Chapter 16: Ling Xi’s Split Personality
The System was silent for a few seconds, seemingly assessing the extent of Gu Yunsheng’s mental instability…
“Host, this is the final confirmation. I hope you can take responsibility for your choice.”
Gu Yunsheng sneered, tears still hanging from the corners of his eyes. In this moment, he made a huge decision. Since he came to this world, he couldn’t leave with regrets. Even if it meant completing a challenge he wouldn’t have dared to think of before: “Cut the crap, hurry up!”
The next second, a mobile phone, a seemingly ordinary ring, and a dagger gleaming with cold light appeared in his palm out of thin air.
Gu Yunsheng raised an eyebrow: “Just this? Are you dismissing a beggar? Can’t you give me some high-tech weapons? Laser guns or something, give me two?”
System: “……”
“This phone is the latest satellite phone, which can connect to the entire network of this world. The ring is a spatial ring containing some living supplies and simple medical supplies. As for the dagger…”
However, at the critical moment, the System went offline or ran out of power; no matter how Gu Yunsheng called, there was no response.
“Damn! Dropping the ball at the critical moment. This broken System is truly useless!” Gu Yunsheng stamped his foot in anger, but soon, his attention was attracted by a black speedboat on the sea not far away.
The speedboat was fast, kicking up white waves, heading purposefully toward the beach where he was.
Gu Yunsheng’s heart skipped a beat, and an ominous premonition welled up.
Not good, those people chased me here~
Sailuo, stay in the sea properly, don’t come out now.
Gu Yunsheng subconsciously tightened his grip on the dagger.
The speedboat stopped a few meters from the shore. Several burly men in black suits jumped off the boat and walked straight toward him.
“You are Gu Yunsheng?” The leader was tall and wore sunglasses. Even in the sunlight, his expression couldn’t be seen clearly, and he exuded a dangerous aura from head to toe.
Gu Yunsheng feigned calm, took a step back imperceptibly, and stared vigilantly at the comers: “Who are you? What do you want?”
The man sneered, his tone bone-chillingly cold: “Mr. K invites you.”
“Mr. K? Which Mr. K? I don’t seem to know any Mr. K, right?” He pretended to be confused, trying to stall for time.
“Stop playing dumb!” The man roared impatiently and suddenly lunged at Gu Yunsheng. “Is Mr. K’s name something you can say randomly? Come with us obediently to avoid suffering!”
In a flash, Gu Yunsheng instinctively dodged to the side, barely avoiding the man’s attack.
“Want to catch me? Not that easy!” He roared, turned, and ran.
“Chase him! Don’t let him get away!”
Angry roars from the men came from behind. Gu Yunsheng ran with all his might, his heart beating violently as if to jump out of his chest.
He didn’t know how long he stumbled and ran, nor did he know where he was. He only knew his legs felt filled with lead, every step feeling like it was scraping his marrow.
Those people behind him haunted him like ghosts, forcing him to run desperately without daring to look back.
In his blurred vision, he seemed to see a cave hidden behind a reef not far away… Could that be his only way out?
Gu Yunsheng didn’t have time to think too much, wanting to drill into that cave first…
—Scene Change—
Bang—
A priceless purple clay teapot was smashed ruthlessly onto the floor by Mr. K. Shards flew everywhere, as broken as his mood at this moment.
“Trash! A bunch of trash!”
Mr. K was furious, his extraordinarily handsome face covered in gloom.
The middle-aged man standing in front of him had cold sweat on his forehead and didn’t dare to breathe loudly.
“Sir, calm down…”
Mr. K slammed the table, making a loud noise. “Both the person and the experimental subject ran away. How do you expect me to calm down?”
Mr. K received news that the Omega named Gu Yunsheng, who could take away a giant merman in front of everyone, was definitely not a simple human.
For this, he would spare no cost to get his hands on him.
However, the subordinates he sent out actually let Gu Yunsheng escape again!
This was simply a humiliation to him!
“Three days. I give you only three days!” Mr. K pointed at the middle-aged man’s nose and said hatefully, “Within three days, I want to see him kneeling before me! Otherwise, bring your head to see me!”
“Yes! Yes! Sir!” The scarred man was scared out of his wits and fled the room scrambling.
Mr. K took a deep breath, trying to suppress the anger in his heart.
He walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the entire city, his eyes sharp as a falcon’s.
“Gu Yunsheng…” He murmured this name in a low voice, the corner of his mouth curving into a playful smile. “I am becoming more and more interested in you…”
He wanted to see just what kind of divine being this Omega who dared to escape from under his nose was!
Gu Yunsheng curled up deep in the cave. The cold sea breeze scraped across his soaked clothes like a knife, raising goosebumps. He couldn’t help shivering, his teeth starting to chatter uncontrollably.
“What is this hellhole…” He cursed in a low voice, but his mind involuntarily conjured up his warm, comfortable bachelor apartment.
