Chapter 22: Baby, Did You Miss Me?
Once the location was set, the time was easy to decide. Considering the others all had work, the time was set for Saturday night, allowing them to party all night long without worrying about delaying work the next day.
Wen Yuhuai was too lazy to notify them one by one, so he simply sent a location pin in the group chat, accompanied by a message.
[Saturday night at seven, be there or be square.]
After sending it, he exited the chat interface. He thought that since the others were busy, they wouldn’t see the message for a while. However, the notification sound rang the second he exited.
Song Xingmian: [Received, received! Don’t worry, Brother, I will definitely arrive on time~]
Gu Yanxiu: [Ah Yu, see you then.]
Fu Xingjian: [See you.]
Lin Shiyu: [Is there alcohol?]
Wen Yuhuai clicked his tongue and replied: [Yes.]
Lin Shiyu was satisfied and sent another reply: [Fine. Saturday night, we won’t go home until we’re drunk.]
Wen Yuhuai exited the chat interface, calculating that he definitely couldn’t get drunk this time. He was the host; what if he got drunk and started acting crazy?
Two days in advance, Wen Yuhuai stole two bottles of good wine from his old father’s wine cabinet. At five-thirty on Saturday afternoon, he carried the wine to the reserved private room in the hotel.
He hadn’t been sitting in the private room for long before someone arrived. The first to come was Song Xingmian, which was within Wen Yuhuai’s expectations; after all, they were the only two idle people right now.
Around six-thirty, Gu Yanxiu and Fu Xingjian arrived one after another. Only Lin Shiyu hadn’t arrived yet.
Wen Yuhuai clicked his tongue, found Lin Shiyu’s chat box, and poked him several times in succession.
No one replied.
This was strange. In the past, whenever he sent a message, this person would reply instantly. What was going on today?
Wen Yuhuai asked the three of them to sit and drink tea first, while he went out of the private room to call him. The call didn’t go through; it rang three times and then automatically hung up.
Could something have happened?
Wen Yuhuai instantly felt a sense of alarm. He couldn’t have gotten into a car accident on the way here, right?
Forget it, let’s wait until seven. If he hasn’t arrived by seven, we’ll talk then.
Not long after he sat down, Lin Shiyu’s call came in. Wen Yuhuai breathed a sigh of relief. Too lazy to go out of the private room, he answered the phone in front of the others, speaking sarcastically, “Is Eldest Young Master Lin finally done being busy?”
Lin Shiyu apologized good-naturedly, saying he was delayed by something and would arrive very soon.
Only then did Wen Yuhuai barely forgive him, saying, “You’re the only one left. There are ten minutes left until seven. If you’re late, punish yourself with three cups.”
The other side agreed. Wen Yuhuai hung up the phone and looked at the three men. “He’ll be here any minute.”
Soon, Wen Yuhuai knew why he had been delayed. When Lin Shiyu entered the private room, he was actually holding a large bouquet of lush, dripping red roses, and his other hand held a beautifully wrapped box that looked like a gift.
The moment the other three saw that bouquet of roses, their expressions unconsciously turned gloomy, and they nearly ground their teeth to dust.
Lin Shiyu, however, didn’t care what the three were thinking. With a composed expression, he handed the roses to him. “What are you dazing out for? Take it.”
Wen Yuhuai didn’t take it. Instead, he had a look that was hard to describe. “Did you just come back from a date with your girlfriend?”
Lin Shiyu’s expression stiffened for a split second, and he subconsciously said, “How is that possible?”
Wen Yuhuai poked at the bouquet of flowers in front of him and asked, “Then what’s this about? Isn’t it that you gave it to a girlfriend, she didn’t want it, so you brought it to me?”
Lin Shiyu finally understood what he had misunderstood. Somewhat helplessly, he said, “This was bought specially for you. What goes on in your brain all day?”
Wen Yuhuai’s expression became even more indescribable as he asked three questions in a row: “You said these roses were bought specially for me? Do I need to repeat our relationship again? Have you ever seen good brothers giving each other red roses for no reason?”
Lin Shiyu had clearly thought of a countermeasure long ago and said without changing his expression, “I originally wanted to buy tulips, but the flower shop ran out. Only red roses were left.”
Wen Yuhuai: “Did you absolutely have to buy flowers?”
Lin Shiyu looked innocent. “Today is to celebrate your discharge from the hospital. How can we do that without fresh flowers?”
In the end, Wen Yuhuai frowned and accepted the bouquet of red roses along with the gift. He turned and placed them on the side table with the other gifts. “Alright, everyone is here. Let’s eat.”
The dishes were served quickly, and the wine that had been breathing for two hours was also brought up by the waiter. As the host, Wen Yuhuai stood up and filled everyone’s glass.
Lin Shiyu was one minute late; he didn’t try to welsh on the bet and very decisively punished himself with three cups.
The group exchanged glances, their gazes touching and separating instantly, and began to take turns toasting Wen Yuhuai.
Wen Yuhuai wanted to refuse, but they were too enthusiastic. In the end, he drank quite a bit, though fortunately, his consciousness was still relatively clear.
“Brother, I’m flying back abroad soon. I don’t know when we’ll meet next. I’ll toast you another cup.”
Song Xingmian picked up his wine glass and stood up. His cheeks were flushed, and he looked at him with blurry eyes; obviously, he had drunk quite a lot too.
Wen Yuhuai had no excuse to refuse, so he picked up his glass and drank.
Seeing that the others were also looking at him, looking as if they wouldn’t rest until he was drunk, he finally couldn’t sit still. He stood up unsteadily. “You guys sit first; I’m going to the washroom.”
A large hand steadied him firmly. A man’s slightly hoarse, deep voice rang in his ear. “I’ll accompany you.”
Wen Yuhuai waved his hand, pushed away his arm, and walked out unsteadily. “No need, I’ll be back in a bit.”
The four sat in the private room watching him stumble out the door. Only when he disappeared from sight did Gu Yanxiu stand up unhurriedly. “I’m going to the washroom too. Excuse me.”
Lin Shiyu didn’t hesitate much and followed as well.
“Wait, I’m going too.” Song Xingmian’s eyes no longer held a trace of drunkenness. He wiped his mouth with a napkin and casually followed Lin Shiyu’s footsteps.
In the blink of an eye, only Fu Xingjian remained in the private room. He looked at the direction of the door expressionlessly, and finally stepped out of the private room as well.
On the other side, Wen Yuhuai relieved himself, came out, and washed his face. Feeling much more awake, he patted his obviously flushed cheeks in the mirror and walked outside.
Just before he turned the corner, he suddenly heard a crisp click by his ear. The overhead lights went out without warning.
Someone had flipped the switch.
Wen Yuhuai’s night blindness flared up. Everything in his vision instantly blurred into a patch of darkness. His eyes fixed dead on the patch of light in the hallway outside as he stumbled toward the exit.
He had just taken two steps when someone suddenly grabbed his arm from behind and yanked him back. Before Wen Yuhuai could react to what was happening, he was pressed against the wall. Immediately after, a voice so familiar it made his scalp tingle rang in his ear.
“Baby, did you miss me?”
