Chapter 12: The Cat Raised Together
Hearing he could raise a cat, Chi Jing was so happy he tossed and turned all night, not sleeping well. He woke up before nine the next day, feeling physically drained.
Wu Cheng held a document and told them, “We’re going to take the team photo this afternoon. Little Chi, your uniform has arrived. After the photo, someone booked a personal interview with you. Try on the clothes later to see if they fit.”
Chi Jing petrified. Personal interview? He was a bit socially anxious.
“Can I skip the personal interview?”
Wu Cheng looked up at him, his tone light: “If you don’t want to go to the personal interview, that’s fine too.”
Before Chi Jing had time to be happy, Wu Cheng added, “You get twenty thousand for one interview session. Really not going?”
Twenty thousand wasn’t a lot, but Chi Jing was, after all, a pauper right now. He cleared his throat and pretended to be reluctant: “For the team’s benefit, I’d better go.”
Wu Cheng laughingly scolded him for being money-obsessed, then started arranging their schedule for later.
“Today, after Chi Jing comes back from the interview, we’ll eat, take a walk, and start training at 8:30. We have a scrim scheduled with RG today, playing for about two hours. Then the Shooter and Support will split up. Little Song, Little Chi, and Qi Fengāyou three tri-queue. Shooter and Top will solo queue. You guys practice coordination in tri-queue.”
Wu Cheng drank some water and continued, “Little Chi is very strong, but your previous playstyle isn’t suitable for the tournament stage. Your playstyle is too aggressiveāit was obvious from your solo with Chen. If this were a few years ago, you’d definitely be a traffic-driving player, but now that the KPL is commercialized, it needs a stable front. That playstyle is no longer suitable for the arena.”
Seeing some confusion in Chi Jing’s eyes, Wu Cheng added, “Your task is to be able to shoulder FM’s Mid Lane. Create an advantage without letting the Mid Lane collapse. FM’s core is the Mid Lane; as long as Mid doesn’t collapse, it’s not hard to play.”
Chi Jing understood now. “I understand, thank you, Brother Cheng.”
Wu Cheng nodded with satisfaction. “It’s still early, you guys can sleep a bit longer. We leave at 2 PM.”
Qi Feng knew without thinking that Chi Jing couldn’t sleep. The dark circles under his eyes were heavy. Better to take him now; if they came back early, he could sleep a bit more.
His low, husky voice sounded in Chi Jing’s ear.
“Go change your clothes. Let’s go buy the cat now.”
The dark circles couldn’t hide Chi Jing’s sparkling eyes. Nodding like pounding garlic, his legs moved so fast they almost sparked. Qi Feng shook his head helplessly with a smile and went upstairs to wash up.
The most worrying part arrived: he stared at the clothes in the closet, lost in thought. What to wear?
After thinking it over, he picked a dark brown trench coat paired with a black turtleneck sweater and gray casual suit pants. Looking left and right, he still felt something was missing.
He ran to the drawer and compared necklaces one by one, finally choosing a thick silver chain necklace. He sprayed perfume on his wrists, messed up his hair a bit, looked at his handsome self in the mirror with a dashing smile, grabbed the car keys, and prepared to go downstairs. Just as he left his room, he saw Chi Jing who had also just come out.
The other was wearing a beige round-neck sweater, a white coat paired with gray-white wide-leg jeans. His platinum hair complemented his skin. He wore a fluffy scarf of the same color scheme, looking cool yet well-behaved.
Both were stunned when they saw each other. Then they went downstairs together. Changing shoes at the entryway, Chi Jing picked a pair of white skate shoes. Qi Feng retracted the hand reaching for his Dr. Martens and matched him with a pair of black and white skate shoes.
Hearing the commotion, the teammates poked their heads out to peek at them.
“Where are those two going?” Yuan Jibai asked.
Song Qi boldly guessed, “Going on a date?”
Wu Cheng said quietly, “Seems like they’re going to buy a cat?”
