Chapter 36: Seeing Zhan Ye…
The Golden Eagle nestled in Su Tang’s arms. Hearing Su Tang mention its master’s name, and thinking of the “good deeds” its master had done, the whole bird stiffened, daring not look up at Su Tang at all.
“Did your master kill someone and bury the body in my room? Using such heavy perfume to cover the smell… Oh my god, I really can’t stand it.”
Su Tang opened the window, letting fresh air draft in from outside.
“Good child, can you go to your master’s side? I just came back from outside and want to rest well. Come find me later, okay?”
The Golden Eagle chirped weakly twice, counting as agreement, then actively climbed down from Su Tang’s arms and nestled on the single sofa to the side. Seeing it didn’t plan to leave, Su Tang didn’t think much of it. After gently patting the Golden Eagle’s head, she opened the bedroom door.
Watching Su Tang open the bedroom door, the Golden Eagle turned its body bit by bit, facing the back of the sofa.
Mmh, I really tried hard. Master, you bear the consequences of your own sins.
Su Tang pushed open the door and was stunned by the scene before her eyes.
Her room looked as if it had been ransacked by bandits. The mess was especially evident on her bed. The clothes in the wardrobe had all been pulled out and stuffed onto the bed. The entire duvet was pressed on top, yet bits of fabric still peeked out. The curtains were drawn tightly by someone, letting no light through. The whole room was imbued with an indescribable atmosphere.
“Zhan Ye? Are you there?”
Su Tang walked to the bedside. The corner of the quilt wriggled gently, and then golden hair was revealed through the gap.
“What are you doing? How did it get like this?”
The man slowly pulled the quilt down, revealing his true face. Before Su Tang could get angry and question him, she was silenced by Zhan Ye’s current expression.
Zhan Ye’s face flushed with an abnormal redness. His forehead was covered in beads of sweat, wetting the beautiful red hair sticking to his forehead. Fragmented dim light filtered through the dark curtains, adding an ambiguous filter to the man in the room.
“What’s wrong? Has your heat period not passed yet?”
Seeming to hear her voice, the man on the bed slowly opened his eyes. Those peach blossom eyes, usually carrying a hint of a smile, were now covered with a layer of misty water vapor, looking exceptionally pitiable.
“Little Beauty…”
His voice was terribly hoarse, carrying a heavy nasal tone.
“You’re finally back…”
Su Tang was so shocked by his appearance that she couldn’t speak—or rather, she didn’t know how to speak to him.
She had never seen Zhan Ye like this. His usual ruffian appearance was gone, replaced by a fragile look that seemed open to being bullied by anyone.
“You… how did you get yourself into this state?”
Zhan Ye pulled the soft cotton quilt down further. The messy clothes dragged by the movement were revealed before Su Tang.
Su Tang pursed her lips and lifted the corner of the quilt, seeing the scenery the man had stuffed under it.
“Why did you pile my clothes onto the bed?”
It wasn’t that she disliked it. Her original annoyance dissipated by more than half upon seeing Zhan Ye’s face. Right now, she wanted to hear Zhan Ye’s reason for doing this more.
“Sorry, I didn’t want to either, but I really couldn’t control myself. These… these have your heavy scent on them. I missed you so much. I couldn’t control myself; I really feel so terrible… Little Beauty, you’re finally back.”
The man’s words carried deep grievances. Su Tang pursed her lips, quietly looking away from Zhan Ye’s face.
Don’t blame her for being useless and getting entranced; who could resist a golden retriever puppy looking at you eagerly from the bed with wet eyes, speaking of his longing for you?
Su Tang was a worldly person; she couldn’t resist.
“Has your heat period still not passed?”
Counting the two days she was out on the mission, this should be the third day of Zhan Ye’s heat. Generally, a Sentinel’s heat period could be passed peacefully in about two days with the help of suppressants. Why was Zhan Ye so special this time?
Seeing Su Tang not speaking to him for a long time, Zhan Ye thought his actions had angered her. From the messy nest, he extended a hand, gently grasping the corner of Su Tang’s clothes and shaking it slightly.
“Sorry, I really didn’t mean to. I just felt they smelled too good. I’ve already asked someone to buy a new batch of clothes for you to put in the wardrobe. If… if you’re not satisfied, when I’m a bit better, I’ll take you to buy them personally, okay?”
Sigh.
Looking at the man’s flushed face and obviously uncomfortable appearance, how could Su Tang say anything harsh?
“I’m not angry with you. But you really are a bit unusual this time. Have you seen Anse?”
The Golden Retriever puppy shook his head.
“My heat period this time was caused by an incomplete mark. I knew you didn’t want others to know, so I’ve been here the past few days and haven’t gone out.”
The man’s words carried a fawning tone, just like a little milk dog who thought he had done something to please his master, acting spoiled and asking for credit after the master returned.
Su Tang pursed her lips. So, during the two days she was away, this person had been holding back the discomfort of the heat period, curled up here?
Truly silly.
“Where are your suppressants?”
Su Tang looked helplessly at Zhan Ye.
Seeing the man lower his head with a guilty expression, daring not look her in the eye, Su Tang frowned.
“Did you simply not inject suppressants?”
Su Tang was getting a bit anxious. She grabbed the wrist of the man tugging at her clothes with one hand. The scorching heat from his palm alarmed her. How could his body temperature be high to such an absurd degree?
“Are you crazy? Your temperature is already this high. If you don’t inject suppressants, you’ll collapse.”
“I… I didn’t want to either. It’s just that I don’t know why suppressants seem to have no use on me. After injecting a shot, my reaction became even stronger.”
As the man spoke, he suddenly let out a muffled groan of discomfort.
“Little Beauty…” Zhan Ye gently tugged Su Tang’s hand, making her sit by the bed. His forehead pressed against the back of the woman’s hand, rubbing gently like a canine acting spoiled.
“I missed you so much… The mark under my Adam’s apple hurts so much…”
The heat of the man pressing against the back of her hand was so scorching. Su Tang couldn’t stop sighing in her heart. Since suppressants didn’t work and he was suffering to this degree, yet he still stubbornly refused to go to Anse just because he was afraid she would be unhappy if she knew?
An indescribable emotion suddenly surged in her heart. Su Tang sighed silently.
“Good boy.”
Her wrist turned gently, her palm pressing against the man’s cheek. She gently brushed aside the hair sticking to his forehead, carefully stroking the man’s face.
