Chapter 6: The Giants Strike!
“The Demon Lord… the Demon Lord…” the Bishop struggled to explain to Lance, “The king of all monsters, he…”
Lance: “Did what?”
Bishop: “…”
The Bishop couldn’t answer.
To be honest, in recent years, the monsters have been quite peaceful. Humans and monsters maintained an almost perfect yet distant relationship.
They didn’t interfere with each other and rarely interacted. Monster-inhabited areas were mostly poor and desolate places, unsuitable for human survival in terms of weather and environment. Humans had no reason to compete with monsters for those meager scraps of land.
Monsters never bothered humans. As for the mysterious Demon Lord… no human had ever seen his true form. He seemed to have never left the Demon Lord’s castle, so much so that for a moment, the Bishop couldn’t think of any evil deeds the Demon Lord had done that warranted his extermination.
But his deeply ingrained religious beliefs told him that dark monsters could not coexist with light; all darkness was evil, and if it was evil, it must be ended by light.
So the Bishop resolutely spoke again: “They are all creations of darkness—”
Lance: “What evil have they done?”
Bishop: “They are the enemies of God—”
Lance: “What evil have they done?”
Bishop: “They… they are a desecration of the light…”
Lance: “What evil have they done?”
Bishop: “…”
The Bishop also fell into thought.
Right.
What evil had they actually done?
Arlo secretly pulled Misa’s arm, pulling him aside, nervously whispering in Misa’s ear.
“What’s going on?” Arlo was shocked. “It’s been three years, haven’t you done anything?”
“I don’t know,” Misa was also shocked. “They didn’t teach this in Demon Lord training!”
Arlo painfully scratched his head: “Didn’t they teach you to do bad things to humans?”
“Teacher Alisa said that the Church attributes all the disasters in the world to demons,” Misa nervously scratched his head. “I… I’m not very good at doing bad things.”
Arlo: “…”
Misa mumbled softly: “I haven’t done anything bad either.”
Arlo: “…”
Misa truly hadn’t considered such a situation.
Fortunately, Arlo spoke in time, interrupting the hero’s doubts. He put on his most practiced smile and earnestly explained to the hero.
“The Demon Lord has done many evil deeds; there are far too many to count,” Arlo said. “It’s truly difficult for the Bishop to explain them all to you at once.”
Lance looked at Misa.
Misa nodded without a trace of guilt: “Yes, yes, the Demon Lord is the biggest villain in this world!”
Lance: “…Alright.”
He still seemed unconvinced. Arlo had to continue: “This information needs time to be organized, Lance-sama. Believe me, you’ll understand the evil of monsters tomorrow.”
Lance: “…”
He remained silent, but Misa instantly understood Arlo’s meaning.
So that’s it! That’s how it is!
As long as Arlo could buy him some time, he could find the monsters and have them commit some misdeeds in Sky City tonight.
Collected data was no match for seeing is believing. He firmly believed that after tonight, the hero would become like other heroes.
Firmly believing that monsters are evil and becoming their sworn enemy, without hesitation when facing monsters.
That’s what a qualified hero should do!
With Arlo’s assistance in stalling, after nightfall, Misa secretly slipped out of the church and headed towards the volcano near Sky City.
For his and Arlo’s plan to deceive the hero, he had made thorough preparations, specifically having two giants hide in the nearby volcano. Now was the time to put them to work.
Misa spread his wings and flew quickly towards the volcano, quickly finding the two giants.
He landed in front of the giants and issued the Demon Lord’s orders, asking them to go to Sky City at noon tomorrow and cause some mischief.
The giant, Kali, sat down on a hill in front of Misa, causing the ground to shake. To prevent the Demon Lord from having to look up too much, he then used his giant stone-like fist to support his head. His booming voice made Misa’s ears ache slightly: “Little people have little thorns, little people will use little thorns to poke Kali.”
Misa: “…”
The female giant, Saya, also frowned in confusion: “Little people are so small, Saya will step on them.”
Kali corrected her: “Little people are so small, Saya won’t step on little people.”
Saya: “But…”
Kali: “Saya will directly crush the little person.”
