Sentinel & Guide: From Pariah to Heartthrob Chapter 29

Chapter 29: Dampness

What a huge surprise.

Disappointment couldn’t be hidden in Shen Yu’s eyes.

He had been deceived by her performance today. He had forgotten she was Chi Wan, the Chi Wan who was atrocious to the extreme and trampled on others’ dignity at will.

The goodwill the young man had gathered with difficulty vanished instantly.

He stopped looking at the two of them, turned around, and strode away.

In the swaying halo of the searchlight, Shen Yu’s tall, lean back disappeared from view in a few breaths.

Chi Wan swallowed, her gaze turning back to Shi Ye in front of her.

“I… didn’t I apologize… that one whip lash helped you get revenge. I won’t use that leather whip to hit you again…”

Her voice got lower and lower, until it was almost as thin as a mosquito’s buzz.

Looking at her appearance, full of kindness and guilt.

Shi Ye suddenly thought of many people.

He thought of that woman who had always been mean, smiling at him when he was seven:

“Xiao Ye, Auntie changed her mind. I plan to send your sister to school, but your useless uncle can’t make any money. So, Auntie found you a job. As long as you work hard, you won’t have to worry about your sister’s tuition.”

In the underground boxing arena, the boss, who made a fortune, walked toward him with eyes full of sympathy and benevolence as he lay dying from the beating.

Bending down, he took out an expensive silk handkerchief to wipe the blood from Shi Ye’s face, looking kind:

“Shi Ye, you’ve suffered these past few years. Seeing you like this, I really can’t bear it. Finish this fight, and I’ll return your freedom. I’ll also tell them to release your sister.

How about it?”

On the day he fought his way out of the underground boxing arena holding his sister’s corpse, his former “friend” who had repeatedly framed him frantically blocked his way, face covered in blood:

“Shi Ye, I was wrong. I know a very good base that welcomes strong people like you who awakened as Sentinels early. I’ll take you there!”

Later on, he stopped believing.

He didn’t believe in the sudden kindness of hypocrites, nor the sudden self-blame of abusers.

Because those were definitely for profit.

So what was this woman in front of him after?

Excitement, trampling, or his young body?

Shi Ye suddenly felt annoyed, disgusted by this.

At the moment the belt was about to slip from Chi Wan’s hand, he grabbed it tightly. The bent belt revealed extreme toughness.

The irritability value on the optical computer jumped to 91%.

His face seemed even colder and heavier.

The hand gripping the belt lifted slightly, pressing against Chi Wan’s tender chin.

He exerted force, lifting her face.

Looking at the increasingly crimson eyes in front of her, Chi Wan wanted to retreat in fear.

But she couldn’t move an inch.

His control ability held her body firmly in place.

Like an invisible shackle, it rooted her to the spot.

Her heart raced wildly, her pupils trembling with fear.

She couldn’t say a word. She could only rely on the searchlight at his waist to vaguely see his expression, an expression as fierce and vicious as a wolf.

Such a look couldn’t be formed without years of cruel slaughter.

With the height difference, his half-lowered eyelids watched her. His hand, covered in scars and veins, exerted slight force, carving a red mark on her chin with the belt.

He still didn’t show much expression, but his cold tone carried immense pressure:

“Is this… fun?”

Chi Wan knew what he was asking.

Under extreme fear, tears uncontrollably filled her eyes, and she shook her head helplessly.

Crying at the slightest scare—just like those unscrupulous nobles who lived in high positions, nourished by power and privilege, losing their humanity and conscience.

Just like… those gluttonous ne’er-do-wells who clapped and cheered in excitement seeing the slaughter in the boxing arena.

Shi Ye suddenly felt the belt was a few degrees dirtier for having touched her skin.

He retracted the belt, tore off the corner that had touched her skin with his bare hands, and then slowly tied it back around his waist.

Freed from the control ability, Chi Wan could finally move. She backed away two steps in fear.

Then she heard the man’s calm words:

“You don’t think your previous whip lashes could really hit me, do you?”

His ability was Control.

That long whip couldn’t touch his skin at all.

Chi Wan didn’t care whether it hit him or not.

She was scared, and aggrieved.

But she couldn’t learn how to vindicate herself, nor could she learn to deliberately curry favor.

Words spoken were words spoken. If he didn’t believe, she would speak more clearly.

“Maybe I wasn’t clear enough last time. I’ll say it seriously again.”

Although her voice still trembled at the end because the fear hadn’t receded, her feigned calmness and soft voice still made Shi Ye look up at her again.

In the dim tunnel, she stood alone in the dark light, maintaining a distance of about two meters from him.

Her red-rimmed eyes made her look haggard and helpless.

This glance reminded Shi Ye of Shi Tian, the sister he had tried to protect with all his might but failed due to his lack of ability in his youth.

The dampness buried deep in his heart.

But instantly, he blamed himself. To think of Shi Tian because of Chi Wan was simply an insult to his sister.

“Speak.”

His voice revealed a hidden irritability he couldn’t hide.

The irritability value on the optical computer leaped to 92%.

The increasingly stuffy air in the narrow passage made him gradually lose patience.

“I won’t use those things on you in the future. Today, you handed me that kind of thing yourself. If…”

Chi Wan gathered her courage, her lowered eyes no longer looking at him, and laid down a harsh ultimatum:

“If you can’t behave yourself, don’t come to me for soothing in the future.”
