Chapter 25: Personal Assets
Wang Ming was idly wondering whether to talk to Ao Chen again when he noticed Ao Chen in a…somewhat pained posture.
It wasn’t overly dramatic, but he did look slightly distressed.
Wang Ming: “…”
“Are you alright?” Wang Ming kindly asked.
Ao Chen: “…”
Did I just…show something? Ao Chen wondered, shaking his head. “I’m fine. Why do you ask?”
“Because you look like…you were pricked by a needle…” Wang Ming pondered, using a rather literary expression to explain.
Ao Chen: “…”
“Nothing, thank you,” Ao Chen said.
He was surprised that he’d shown his pain, even more surprised that Wang Ming noticed it.
Ao Chen: “…”
“I’m fine,” Ao Chen repeated himself, bridging the awkward silence.
“Good,” Wang Ming nodded, figuring even if there was a problem, it wasn’t a big deal. He’s a spirit world big shot. A needle prick is just a needle prick, right?
Wang Ming: “…”
What am I even saying? Wang Ming thought, realizing he’d just repeated himself.
Because of this little interlude, time seemed to pass faster. Before long, they were at the front of the queue.
Wang Ming: “…”
Sometimes, what my family says about matchmaking isn’t entirely wrong, Wang Ming thought. Having a partner does make life easier.
But they have to be compatible, at least not a nitpicker! Wang Ming mused, surprised at his train of thought.
Wang Ming: “!”
Wang Ming suddenly had an idea.
If I go home this year, and Ao Chen pretends to be my partner, I can avoid the matchmaking pressure! Wang Ming had an epiphany.
Wang Ming looked at his fiancé with anticipation, thinking it wasn’t even deceiving his family; they are, after all, a perfect match.
Then he saw Ao Chen’s nearly two-meter height, towering over everyone.
Wang Ming: “…”
Though he’s beautiful and could easily pass as a woman, that height… Wang Ming fretted inwardly.
Or I’ll say I struck it rich, became a tycoon, and found a model girlfriend? Wang Ming started writing a fantasy story in his head.
If the neighbors ask, “Wang Ming, you’ve made so much money, why haven’t you improved your family’s living conditions?” what should I say?
That I spent all my money on the model? Wang Ming imagined and decided it would ruin his reputation.
Wang Ming: “…”
The tycoon identity won’t work, Wang Ming sadly thought.
“It’s our turn,” Ao Chen’s voice broke through Wang Ming’s daydreams.
Wang Ming: “???”
Wang Ming looked up; they had reached the front of the line.
Wang Ming: “…”
There’s such a thing as good luck? Wang Ming sighed, realizing that daydreaming was a great way to kill time.
I think I found a time-killing secret. This is pretty good, Wang Ming thought, pleased with his new life hack.
Meanwhile, Ao Chen: “…”
His daydreams are practically overflowing, Ao Chen thought.
“I need to tell you something,” Ao Chen said.
Wang Ming, daydreaming: “Huh?”
Wang Ming looked at Ao Chen, confused about the interruption.
“I can vaguely see your daydreams,” Ao Chen said.
Wang Ming: “…”
“It’s unintentional. Because of the red string, my perception of you is heightened, and we’re very close,” Ao Chen explained.
Wang Ming: “…”
Fine, so you can, Wang Ming thought. I wasn’t thinking anything inappropriate. The most embarrassing part is that it’s only embarrassing to me.
Wang Ming was thinking this when he suddenly seemed to remember something and looked at Ao Chen.
Ao Chen: “…”
“What’s wrong?” Ao Chen asked.
“As natural-born fiancés, can you sense my information?” Wang Ming asked.
“Honestly, I can,” Ao Chen decided to tell Wang Ming the truth so he wouldn’t worry.
Wang Ming: “…”
Ao Chen: “…”
This man looks so conflicted, Ao Chen thought.
Once again, they were at the front of the line.
Wang Ming seemed to be pondering something serious, so he didn’t notice when it was his turn to pay. Ao Chen ended up buying three large boxes of crayfish.
Wang Ming: “…”
“Sorry, I’ll transfer the money to you later,” Wang Ming said quickly.
“No need,” Ao Chen shook his head.
“Are…you still bothered by what we talked about earlier?” Ao Chen asked.
“Yes,” Wang Ming nodded frankly.
“I want to know, can you also get my debit card PIN?” Wang Ming asked directly.
Ao Chen: “…”
“If I want to, I can,” Ao Chen nodded.
Wang Ming: “…”
“If we divorce, and someone else marries you, can they share this information?” Wang Ming continued.
“That’s impossible,” Ao Chen shook his head.
“That information can’t be shared, and I won’t remarry,” Ao Chen said.
“Oh, that’s fine then. I trust you,” Wang Ming nodded. A domineering CEO wouldn’t need my measly money.
Ao Chen: “…”
Though grateful for Wang Ming’s trust, Ao Chen was puzzled.
“But I don’t understand, would a balance of two hundred really worry you so much?” Ao Chen asked.