Saya looked terrified, as if she couldn’t believe Kali’s words. She was even more afraid of imagining herself doing such a thing. She shook her head vigorously, almost without thinking, refusing Misa’s order: “Saya doesn’t want to flatten little people.”
Misa: “Uh… just be careful.”
Kali scratched his head, quite puzzled: “Can’t the little person’s hero just come and beat Kali?”
Misa: “He thinks you haven’t done anything bad, he doesn’t want to attack you…”
Saya widened her eyes in disbelief.
“Such a hero,” Saya couldn’t believe the Demon Lord’s words. “Saya likes it a little.”
Misa spent the whole night discussing a perfect plan with the giants.
The giants didn’t want to kill anyone, nor did they want to cause too much damage to Sky City. They could only choose a gentle method—the commotion had to be big, but the damage minimal.
So at noon the next day, two terrifyingly ferocious giants appeared outside Sky City.
They bent down and squeezed through the city gate, trying to avoid the fleeing little people in the streets. They went all the way to the church, and under the attack of Sky City knights wielding small spears—
They smashed the church’s stained-glass windows.
They let out earth-shattering roars, knocking down an unlucky bird that landed in the giant’s messy hair.
The Sky City knights stood rooted to the spot, and the giants took advantage of the opportunity to run, bursting out of Sky City’s gates, quickly disappearing outside the city at a speed that human horses couldn’t match.
The people were greatly frightened, and the lord immediately organized the city guards to carry out post-disaster rescue efforts. It was at this time that the Bishop found the lord and told him that the hero chosen by God was in the church.
The lord felt as if he had seen hope.
He immediately rushed to the church, requesting to meet the hero chosen by God, hoping that the hero would stand up for their pitiful city, which had been attacked by monsters, to track down and defeat the two hateful giants.
But Lance still didn’t move.
He frowned, looking at the shattered glass of the church, then hesitantly turned his head to look at the street where the giants had come from.
He had seen clearly just now—the giants had crouched down and carefully squeezed through the city gate, doing their best to avoid everyone fleeing in the streets. This was not an easy task for the giants; they could have just charged in directly.
These giants seemed afraid of damaging the human city gate and didn’t want to hurt human lives. They only came to smash the church’s windows. Besides that, they didn’t seem to have caused any damage to Sky City.
Their actions were no different from mischievous neighborhood children, the only difference being that their window smashing was too spectacular, frightening many people.
The lord clasped Lance’s hand tightly, filled with indignation, gnashing his teeth and condemning the evil of the monsters.
“These hateful creatures of darkness,” the lord loudly scolded. “Have brought unforeseeable losses to Sky City!”
Lance: “…”
“Respected hero, please, for the sake of Sky City, bring back the heads of the giants,” the lord earnestly said. “I will provide you with all the help you need. Any equipment you want—”
Lance silently raised his hand, interrupting the lord’s impassioned speech.
“I have a question,” Lance said slowly. “Can we estimate the extent of the damage the giants have caused to Sky City?”
Lord: “…”
The lord clearly didn’t understand Lance’s intentions.
But true to his word, he called for his steward to quickly assess the damage caused by the giants within the city.
Meanwhile, he and the Bishop stood on either side of Lance, doing their best to persuade the hero to set off as soon as possible, before the giants escaped too far. Perhaps tonight he could return with the giants’ heads.
But the hero apparently had other questions.
Lance hesitantly asked: “You… are you so sure I can defeat the giants?”
Lord: “…”
Bishop: “…”
Lance lowered his head again, looking at his hands: “Don’t you need to test my strength?”
Misa: “…”
Arlo: “…”
Is this something you can say to outsiders?!
Misa gasped, almost wanting to rush forward to cover Lance’s mouth, but he was a step too late, and the hero had already said it.
The lord and the Bishop looked at the hero incredulously, as if they didn’t understand the hero’s motivation. After a long while, the Bishop hesitantly ventured, “You are the hero chosen by the goddess…”
The lord immediately followed up, saying: “We believe in you as we believe in the goddess.”
Lance: “…”
Misa saw Lance’s silence and feared he would utter more shocking words. He hurriedly tried to interrupt their conversation, but almost simultaneously, Lance had already spoken again in doubt.
Lance: “…But isn’t this superstition?”
Misa: “…”
i love lance w all my heart. hes SO funny