The soft bed, the bathroom with 24-hour hot water, and the fridge full of “Happy Fatty Water” and snacks…
“What are you thinking, Gu Yunsheng! You can’t go back!” He slapped himself hard, trying to drive those unrealistic fantasies out of his mind.
But those images seemed magical, replaying in his mind over and over. He seemed to smell the familiar scent of laundry detergent and hear the slight hum of the air conditioner running…
“Thinking about it makes me angry!” Gu Yunsheng couldn’t help but swear and kicked a stone nearby fiercely.
Ever since accidentally transmigrating into the book, into an ABO novel he had only read a few chapters of, he became an Omega bounty hunter with a special identity who was constantly being hunted.
Omegas, in this world, were existences chased by everyone. They possessed a special attraction, but because of this, they were more easily dragged into dangerous whirlpools.
“I don’t want to be an object of contention! I want freedom!” Gu Yunsheng thought indignantly, his tone carrying a trace of grievance and fear he didn’t even notice himself.
He, Gu Yunsheng, was a Beta from childhood to adulthood in his original world. Although his personality was a bit flighty, overall he was a law-abiding good citizen.
But now, he actually turned into an Omega, an Omega who could be coveted and lose freedom at any time!
What made him collapse even more was that he was also dragged into an inexplicable pursuit.
“Mr. K… Ling Xi… Sailuo.” Gu Yunsheng muttered these names…
Mr. K might be the mastermind behind this hospital. Since he disappeared with Sailuo in front of everyone, naturally Mr. K would want to catch him and tear him to pieces.
And Ling Xi, that domineering and powerful Deep Sea Merman, why did he approach him, yet disappear when he needed him most?
“Ling Xi, you liar!” Gu Yunsheng held his head and roared painfully.
“Wait, now is not the time to complain. Gu Yunsheng, you must calm down!” He warned himself constantly, trying to sort out a clue from this mess.
He forced himself to calm down and began to analyze the current situation.
First, he must figure out where he was.
This cave looked very hidden and shouldn’t be easily discovered.
But this also meant he couldn’t contact the outside world for the time being and could only rely on himself.
Second, he needed to find food and water.
Long-term hunger and dehydration would make him lose mobility. Then he would really become fish on the chopping block, ready to be slaughtered.
Gu Yunsheng took a deep breath and slowly stood up supporting himself on the cold, damp rock wall.
His body ached all over from the long run and high mental tension, but he knew now was not the time to rest.
He looked around in the dim light and found that there seemed to be a narrow passage deep in the cave.
“Will there be any discoveries?” A glimmer of hope ignited in Gu Yunsheng’s heart, and he walked carefully toward the depths of the passage.
The passage deep in the cave was pitch black; he couldn’t see his fingers in front of him.
Gu Yunsheng fumbled forward, his heart full of unease.
Drip… drip…
The sound of water dripping was exceptionally clear in the quiet passage. Gu Yunsheng rejoiced; he knew that where there was water, there must be an exit.
He quickened his pace, walking in the direction of the dripping sound.
The end of the passage opened up suddenly, and a huge underground cavern appeared before Gu Yunsheng.
The ceiling of the cavern was covered with stalactites. Colorful lights danced on the water surface, beautiful as a dream.
However, what truly attracted Gu Yunsheng’s attention was a man with human legs, wrapped in a layer of feather gauze, standing quietly in the center of the cavern with his back to him.
Water vapor filled the cavern. The colorful lights reflected on the person, seemingly draping him in a dreamy veil.
Gu Yunsheng’s heartbeat accelerated abruptly, and an inexplicable familiarity welled up.
“Ling Xi?” He spoke tentatively, his voice trembling slightly from nervousness.
The person turned slowly. Silver long hair poured down like a waterfall, but his deep blue eyes seemed covered with a layer of frost—cold and strange.
Gu Yunsheng’s heart felt as if it were ruthlessly squeezed by an invisible hand, almost suffocating.
“Human? How dare you break into my territory?” Ling Xi’s voice was waveless, as if stating a fact unrelated to him.
He was bare-chested, revealing a lean chest and perfect V-line. His lower body had transformed into human legs, the muscular calves firm and powerful.
Looking at Gu Yunsheng actually stepping into his territory, looking at an intruder trespassing in a forbidden area, it seemed he would tear him apart the next moment.
“No… impossible…” Gu Yunsheng couldn’t accept the reality before him. He stumbled back, shaking his head in disbelief. “Ling Xi, how could you… not remember me?”
Ling Xi frowned slightly, a trace of impatience flashing in his eyes: “Human, how do you know my name? I don’t know you~~”
“You lied to me! You clearly…” Gu Yunsheng’s voice choked. Bits and pieces of their past kept floating in his mind: domineering possession, intense love, gentle whispers… Those memories were so clear, as if they had just happened yesterday.
