The Binding of Pheromones Chapter 15

Chapter 15: Spilled Water Cannot Be Gathered, Deep Love Does Not Last

Crash—

A loud noise exploded in the quiet room. Glass shards flew, and crimson wine splashed out, looking like a blooming blood-colored flower under the pale lights.

“Trash! A bunch of trash!” The man’s furious voice echoed in the room. He ripped the gold-rimmed glasses off his nose and smashed them ruthlessly onto the desk. The lenses shattered instantly, but he seemed not to feel the pain.

The medical doctor standing opposite him, a thin figure, trembled slightly. Wine stains dripped down his white coat, shocking to the eye like tainted blood.

He didn’t dare breathe loudly, only watching helplessly as the fragments of the expensive red wine glass shattered at his feet.

“I spent so much money, and this is what you show me?” The man slammed the document in his hand onto the table with a loud bang, making the doctor flinch. He pointed at the data in the file, roaring with uncontrollable rage, “Look! This is your research result?!”

The man seemed to feel this wasn’t enough to vent the anger in his heart. He grabbed the file from the table and flung it ruthlessly into the doctor’s face. The stinging pain of paper slicing across his cheek made the doctor suck in a breath of cold air. “A bunch of useless rice buckets! What is the use of me feeding you? You can’t even control a merman!”

“Sir, please calm down…” The doctor spoke tremblingly, trying to explain, but was rudely interrupted by the man.

“Calm down? How do you expect me to calm down?!” The man kicked over the chair beside him, making a deafening noise. “I spent a fortune, fed you well, and provided you with the most advanced equipment. In the end, this is what you show me?”

He pointed at the data in the file, gritting his teeth. “The experimental subject escaped. You actually tell me the experimental subject escaped?!”

The eyes behind the lenses seemed to burn with two clusters of ghostly blue flames, his tone cold as ice. “Are you telling me that merman grew wings and flew away?!”

Nurse Lily’s face was pale, her heart beating wildly.

She had witnessed Mr. K’s rage too many times, and each time it made her shudder.

She lowered her head and answered with a trembling voice, “Mr. K… we aren’t sure either… The signal from the tracker on Sailuo… suddenly disappeared… in the sea area dozens of miles away…”

“Sea area?…” Mr. K’s slender fingers tapped gently on the desktop, tap after tap, as if beating on Lily’s heart, making her almost unable to breathe.

His tall figure cast a shadow, his tone revealing a hint of dangerous amusement. “That merman and the human who came yesterday vanished instantly? Heh~ Interesting…”

Mr. K walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the entire city, the corner of his mouth curving into a cold arc.

“Interesting, truly too interesting…” Mr. K chuckled lightly, but his tone carried a chilling coldness.

“Whether human or ghost, find that person for me as soon as possible.” He turned sharply, his sharp gaze sweeping over the trembling crowd. “I don’t believe anyone can take a merman away from under my nose!”

Meanwhile, the sunset by the sea dyed the water surface golden red. The sea breeze blew gently, carrying a salty, wet scent.

Gu Yunsheng carefully removed the metal device from Sailuo’s neck. Blood stains still remained on it, silently recounting the pain Sailuo had suffered.

“Done.” He let out a long sigh and casually threw the metal device into the sea, watching it flash with cold light under the sunset before finally disappearing into the rolling waves.

“This thing… should be what they used to control you.” Gu Yunsheng turned to look at Sailuo, only to find the other looking at him with an indescribable expression.

In that gaze, there was fear, gratitude, and a trace of… infatuation?

Gu Yunsheng was startled by his own thought. He shook his head, throwing this absurd notion to the back of his mind, and asked with feigned casualness, “How do you feel? Any discomfort?”

Sailuo didn’t answer his question. Instead, he slowly extended his hand. His pale, slender fingers gently touched Gu Yunsheng’s cheek. The touch was cold, but carried a strange tenderness.

“I… feel much more comfortable,” Sailuo’s voice was very soft.

Gu Yunsheng felt Sailuo’s fingers were icy, like a block of ice against his cheek, making him shiver involuntarily.

He snapped back to reality, terrified that the connection circuit of that thing could still track them. He directly tore it apart, then dug a deep pit on the beach with the scalpel, threw the thing in, and buried it with sand.

After ensuring there was no threat, Gu Yunsheng looked up at Sailuo. He originally thought Sailuo would feel discomfort from this sudden minor surgery.

At least he should shrink back from pain like ordinary creatures. But the Sailuo before him, apart from a paler face and wounds on his body, showed no abnormality. Those dark blue eyes were calm and waveless.

This guy, his recovery ability is so strong. Indeed, not an ordinary being. Luckily I saved him, otherwise who knows how he would be tortured.

