Mr. Xie didn’t respond. We were worried something happened to him, so we barged in. At that time, Mr. Xie was cutting his hand with a shard.”

Gu Huaiye gripped the phone tight, gritting his teeth. “Why were there shards in the room? Didn’t I tell you to put away anything that could hurt him?”

When he woke up and found the person beside him gone, anxiety and despair almost swallowed him whole.

Xie Miaohan couldn’t distinguish whether what happened last night was reality or not.

When they walked out of the hospital, Lu Zishi’s car had arrived and was parked at the entrance.

Seeing Xie Miaohan’s condition, a flash of shock passed through Lu Zishi’s eyes, but he immediately composed himself and opened the door for them.

After getting in the car, Xie Miaohan still refused to let go of Gu Huaiye’s hand, holding it so tightly his knuckles turned white.

“Look.” Gu Huaiye pointed out the window with his other hand. “This is just a regular hospital. I didn’t plan to send you to that kind of place.”

Xie Miaohan glanced out the window, then quickly withdrew his gaze, fixing his eyes on Gu Huaiye’s face.

“I’m sorry.” Gu Huaiye stroked Xie Miaohan’s hair. “I should have woken you up before leaving. Did waking up suddenly and not finding me make you very scared?”

It took Xie Miaohan a long while to answer, “I thought last night was fake.”

Gu Huaiye froze, guilt flowing in his eyes.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t do well enough to make it feel real for you.”

Maybe he didn’t love enough.

Making Xie Miaohan think that this version of him wasn’t real.

The effect of the sedative hadn’t worn off yet. Smelling the familiar scent on Gu Huaiye gave Xie Miaohan a sliver of security, and unable to hold on, he leaned on Gu Huaiye’s shoulder and fell asleep.