The group looked at each other in silence. Song Qi asked again, “Buying a cat or getting a marriage certificate?”
Mo Jingchun chuckled lightly, speaking sarcastically, “Flower peacock. One white, one blackāif you didn’t know, you’d think Black and White Impermanence were out. Did you see his hair? Usually, he never cares at the base, so why style it just to go buy a cat? The watch on his wrist is the same brand as Chi Jing’s. Tsk tsk tsk, scheming man.”
The more Yuan Jibai listened, the more wrong it felt. Suddenly, he seemed to realize something. With a horrified look in his eyes, pointing in the direction they left, he suddenly spoke:
“Date? They’re both men?!”
Song Qi sighed tsk tsk, patted Yuan Jibai’s shoulder, and slowly said in an educating tone, “Are you a relic of the Qing Dynasty? Don’t have this discrimination in modern society. After all, they’re quite a match, aren’t they? Look how handsome Brother Feng is! For a face-judging man like me, as long as they’re good-looking, a guy isn’t impossible either.”
The last sentence seemed to point at something. His gaze drifted uncertainly, finally landing on Mo Jingchun, whose back was slightly stiff on the sofa.
Yuan Jibai slapped Song Qi’s paw away, screaming in horror, “Could it be that Mo Jingchun and I are the only straight men in the base? Nooo!”
Mo Jingchun sat on the sofa and coolly struck a blow: “I might not be straight either.”
It ended with Yuan Jibai panicking and stumbling back to his room.
Sitting in Qi Feng’s low-key luxurious Cayenne GTS, Chi Jing felt the world was one giant provocation to the poor. He numbly smelled the scent of capitalism in the car and buckled his seatbelt.
Qi Feng was puzzled seeing him like this. He was happy leaving just a moment ago, why was he wilted now?
“What’s wrong? Carsick? If you’re carsick, I’ll go ride the motorcycle.”
Chi Jing closed his eyes tight and slowly spat out a few words: “I hate the rich.”
Qi Feng was amused by this sudden sentence. He asked cheaply, “If you hate the rich, do you still want the kitty?”
Chi Jing finally stopped playing dead, opened his eyes abruptly, and replied, “Yes!”
Qi Feng started the car and drove toward the pet shop contacted yesterday. On the way, Chi Jing’s head was groggy. Taking advantage of a red light, Qi Feng reclined the seat back to let him sleep more comfortably, and pulled a blanket from the back seat to cover him. The car Bluetooth played soothing songs as they drove slowly down the road.
Chi Jing slept lightly. As soon as the car turned off, he opened his eyes, rubbing them as he asked, “Are we there?”
Qi Feng lowered the window on his side a bit. A sliver of cold wind poured into the warm car. Chi Jing’s head cleared. Just as he prepared to open the door, he was stopped by Qi Feng.
“The temperature difference inside and outside is too big. It’s too cold out. I’ll lower the window a bit first so you can adapt before going out.”
When Chi Jing felt neither cold nor hot, he opened the door and walked toward the pet shop in front.
Qi Feng locked the car and quickly followed. As soon as they entered the shop, the owner recognized Qi Feng and brought out the weaned cats suitable for adoption. A pile of fluffy kittens lay curled up comfortably asleep in the nest. Chi Jing locked onto a chubby American Shorthair at a glance. Gently picking it up, he found its markings were particularly good. Holding the kitten, he turned his head to look at Qi Feng, confusing Qi Feng with his cuteness.
He stepped forward to negotiate with the pet shop owner, finally settling on a price of 4200. Just as he took out his phone to pay, he was stopped by Chi Jing.
“Let me pay.”
Qi Feng raised an eyebrow slightly. “We’re raising the cat together. I’ll buy it, you are responsible for the food later. Okay?”
Chi Jing thought for a moment and didn’t fuss, agreeing directly. This cat had already been vaccinated and checked for diseases. Chi Jing and Qi Feng raided the store, buying a pile of things to take back. Finally, settling on this cat, his name was Zhizhi.