“I must get him back to the sea quickly. At least with Ling Xi, the Deep Sea Merman King, there, he won’t be hurt again.” Gu Yunsheng steadied himself and decided to send Sailuo back to the sea first. As for other things, he would deal with them later.

After all, he was still just an ordinary human now. Keeping Sailuo with him was really too dangerous, not to mention the System worked only intermittently and might drop the ball at a critical moment.

Moreover, he really had no ability to protect him anymore.

It would be better to act alone; a smaller target made it easier to continue investigating the mastermind behind the hospital. Besides, it was time to properly meet that nurse named Lily.

“Sailuo, how do you feel? Are you really okay?” Gu Yunsheng looked at Sailuo and asked worriedly. “The wounds on your body look serious. The sea can heal you; go back quickly.”

Sailuo looked at Gu Yunsheng with a deep gaze. After a long while, he spoke slowly, “But…”

“No buts,” Gu Yunsheng interrupted him. “What you need now is to return to the sea. That is your true home.”

He paused, his tone carrying an unquestionable firmness. “Be obedient, go back quickly.”

Sailuo wanted to say something else, but in the end said nothing. He just gave Gu Yunsheng a deep look, then turned and slowly walked toward the sea.

“Rest assured, I will come find you again,” Sailuo’s voice came from afar, disappearing into the sound of the waves.

“I don’t want you to find me. You’d best forget me,” Gu Yunsheng muttered to himself as he watched Sailuo leap into the sea, his tone carrying a trace of imperceptible bitterness. “Even Ling Xi had best forget me. Heh, I never belonged here anyway.”

“System? Come out, let’s chat~” Gu Yunsheng shouted at the empty beach, looking a bit like a joyful, mentally challenged child.

The System gave him face this time, coming online almost immediately: “Host, what are your instructions?” The mechanical voice was as waveless as ever.

As if Gu Yunsheng wasn’t a miserable transmigrator pitted by it, but a VIP God-Daddy wherever he went.

“Instructions? Heh.” Gu Yunsheng sneered, plopped down on the sand, grabbed a handful of sand, and threw it into the sea.

“I actually want to ask you, how do you plan to arrange for me, your honorable Host, next? Hmm? Continue experiencing the joy of survival on a desert island? Or just package me up and send me to Ling Xi so he can steam me?”

System: “……”

“I don’t care. I can’t stay in this broken place for another day. Hurry up and get me some equipment. I’m going to destroy that black-hearted hospital! Also, think of a way to send me back to my original world!” Gu Yunsheng got more excited as he spoke, almost throwing the sand all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

“Host, please calm down!” The System’s voice rarely carried a bit of emotion, looking very much like an unlucky customer service agent facing an unreasonable customer. “Regarding the hospital, it is best if you do not intervene now. That is the darkest place in the entire maritime world, involving many complex forces. With your current ability, going there is seeking death.”

“I don’t care what forces they are. I am a man with a Gold Finger!” Gu Yunsheng patted his chest, almost knocking the wind out of himself. “You are an omnipotent System. Hurry and get me some powerful equipment. I want to let them know why flowers are so red!”

“Host…” The System’s voice grew weaker, like a parent on the verge of breakdown from a pestering child. “Your current behavior has seriously deviated from the main plot… If you continue, this System cannot help you, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to help you in the future. At that time, Ling Xi…”

“Don’t mention that scumbag fish to me again!” Gu Yunsheng stood up abruptly, his tone full of anger and disgust.

“You have the nerve to mention him? If not for you, would I have been deceived so miserably?” The System’s voice weakened: “Host, please calm down…”

“Calm down? How can I calm down?” Gu Yunsheng’s eyes turned red. “He sucked my vitality like a vampire and permanently marked me, making me his Omega. He can stop dreaming about that in this lifetime.”

Gu Yunsheng became more and more emotional, almost screaming at the System at the end. At the same time, he turned to face the vast sea, as if Ling Xi were right there where the sea met the sky.

He waved his arms vigorously, Ling Xi’s handsome but cold face floating in his mind. Anger and humiliation intertwined, making him wish he could drag Ling Xi out of the sea right now and tear off that blue fish skin with his own hands.

“System, shut up! Even if I rewrite the plot, even if I die here, it has nothing to do with you!” Gu Yunsheng wiped away his tears fiercely, his voice trembling. “Give me the equipment! Even if I risk my life, I want to protect the creatures of this sea!” Since he knew the darkness behind the hospital, how could he really stay out of it?

Sailuo’s case might just be the beginning… What if next time it was Ling Xi?

Thinking of this, his heart felt tightly gripped by an invisible hand, hurting so much he could barely breathe.

No feelings?

How is that possible! Even if Ling Xi was just a pet, he had already… fallen for him.
