You Claimed You Didn’t Love Me, So Why Cry Now That I’m Engaged? Chapter 149

Chapter 149: I Cannot Send Him In

Gu Huaiye didn’t have time to wait for Lu Zishi; he hailed a taxi and went straight to the hospital.

On the way, he called the servant monitoring Xie Miaohan.

“What exactly happened? Why did he harm himself again out of nowhere? Did you say something that triggered him? He was still sleeping when I went out. I’ve only been gone for two hours; how did it turn into this?”

“Ten minutes after you left, Mr. Xie woke up and went to the bathroom. He stayed inside for an hour. I felt something was wrong, so I went to knock.”

To protect Xie Miaohan’s privacy, there were no cameras installed inside the bathroom.

This situation had been discussed with Gu Huaiye beforehand: if Xie Miaohan stayed in the bathroom for too long, they were allowed to knock.

“Mr. Xie didn’t respond. We were worried something happened to him, so we barged in. At that time, Mr. Xie was cutting his hand with a shard.”

Gu Huaiye gripped the phone tight, gritting his teeth. “Why were there shards in the room? Didn’t I tell you to put away anything that could hurt him?”

“It was the mirror!” The servant hurriedly explained. “Mr. Xie smashed the mirror in the bathroom.”

Hearing this, the veins on Gu Huaiye’s temple throbbed violently.

He had actually overlooked that.

“Have you arrived at the hospital?” Gu Huaiye suppressed his anger and asked, “How is he now?”

“Mr. Xie wasn’t very cooperative with us, so we gave him a sedative. We are almost at the hospital.”

“Who told you to give him that!”

Gu Huaiye’s voice suddenly rose, and the driver in front couldn’t help but glance at the rearview mirror.

“I’m sorry, we really had no choice. Mr. Xie is an SSS-level Alpha; we couldn’t control him at all. And he was gripping the shard very tightly; his palm was full of blood.”

Hearing this, Gu Huaiye felt as if countless needles were piercing his heart. The pain made his body tremble uncontrollably.

He hung up the phone, covered his face with his palm, and cried silently.

It happened to be rush hour, and the traffic was terrible, making Gu Huaiye even more anxious.

By the time Gu Huaiye reached the ward the servant mentioned, Xie Miaohan was awake. He sat on the hospital bed, both arms wrapped in gauze, hugging his knees tightly.

“Miao—”

Just as Gu Huaiye made a sound, Xie Miaohan noticed him. He quickly got off the bed, rushed straight to him, and pulled him into his arms.

“Huaiye…”

Xie Miaohan’s voice was broken. He held Gu Huaiye very tightly, terrified the person in his arms would vanish.

“I won’t do it again… Don’t leave me in the mental hospital… I’m not sick… I’ll get better…”

He hadn’t wanted to hurt himself either.

When he woke up and found the person beside him gone, anxiety and despair almost swallowed him whole.

Xie Miaohan couldn’t distinguish whether what happened last night was reality or not.

Especially when he went into the bathroom and saw the haggard person in the mirror, he became even more panicked and disgusted.

That wasn’t him.

How could he be this ugly?

Huaiye already disliked his pheromones. If even his face and body weren’t good-looking, how could he dare to beg for the other’s love?

Maybe he hadn’t woken up yet.

As long as he woke up, he could see Gu Huaiye, and he could discard this body.

“I woke up… Huaiye… I’m sure this isn’t a dream…” Xie Miaohan cried, begging helplessly, “Take me home, okay? …I promise I won’t cause you trouble again…”

Gu Huaiye comforted him with an aching heart. “This isn’t a mental hospital. You’re injured; we’re just letting the doctor treat your wounds. Once you’re okay, I’ll take you home.”

Xie Miaohan shook his head frantically. “I want to go back now. I don’t want to stay here.”

“Okay, we’ll leave now.”

Gu Huaiye signaled the servant to handle the discharge procedures.

When they walked out of the hospital, Lu Zishi’s car had arrived and was parked at the entrance.

Seeing Xie Miaohan’s condition, a flash of shock passed through Lu Zishi’s eyes, but he immediately composed himself and opened the door for them.

After getting in the car, Xie Miaohan still refused to let go of Gu Huaiye’s hand, holding it so tightly his knuckles turned white.

“Look.” Gu Huaiye pointed out the window with his other hand. “This is just a regular hospital. I didn’t plan to send you to that kind of place.”

Xie Miaohan glanced out the window, then quickly withdrew his gaze, fixing his eyes on Gu Huaiye’s face.

“I’m sorry.” Gu Huaiye stroked Xie Miaohan’s hair. “I should have woken you up before leaving. Did waking up suddenly and not finding me make you very scared?”

It took Xie Miaohan a long while to answer, “I thought last night was fake.”

Gu Huaiye froze, guilt flowing in his eyes.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t do well enough to make it feel real for you.”

Maybe he didn’t love enough.

Making Xie Miaohan think that this version of him wasn’t real.

The effect of the sedative hadn’t worn off yet. Smelling the familiar scent on Gu Huaiye gave Xie Miaohan a sliver of security, and unable to hold on, he leaned on Gu Huaiye’s shoulder and fell asleep.

Xie Miaohan was taller than Gu Huaiye. Gu Huaiye was afraid he wasn’t sleeping comfortably and wanted to pull his hand out to adjust his posture.

But as soon as he moved, Xie Miaohan would grip tighter, his brow furrowing.

Gu Huaiye didn’t want to wake him, so he had to give up.

The chaotic morning had also alarmed Father Gu.

After Gu Huaiye sent Xie Miaohan upstairs and soothed him to sleep, Father Gu called him to the study for a talk.

“You went to his room last night?”

Gu Huaiye remained silent.

Father Gu sighed. “See, this is why you must sleep in separate beds. Look, you went for one night, and the next day he harmed himself.”

To be honest, Father Gu even felt lucky that Gu Huaiye had gone out.

What if he had hurt his son?

Father Gu had witnessed the scene of five or six servants restraining Xie Miaohan that morning with his own eyes.

An SSS-level Alpha was terrifyingly strong. The pheromones released were full of oppression; even Father Gu, an Alpha, was affected.

Why did he have to like someone so strong?

Father Gu had given up hope on having grandchildren, but he didn’t want Gu Huaiye to get hurt.

“I know I did wrong yesterday,” Gu Huaiye said. “I’ll be more careful next time. I won’t just casually go in and casually leave again.”

Father Gu sighed. “Even if you’re unwilling to send him to a psychiatric hospital, you must at least take him to see a psychologist and use medication to intervene.”

“Those doctors make Miaomiao uncomfortable. I don’t want to take him there anymore.”

“Absurd.” Father Gu scolded, “Like this, when do you expect him to get better? He should get treatment when he needs it. Locking him up like this isn’t a solution. If it really doesn’t work, send him away.”

“No!” Gu Huaiye shook his head firmly. “I cannot send him in.”

“Then take him to see a doctor and take medicine for me.”
